00:00My name is Tam Tin Yin.
00:07I'm 73 years old.
00:09I was a professional engineer working in the lift industry for the last 40 years.
00:14I retired about one year ago and I fully engaged in the activity in this handicapped and disabled
00:21children's home.
00:25I've been seeing all the handicapped people for the last 18 years at this home and I hope
00:31I can do something to help the handicapped because I noticed that about 1.8% of the Malaysian
00:38population are OKU.
00:40So I decided after my retirement, I will spend my time to invent some equipment so that I
00:47can help these people to improve their mobility so they can go to work, they can stand on
00:54their own, enjoy life like normal people.
01:00One day I discussed with a group of children and I want to take them go out.
01:06So one of the girls, she feel very sad.
01:09Then I realised she's the handicapped girl and she cannot go into the car.
01:14So she feel very bad while other children can go.
01:18So I told her I will decide something to make her able to go up to my car because now
01:24she's a little bit overweight so I cannot carry her into my car anymore.
01:30After a few months, I come up with this idea of autonomous bridge and I think this is very
01:36economical to make locally and it will be useful for those people who are handicapped
01:42and who cannot get into the car.
01:45I use a very simple mechanical platform.
01:48I asked my friend to help me to build this.
01:52He built it with the waste material from his workshop and of course the cost is very low.
01:58And this autonomous bridge is very light, it's only about five kg.
02:01So anybody can carry with one hand and put this bridge in the car and when you reach
02:07the destination, you take out from the car and set the autonomous bridge and allow the
02:13handicapped people to come down, to go wherever they like.
02:17So now this girl is using the bridge when I take her to the hospital or I take her to
02:23the park or go shopping, I can carry her and go anywhere I like.
02:28I feel very happy and it's very helpful to me when I use the transfer bridge.
02:37It's very easy for me to use it.
02:40I hope for this innovation programme, more people will learn about the difficulties of
02:48the handicapped people and try to help them so that to make them join the workforce, to
02:55make them have a happy life.
