00:00:00♪♪
00:00:04Hardhat's all about showing up to play hard,
00:00:06doing what it takes to win.
00:00:07If you want to cement legacy, win another.
00:00:09More loot.
00:00:10He's your third center.
00:00:11You don't want to pump him up too much,
00:00:13but it's hard not to.
00:00:14This might surprise you, but this is maybe
00:00:16the most I've ever agreed with you.
00:00:18Come on.
00:00:19I'd love to hear it.
00:00:20♪♪
00:00:23Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh.
00:00:25I got to get used to the new intro.
00:00:28This was not a hardhat game, Jimmy.
00:00:30Wasn't ready for it.
00:00:31It didn't, it wasn't a hardhat game.
00:00:32It was more like, it was more like a winter,
00:00:34scrungy, put your hat on just so that you don't get cold
00:00:39and just get sick because...
00:00:41Yeah, this is the time.
00:00:43Yeah, this was, oh.
00:00:45This started out like, like the NIT bracket
00:00:49of the NBA Cup.
00:00:50That's how this game started out.
00:00:52And luckily one team at least, you know,
00:00:56figured it out and they started hitting some shots,
00:00:58some three-pointers.
00:00:59The other team, not so much.
00:01:01Talking about the Celtics and Pistons here.
00:01:03It's the Celtics.
00:01:04Take a 123-99 layup victory after like two weeks off,
00:01:10by the way.
00:01:11Yeah.
00:01:12Uh, you know, again, this is, this is the punishment
00:01:15for not advancing in the NBA Cup.
00:01:17You get like five days off and then you get like a layup
00:01:19line against, well, I should say a three-point contest
00:01:22against the Detroit Pistons, a team that's now beat,
00:01:25I think what, 12, 12 in a row, Sherrod?
00:01:27Your Pistons?
00:01:28I, I, I stopped counting.
00:01:30I, I, I, I just can't do it anymore.
00:01:32It hurts.
00:01:33I believe it was 12 in a row.
00:01:34Yeah.
00:01:35It sounds about right.
00:01:36It's been a lot.
00:01:37You were definitely in double figures.
00:01:38Jason Tatum was 19, I think, when they won.
00:01:42The last time they lost.
00:01:45By the way, Jason Tatum did not play tonight.
00:01:47However, did not factor into this one.
00:01:49Hopefully, you know, that, that's kind of like a side,
00:01:51that's a side topic to this is, you know, is Tatum okay?
00:01:54Is it just an extra night?
00:01:56Who do you believe?
00:01:57What do you believe?
00:01:58After so many nights off, typically, he's not one to skip games, right?
00:02:04So something to, to at least be mindful of, but we'll, we'll, at least for now, we'll
00:02:10keep it to the game.
00:02:11We get Bobby and Noah at the game.
00:02:13Sherrod, you were at the game, kind enough to bomb home and, and join us on the show.
00:02:19John Zanis, I think he's in bed by now, nap time, nighty night for him.
00:02:25You know, Zanis, dude, if the Celtics were to lose this one, he would have figured out
00:02:27a way to jump on, but this is a, this is what they call a filler episode, Sherrod.
00:02:33You know what I mean?
00:02:34This is not going to go down.
00:02:35This is a filler episode in the, in the series here.
00:02:38You know, you could, you could skip this one and you'd still be able to figure out, you
00:02:42know, how the season went for the Celtics team, but we don't take nights off here, guys.
00:02:46We want to thank everyone for jumping on with us on a school night too.
00:02:50Christmas is coming.
00:02:51No days off, man.
00:02:53People are getting their shopping and they're sneaking it in, but we're also going to sneak
00:02:57in a post game show.
00:02:58So we'll get Bobby and Noah on shortly, but I'm with my guy Sherrod right now, and Sherrod,
00:03:02I'm going to throw it to you right off the bat.
00:03:04You were there in that, at least for that first half, talked about a little bit of a
00:03:07slow start, no Tatum, but guys, as they have, stepping in, whether it's Derek White, who
00:03:14got hot, whether it's your guy, Luke, who got, you know, active off the bench, we can't
00:03:20even mention guys who got hot without talking about the hottest, one of them all talking
00:03:25about hot guy.
00:03:27That's a, that's a deep cut.
00:03:28If everyone knows the hot guy, hot guy joke, but we're talking about Peyton Pritchard.
00:03:32What does he have?
00:03:3327 tonight, Sherrod?
00:03:34What did he have?
00:03:35Yeah.
00:03:36Yeah.
00:03:3727.
00:03:3827 and 10.
00:03:39Double, double.
00:03:40Double, double life for Mr. Sixth man of the year or if you're Noah, Mr. MVP, one turnover,
00:03:45no cheap turnovers that, you know, I think it was a game or two ago, he got, he got caught
00:03:49with a, with a turnover that should have been a team turnover, but what stands out
00:03:55to you off the top, Sherrod, in this one?
00:03:58This was a, one of those games where you really didn't need to have all hands on deck, but
00:04:03they decided to show up anyway.
00:04:05You know, as you mentioned, Luke Cornett early on, had it going on, I think I had eight points
00:04:09in the first quarter.
00:04:10The first five points to Celtic score by Porzingis, you know, Jalen Brown was kind of getting
00:04:16his here and there.
00:04:17And it was just a collective team effort when they really, they didn't have to play their
00:04:22A, B, or frankly, C game to get this win.
00:04:26And Detroit, I think Detroit is going to be a competitive team at some point, but they're
00:04:29just too young right now.
00:04:31And the Celtics did what you're supposed to do.
00:04:33When you see a young pup out there, they're trying to be scrappy and trying to find ways
00:04:37to compete.
00:04:38You have to remind them that you're the big dog and this time for the big dog to eat.
00:04:44And, you know, they absolutely feasted on that Detroit Pistons defense, you know, whether
00:04:51it was, you know, Derek White knocking down threes or Drew Holiday getting buckets or
00:04:56Porzingis, you know, catching lobs from Jalen or, you know, the Celtics got whatever they
00:05:01wanted in this game.
00:05:02And really, it's hard to pinpoint one or two guys that stood out significantly more than
00:05:07others, but certainly Peyton Pritchard was a guy who jumped off the pages a little bit.
00:05:14And, you know, with Peyton, we're getting to the point where him scoring 20 points is
00:05:18like, eh, it's kind of what he does now.
00:05:21Didn't Jalen Brown call this in the offseason?
00:05:23Didn't Jalen Brown literally said, you know, there's going to be nights like we're going
00:05:25to let Peyton run the show against like the Pistons.
00:05:28I'm 99.9% sure he said it was against the Pistons.
00:05:33Yeah, because, yeah, because, uh, this is an attack.
00:05:37Yeah, because Tatum's had something similar, except he was talking about Tuesdays in Charlotte
00:05:42or something like that.
00:05:43Yeah, okay, yeah.
00:05:44But they had different teams, but yeah, and this is the kind of game where you can see
00:05:49Peyton actually having a good game, a really good game.
00:05:53Among the many good games that he's had of late for the Celtics, they just handled their
00:05:57business, man.
00:05:58I mean, this was win number 20 on the season.
00:06:00You got a chance to see a lot of guys out there.
00:06:02Jordan Walsh got some run.
00:06:03Peterson got some run.
00:06:05You know, it was just, it was a really good night to empty the cupboard.
00:06:10Yes, the G League, the G League God, Davison.
00:06:15We got Joe, we're going to go to Joe.
00:06:18Joe is...
00:06:19Here we go.
00:06:20Who's on who and how we can get to our spacing, but their basketball IQ and their skill allows
00:06:24them to play and we can take advantage of that versatility.
00:06:27And Chris, I've said this morning, he feels back in the sense of being able to play off
00:06:31teammates and just the familiarity with everybody, but the conditionings, that next step for
00:06:34him to kind of be back fully to himself.
00:06:37How close does he look to you in terms of being all the way back to himself?
00:06:41Yeah, I mean, I think he's there, you know, his body's adapting well to the games.
00:06:46You know, he's playing a little bit more.
00:06:48He was on pace.
00:06:50He played 30 to 90.
00:06:51He was at 28.
00:06:52So he's in that 28 to 32 range nightly and it feels good.
00:06:55So I think he's getting there.
00:06:58Before the game, JV Bickerstaff said that the Celtics team is one of the most unselfish
00:07:01teams that he's seen.
00:07:02I'm curious from your standpoint, do you feel like winning the championship last year has
00:07:05made you guys even more that way because everybody knows that it works?
00:07:09Or do you feel like the group that you started with last year already kind of had this mentality?
00:07:13I mean, regardless of past results, I think it's one that I think it starts with just
00:07:17the guys that we have in the locker room.
00:07:20I think it's important to know that we do have egos.
00:07:23We just put them in the right place.
00:07:25It's not that we shouldn't have them.
00:07:26We shouldn't have them put in the right place.
00:07:28So we have ego.
00:07:29I think they have a trust and an understanding of what can lead to long term success.
00:07:34We do have egos.
00:07:36We have to commit to that every day.
00:07:37And I think the guys work to commit to that.
00:07:39JV said before the game that even without Tatum, you guys just kind of play the same
00:07:46way.
00:07:47You created 48 three-pointers tonight.
00:07:49I think you had 34 assists, one of your highest all season.
00:07:52What goes into the consistency you guys have been able to have over the last couple of
00:07:56seasons when you're missing key guys?
00:07:59It's just the locker room.
00:08:00I mean, I think it's really just the expectation and the professionalism.
00:08:04It's not an excuse.
00:08:05Whoever who's in, who's out has an expectation to do their job, has an expectation to win.
00:08:09Do your job!
00:08:10I think it's just them.
00:08:11They don't miss a beat because of their preparation, their attention to detail.
00:08:15And when guys are out, you can take advantage of different guys' versatility.
00:08:19With JT and Sam out, we played much more double big and you're allowed to be more versatile
00:08:23with the Mimi, Luke, KP lineups.
00:08:26When you're in, it's difficult to get to those sometimes.
00:08:29It's their preparation, their professionalism, and their willingness to just do their job
00:08:32regardless of what's going on.
00:08:33Joe, it feels like we ask you about Peyton every game now, but he even stayed in at the
00:08:38end of the game there with some of the guys who are usually in main or don't get a lot
00:08:41of playing time.
00:08:42How much does he enjoy those moments?
00:08:44Does he ask to stay in in those situations?
00:08:45What is the decision to leave him in there and just watching him play a similar role
00:08:50with the starters and with those guys?
00:08:51Yeah, I mean, he just loves to compete.
00:08:53So at the end of the day, I enjoy it, teammates enjoy it.
00:08:56It's fun just watching him compete at a higher level.
00:08:57He doesn't really play to a scoreboard.
00:09:00He just plays to compete.
00:09:01And that's a beautiful gift that he has.
00:09:04Thank you, Joe.
00:09:05Thanks.
00:09:06Wow.
00:09:07Quick one.
00:09:08Hey.
00:09:09In and out.
00:09:10I like it, Joe.
00:09:11What else do you need to really say, I mean?
00:09:14We just got that.
00:09:15We just beat that ass.
00:09:16Joe, you got that bench.
00:09:17How'd it feel?
00:09:18You know?
00:09:19We beat that ass by 24.
00:09:21I'm going, you know, I'm out.
00:09:23Yeah.
00:09:24I like the, I mean, it's so Joe to say it, but to make sure that everyone knows that
00:09:32they do have egos.
00:09:33They just put them aside for the betterment of the team, for the greater good, to win
00:09:38games.
00:09:39And we can joke about it, but there's truth to it.
00:09:42At the end of the day, when you're in the NBA, Sherrod, I don't care if you're the number
00:09:47one guy or the 15th guy.
00:09:49All right, maybe the 12th guy.
00:09:51You've got, you've probably been the best player around for your entire life, right?
00:09:58Give or take, you know, of course there's some exceptions, but what I'm trying to make
00:10:03is these guys, of course they have, they have egos.
00:10:06They've been told that they're the best for 20 years, right, or 25 years.
00:10:11And now they're on a team where most of them are, you know, there's very clear, I wouldn't
00:10:19say a very clear, but there's an order of, there's a pecking order, right?
00:10:22But on any given night, that order's going to, you know, move around a little bit at
00:10:27the top.
00:10:28It's just going to be who's going to be able to step in, who's going to be ready, who's
00:10:31going to fill this role tonight.
00:10:34It's team basketball.
00:10:35And so you do have to put your egos aside.
00:10:37You do have to say, okay, yeah, I know I could probably go out there and score 30, but are
00:10:41we going to win?
00:10:42You know, are my teammates going to be able to get theirs too?
00:10:45Are we going to have the right sort of juju kind of going into the next game and build
00:10:52some momentum?
00:10:53And this Celtics team, and I think it does start at the top with Tatum and with Brown
00:10:58and those guys that, yeah, we've kind of criticized them over the years at times.
00:11:01My ball, your ball.
00:11:02But you've never gotten a sense where it's just one guy, you know, trying to be the only
00:11:08guy on the team.
00:11:09You haven't gotten that.
00:11:10And certainly not that last year.
00:11:12And to Noah's point, I think not this year either, you know, because they have the recipe
00:11:17for success.
00:11:18They know what it takes.
00:11:19They know there's sacrifice involved and you do have to put your egos aside and you do
00:11:22have to, on a night where, yeah, let's just screw around and try to, you know, let's try
00:11:27to pat our stats.
00:11:28It wasn't really like that.
00:11:29It wasn't that vibe.
00:11:30No, no.
00:11:31And that's, you know, it's a testament to just really the culture that they've built
00:11:35here where you can have some really good players who've done some pretty amazing things in
00:11:40the NBA and yet they can come together as a collective and put a lot of that stuff to
00:11:45the side and just focus on what can I do to impact winning.
00:11:48And it's a very unusual thing to see because the more you watch the Celtics and the teams
00:11:54they play, the clearer it becomes their advantage, their edge is not so much that they have more
00:12:02talent, but they have a better understanding of how to utilize their talent.
00:12:08It's one of those very subtle nuance type things that separates them from pretty much
00:12:13every other team in the NBA.
00:12:14And that's why they're one of the favorites to be the last team standing and repeat as
00:12:18NBA champs.
00:12:19Yeah.
00:12:20I mean, and having seen it work certainly helps.
00:12:26You know what it's going to take.
00:12:27You've been through it.
00:12:28You've listened to everybody telling you to, you know, do it this way or, you know, sacrifice
00:12:33this.
00:12:34You've probably tried the ways that haven't worked.
00:12:37And, you know, so having that recipe for success, tasting it and, you know, enjoying, you know,
00:12:44the fruits of their labor, if you will, allows them to say, let's run it back.
00:12:50Let's just keep doing what we were doing.
00:12:51Let's do it better.
00:12:52Let's do it more.
00:12:53Let's, you know, let's improve in the areas that we know we can improve in, but still
00:12:57keep that same mentality of team first basketball.
00:13:00Yeah.
00:13:01It helps when you've got, you know, eight three-point shooters on your team, right?
00:13:05I mean, the difference in this one was pretty dramatic, Sherrod.
00:13:10I think at halftime, I think the Pistons were two of 19 from three.
00:13:16Two of 19.
00:13:17Ouchy, ouchy.
00:13:18Two of three.
00:13:19And they finished seven of 37.
00:13:23But if you're two of 19 from three against this Celtics team, that was probably, I don't
00:13:29know what they were at that point, but I think they had closer to around nine or 10 threes.
00:13:32They ended up with 20 on the night.
00:13:35So 20 of 48, 42% from three.
00:13:38If you're a team that's not hitting three pointers, you're going to look at the score
00:13:43at the end of this one.
00:13:44It's going to look similar.
00:13:45You're going to lose by 24 points.
00:13:48And we're seeing it more and more now with, I think what you're going to see is teams
00:13:54who can at least try to make an emphasis on trying to go shot for shot, understanding
00:13:59that, listen, we need to figure out a way to shoot more threes if we're not, we need
00:14:02to figure out a way to get guys more for three, because this team is going to come out firing
00:14:0648 three point attempts for the Celtics tonight.
00:14:09A few years ago, that would be an outrageous number.
00:14:13We don't even bat an eye now when we see numbers like that.
00:14:16We just don't.
00:14:17Yeah.
00:14:18That number is called Thursday.
00:14:19Exactly.
00:14:20Thursday stats.
00:14:21And that's with bench guys playing too.
00:14:24So if those guys have no concerns of the attempts going up there, then certainly nobody will.
00:14:34But you could tell at halftime shot when you left, I'm sure you were just like, yeah, this
00:14:39one's done.
00:14:40I mean, this Pistons team just can not hang, if you will, with the Celtics team that's
00:14:46just shooting the way they do.
00:14:48They really do have like eight, they're like one through eight three point shooters.
00:14:52I mean, who on that, who on this team right now, I mean, Drew Holiday admittedly has not
00:14:58had a hot start to this season, but I will say tonight was a game where he showed some
00:15:04life out there.
00:15:05He was, he was up and down the court.
00:15:06He did hit what we ended up with.
00:15:09He was four a bit, four a bit from the field, two or four from three, had a big three off
00:15:15the Jalen Brown steel.
00:15:17I don't know if you saw that when you might've been driving, but third quarter there, Celtics
00:15:21went on a little, one of those little mini microwave runs.
00:15:24We like to call them right when they get hot in about 10 seconds.
00:15:28And I think it was a Pritchard three and then maybe it was the Holiday three, something
00:15:33like that.
00:15:34But other than that, I mean, other than Holiday having a little bit of an off start, especially
00:15:39on that corner three, you've got guys, you can go down the line.
00:15:42I mean, there's not a guy on this team that you wouldn't want taking that shot, taking
00:15:46that three point shot, which is so rare, so rare and unique on, you know, on any NBA team.
00:15:52But this is the, this is their recipe for success.
00:15:56And as much as opposing teams or opposing fans might hate it, why wouldn't you keep
00:16:01playing this way?
00:16:02Right.
00:16:03I mean, I mean, that's a, that's a fax my dog if there ever was one, but you know, you're
00:16:12talking about a team that's not going to ground and pound inside.
00:16:15They're not playing in the paint.
00:16:16They're not playing in the cylinder.
00:16:17Yeah.
00:16:18Having Porzingis back allows them to have that low post presence and he is one of the
00:16:22better post players in the NBA.
00:16:24Right.
00:16:25And we talk a little bit about Porzingis at some point too, just how he sort of, you know,
00:16:29rolling back into things with this team.
00:16:31Maybe not, maybe the efficiency isn't quite there yet.
00:16:34But he's given them another avenue of ways to score while still being able to take, you
00:16:40know, 25, 27 foot three point shots without a blink of an eye.
00:16:45Right.
00:16:46We got Drew Holiday on the screen down here, so you might as well, we might as well talk
00:16:48about him for a minute.
00:16:49But you know, 12 points tonight from Drew, two or four from three, you know, that's again,
00:16:57the Drew Holiday that the Celtics traded for was not probably, let's put it this way.
00:17:05The three point shooting that we saw from Drew Holiday last year was gravy, was the
00:17:09icing on top.
00:17:10I think he comes back down a little, back down to earth clearly this season as he has
00:17:15been.
00:17:16I don't think you can expect to see 60% three point shooting from the, from the corner.
00:17:20Right.
00:17:21But what he's still going to give you on this team is the energy, the effort, the tenacity
00:17:26on defense.
00:17:27Is he getting up there a little bit in age?
00:17:29Of course, you know, Father Time's undefeated.
00:17:32We're not there yet with Drew Holiday.
00:17:33He is still a guy that can put the clamps on defenders.
00:17:36He's still going to be physical.
00:17:38He's still going to be aggressive out there.
00:17:39Seven rebounds tonight.
00:17:40Six assists.
00:17:41It's a great stat line.
00:17:42If you're getting 12, seven and six from Drew Holiday on any, on every single night, there
00:17:46are no, no problems with that.
00:17:48No one's having an issue with Drew Holiday's production.
00:17:50I think what happened, who was it last game?
00:17:57When it was Drew Holiday taking 20 shots.
00:18:01Who was that?
00:18:02I'm blanking on that now.
00:18:03Some of the chats probably going to go crazy.
00:18:06I hate when my brain fails me.
00:18:09But it was Grizzlies.
00:18:10Sorry, Grizzlies.
00:18:11Oh, you're looking for a team out there or you're looking for a player?
00:18:15I'm trying to figure out the game in which that happened, in which the Grizzlies beat
00:18:20the Celtics.
00:18:21And you're looking at a box score.
00:18:23And the one thing that's going to jump out to you in that box score is Drew Holiday.
00:18:28Eight of 26 from the field.
00:18:32Four of 17 from three.
00:18:35So that's not a, that's not a typical, I mean, that's an out, those are outrageous numbers.
00:18:40Drew Holiday should not be taking that many shots.
00:18:44Obviously, it's the reason the Celtics lost that game.
00:18:47And you can go, go back and watch the film and see what it was that Memphis did to kind
00:18:51of force Holiday and the Celtics into, into those shots.
00:18:55Wasn't the case tonight, certainly, completely different strategy.
00:18:58And again, again, against a lesser team.
00:19:02Maybe the Grizzlies found something there.
00:19:04Maybe they saw something and they figured out a way that they could.
00:19:06Clearly it worked for them.
00:19:07But that's kind of like the chess game of the NBA, right?
00:19:10Is that like the Celtics have to go back, look at that film and figure out, okay, how
00:19:13can we prevent Holiday from being in that situation?
00:19:17How can we get other guys available and open to prevent that level of shooting?
00:19:23Because clearly that's not who they want.
00:19:27If you're talking about shooters on the Celtics team, again, you didn't trade for, you didn't
00:19:31trade for Holiday for a shooting.
00:19:34You'll certainly let him take the three if he's open, but you've got guys on this team
00:19:38that you'd much rather see shooting the ball.
00:19:40Whether it's Tatum, Brown, Pritchard, White.
00:19:44I mean, I just rattled up Porzingis.
00:19:46I just rattled off five guys right there before Holiday gets mentioned that everybody would
00:19:50agree with.
00:19:51And then Hauser, you know, I mean, depending on the night with Hauser, I know he's battling
00:19:54some injuries, so it's a little iffy with him right now too.
00:19:58But Holiday is not the guy you want taking 20 plus shots a game.
00:20:02It's the usual suspects.
00:20:05So it was a good bounce back game, I thought, from Holiday tonight.
00:20:08And again, a similar role production wise that you're going to want to see from him
00:20:12moving forward on a team that with him putting up those numbers with all the other talent
00:20:16they have around him, that's pretty much what you need.
00:20:19It's what he gives you on the defensive end that's going to be his bread and butter.
00:20:23And then we got Derek White.
00:20:24I know we haven't really mentioned Derek White much tonight, but certainly with Tatum out
00:20:28you knew there were going to be guys that were going to elevate the way they typically
00:20:32have.
00:20:33Derek White doesn't need Tatum to be out to do that, but certainly on a night where
00:20:37he is, you're looking for him a little bit more, 23 points tonight.
00:20:42How about that, Sherrod?
00:20:43Seven of 12 from three point range, picked 13 shots, 12 of them were threes, and he hit
00:20:49seven, man.
00:20:50I mean, this guy, this freaking guy is just unbelievable.
00:20:55And I don't think he got off to the best of start shooting the ball either.
00:21:00I think he just got into a nice rhythm at the half and just kept it going from there.
00:21:06They needed somebody to kind of get going in this game, and it was Pritchard, especially
00:21:12in that second quarter.
00:21:14I think Pritchard kind of set the tone and got guys buzzing a little bit after that start.
00:21:20And Derek White said, all right, big dog, I'll ride, and those two guys kind of led
00:21:29the way there.
00:21:31But what White's been giving you this year, I mean, you talk about having three All-Stars.
00:21:35I think that's an easy call.
00:21:38Maybe I'm, am I biased or am I just not watching enough of the-
00:21:41You are absolutely biased.
00:21:42I am biased, but-
00:21:43But you might be right with this one, though.
00:21:45Your bias might be leading you down the right path.
00:21:47I just don't know how you can, again, I'd have to really, Bobby and Noah could answer
00:21:53it easier than I could, because those guys are like 24-7 NBA.
00:21:58I'm like, not 24.
00:22:01I am seven.
00:22:02I'm not 24, though.
00:22:04I got to get my sleep.
00:22:05I got to get some other things in.
00:22:07But going around the Eastern Conference, I mean, if you're a Celtics team that's just
00:22:14playing the way they are right now, obviously, you've got your guys at the top, and Derek
00:22:18White is kind of like the heartbeat of this team.
00:22:21Yeah.
00:22:22He really is.
00:22:23He really is.
00:22:24And the thing about it, he's going about handling his business without trying to conform to
00:22:29how others handle their business.
00:22:31He's just doing what he does, and it's working for him.
00:22:35He's kind of like proscenius from the standpoint of just being a wildcard factor that you know
00:22:41what he can do, but you can't fully measure his impact on outside the lines and things
00:22:49of that nature for this Celtics team to be the best version of who they want to be at
00:22:54the end of the day.
00:22:55So Derek White's having a great year.
00:22:56I think he's doing a lot of really good things as someone who, again, has so many attributes
00:23:01that benefit the Celtics organization.
00:23:06Fans love them from Derek White, and this was another game that reminds us why people
00:23:11love him so much around here.
00:23:14It's White.
00:23:15It's, you know, talking about the fans, not to jump around, but the only reason I, when
00:23:19you say that, I immediately remembered the reaction that Pritchard got entering the game,
00:23:25and you were there.
00:23:26Yeah.
00:23:27Is anyone getting bigger cheers than Pritchard is right now?
00:23:29And I'm being honest.
00:23:30I am being completely honest.
00:23:31And Tatum, I'm including everybody on this Celtics team, at least from watching it on
00:23:35television, the sound that I'm hearing is I don't hear bigger, a bigger applause for
00:23:41anybody than Peyton Pritchard right now.
00:23:43And I'm not saying it's not warranted, the way he's playing and his emergence and sixth
00:23:46man of the year and all that stuff.
00:23:49And obviously during the game, you know, it's pretty much, it's not focused on one guy.
00:23:55It's who's hitting these shots and who's, you know, it could be Derek White at any moment
00:23:59too.
00:24:00But when you're entering the game or when, when you are on a little bit of a streak,
00:24:03it feels like Pritchard's the guy that's getting the fans going like more than anybody
00:24:08right now.
00:24:09Yeah.
00:24:10Yeah.
00:24:11And, and, and, you know, he, he's another example of a guy on his team who doesn't have
00:24:15a clear path to getting on the court.
00:24:17So you make some tough choices, you know, two of them to me are just, you know, staying
00:24:25as is and just kind of going from there.
00:24:29Bottom line though, with this Celtics team, they're really good.
00:24:34And I know it's like, duh, but how many teams, yeah, thanks, thanks for coming out.
00:24:40The way that this team is built though, I mean, Joe touched on it.
00:24:45They don't miss a beat when a guy's out and you know, when you're talking about a guy
00:24:50like Tatum, who's these legitimate top five, certainly a player in this league and they
00:24:55miss a game and your guys are like, okay, we just got to go out and kick some ass with
00:25:03our guy.
00:25:04That's, that's what we do.
00:25:05So they're just, this team, just the way they're built, it's just so impressive.
00:25:11The way they consistently play at a high level, they don't really take plays off.
00:25:16Obviously that's, they're not going to be a hundred percent foolproof with that, but
00:25:19they generally are, they're not, you know, shrunken their responsibility to be a top
00:25:26team.
00:25:27They want that smoke and they want that smoke all the time.
00:25:31They want the smoke.
00:25:33I'm wondering if anybody in the chat took any Celtics players in prize picks tonight.
00:25:40Jackson, hit me with the prize picks.
00:25:43Unless, wait a second, you got a message here.
00:25:46Yeah, hit me with the prize picks, Jackson, because if you're on prize picks right now,
00:25:52I hope you're going more, more, more on these Celtics teams.

00:26:51is trying to hijack Christmas, but it's still the NBA for me.
00:26:55So what's going to be better on Christmas, you know, waking up, doing the gifts, hopefully
00:26:59you get a, hopefully you got your goodness year, you get a gift and then turn on basketball

00:27:11I mean, what's better than that?

00:28:12You got to pour over.
00:28:13What did I do wrong?
00:28:14What did I think?
00:28:15And where did I go wrong?
00:28:18So again, guys, download the app today, use the code CLNS to get $50 instantly.
00:28:22After you play your first $5 lineup, prize picks, run your game.
00:28:28It allows me to read the shot way easier because like they're playing up on me.
00:28:34Then I drive.
00:28:36It's an easy release for me.
00:28:37It also allows guys to, to make the read like if I'm out there, if guys are in the paint,
00:28:43they're not going to be able to close out.
00:28:44So most teams now are going to take a step towards me and I'm really past the three point
00:28:49line.
00:28:50So they're where they're helping as already on the three point line.
00:28:53So you got guys like JT, JB where the driving lanes are that much open.
00:28:56So it just, it creates a lot of openness on the court and makes the lane driving lanes
00:29:01a lot easier.
00:29:02And the reads a lot easier.
00:29:04When JT's not going, does that change your mindset?
00:29:07Do you feel that changes the collective mindset of the group in any way in terms of how you're
00:29:11going to contribute and the ways in which you're going to engage or not?
00:29:15It shouldn't at all.
00:29:16Try to keep the same mindset.
00:29:17I mean, we try to hang our hat on playing just the right basketball.
00:29:21So no matter who is in, you make the right reads regardless.
00:29:24So it's not like JT's playing and you're like, oh, I'm going to get more shots tonight.
00:29:29That should never be the case.
00:29:30I'm always hunting to take the right shots, take the right, make the right passes.
00:29:34So, and when he comes back, we should continue to always play like that.
00:29:39And is sixth man of the year something that you're intentional about at this point?
00:29:42Is that something you've put on your radar?
00:29:44It's not something I really think about.
00:29:46If I'm fortunate to win, that's, I guess, a testament to the hard work I put in.
00:29:52And I think it just means that I've helped this team and coming off the bench and doing
00:29:57my job at a high level.
00:29:58So it's not something I'm like, if I don't win, it's not make or break it for me.
00:30:04I'm going to keep continuing what I'm doing.
00:30:06And but yeah, it would be an honor.
00:30:08It would be an honor because you get a raise.
00:30:11JV Bickerstaff said this is one of the most unselfish teams that he's seen.
00:30:16And then Joe said that it's not that you guys don't have egos, you just know where to put
00:30:19them.
00:30:20From your standpoint, obviously, you've talked about being really confident, even when you
00:30:22weren't playing, even when you weren't in this position.
00:30:25How do you balance being really confident and having an ego, but also together being
00:30:29a really unselfish team from your standpoint?
00:30:31Well, I think Joe's right.
00:30:33We all have egos.
00:30:34We're all really confident people.
00:30:36And I don't think we'd be in the position we are today without a little bit of that.
00:30:39And you got to have that.
00:30:41But it's understanding that at times you got to do what's best for the team.
00:30:45And that's a selflessness that our guys have and should continue.
00:30:52So obviously, it contributes to winning.
00:30:55So yeah, good group of guys.
00:30:57And do you feel like winning last year helped make people realize that the way that you
00:31:00guys played is the winning formula?
00:31:02There's more buy-in even.
00:31:03You don't even have to push past it, if that makes sense?
00:31:05For sure.
00:31:06I mean, you did it.
00:31:07For sure.
00:31:08So it works.
00:31:09So you should buy into it.
00:31:10And we should continue to do it.
00:31:12And what I love about our group is it really can be somebody's night every different night.
00:31:17Like KP could go for 30, JB 30, JT.
00:31:22That's what makes it so good.
00:31:23You can't really game plan one person.
00:31:25It could be anybody's night.
00:31:27Peyton, I've never seen a big like KP, 7'2", just pull up from 3 the way he does, the confidence,
00:31:34the range.
00:31:35How does that change the way Big-
00:31:36He's been doing it for years.
00:31:37He hasn't gotten a league.
00:31:38What are you talking about?
00:31:39You've never seen him before.
00:31:40He's a match-up problem.
00:31:41Because if you switch him, we always tell him if he gets two feet in the paint and you
00:31:44throw it to him, it's almost automatic or you got to foul him.
00:31:48And then obviously if a big is guarding him and he's on the perimeter, you have to guard
00:31:52him way out.
00:31:53And what does that do for us?
00:31:54The driving lanes are open.
00:31:55There's no rim protection.
00:31:56And obviously that's a big problem with the guards we have.
00:31:59So I mean, him and Al, they open the game up so much for us, the way they can space
00:32:04the floor.
00:32:05So it is huge.
00:32:06And that's why he's a tremendous player.
00:32:10All right.
00:32:14Tremendous player.
00:32:15That was the Pea Party himself.
00:32:18We are going to bring in our own party guy.
00:32:21Hey there, Bobby Manning.
00:32:23Bobby Manning in the building.
00:32:26B Party.
00:32:27What's up, Bobby?
00:32:29What's going on?
00:32:30How you living?
00:32:31Easy one tonight.
00:32:32Yeah.
00:32:33This is great.
00:32:34Did you have feet up?
00:32:35Were you like laptop?
00:32:36Oh, yeah.
00:32:37I've seen you.
00:32:38I've seen you in the bloods.
00:32:39You go feet up like on the table and you just kind of like start scrolling Twitter.
00:32:45Articles done.
00:32:46Yeah.
00:32:47Articles.
00:32:48Game stories written.
00:32:49Now the post game's done.
00:32:50Everything's done.
00:32:51This is great.
00:32:52That's it.
00:32:53That's it.
00:32:54Well, we're not going to break down play by play this game, Bobby, but I asked you right
00:33:01off the top kind of what stood out to him in this one.
00:33:03What did you take from it?
00:33:04Who stood out?
00:33:05I mean, you were there obviously post game, too.
00:33:09What do you got for us?
00:33:10You know, what do you what do you had on this game?
00:33:13Yeah.
00:33:14We know at this point that they consider Tatum, they consider Hauser and be OK and be more
00:33:20than OK.
00:33:21Be up by 30 points in a game where they do that.
00:33:24That's no surprise in a game like this.
00:33:25I did find Joe's comment interesting about how part of it is them being interchangeable,
00:33:32but part of it also is that guys can play different styles, different roles when they're
00:33:37out or when other guys are out.
00:33:39And I think you see that with Pritchard in a game like this.
00:33:41He obviously just talked about how he's not hunting shots more with Tatum out, but more
00:33:45are available to him and he's able to succeed at a lower shot number and a higher shot number
00:33:51like we saw tonight.
00:33:52And then for Cornette, who is excellent in this game as well, I think he was able to
00:33:57thrive in a double big look there with Porzingis and that ended up being a good combination
00:34:01that they got to through the course of this game.
00:34:03I love that play as many points as he had in this game where he's diving downhill, catching
00:34:08the ball on the move and passing out to White for three and that's something we haven't
00:34:12seen yet.
00:34:13Him and Porzingis playing off each other.
00:34:15So with each passing game, Sherrod, whether it's guys resting or in and out of the lineup
00:34:19or they're just trying different stuff, I feel like we're seeing a little something
00:34:24new that they can take note of through each of these games.
00:34:26They're obviously not going to benefit a ton from this win tonight long-term, right?
00:34:30But maybe they look at what they did with that Porzingis-Cornette combo and they see
00:34:34a chance down the line to use that again and they do some of the stuff that they did with
00:34:38that group in there at a more important point in the season.
00:34:43So I feel like just about every night we're seeing a little something that they can carry
00:34:47forward into the future.
00:34:48And it was only a few small things here in this one, but they couldn't end up being important
00:34:52nonetheless.
00:34:53You saw some Al and Kata together.
00:34:55This is a very double big oriented game and it looked pretty good.
00:35:02That it did.
00:35:03It looked very good.
00:35:05You mentioned double big.
00:35:08Is that something that you think we're going to see a little bit more or is that just matchup
00:35:10base?
00:35:11Is that just because Tatum was out or is that something that Joe's feeling a little bit
00:35:17more comfortable with those guys in there at the same time?
00:35:22I think it's where they're at with their wings and it is a question we have to continue to
00:35:26ask here.
00:35:27Obviously it hasn't hurt them too much this season, but you go down Tatum, you go down
00:35:30Hauser.
00:35:32I feel like in most spots this season, obviously not tonight, that they've missed Hauser.
00:35:36You still saw Walsh, Peterson in spots in this game.
00:35:39I was glad that they were able to get some opportunities, but they didn't do too much
00:35:42with it.
00:35:43So you still feel better about Porzingis moving over the four, Horford sign over the four
00:35:48next to a Kata rather than having an extra wing out there and Walsh again, he got those
00:35:53two great opportunities.
00:35:54They're looking for him.
00:35:55He gets those wide open corner threes and he can't cash them again, even if the nice
00:36:00afternoon he had in Maine on Sunday.
00:36:02So that's a tough one out of this one is that he wasn't able to get going.
00:36:05I know he had that dunk later, but you got to take advantage of those opportunities.
00:36:10I thought Peterson was fine and didn't do a ton, didn't have to do a ton, but right
00:36:14now we're still looking at a team that rather than playing those depth wings and Shireman
00:36:19is about to begin a long stint in Maine, as Noah told us the other day, they're more confident
00:36:25in their big sliding over to those wing spots and some of their depth wings right now.
00:36:30You mentioned Porzingis, where are you at with him about six games in now?
00:36:38Do you like where he's at with this team?
00:36:40Do you like the shots that he's getting the, you know, I mean, I don't, I don't think anyone's
00:36:46watching him play and say, Oh, he's favoring something or he's not, he's still, you know,
00:36:53not healthy.
00:36:54I don't think that's it at all.
00:36:55But where do you, where do you see how he's sort of slid back into things through the
00:36:58first, you know, five or six games here?
00:37:01Yeah, we, we talked to him a couple of times this morning.
00:37:03He talked as well as after the game tonight and he said he's probably going to need a
00:37:06few more games till he feels like he's back to that full level of conditioning.
00:37:10Wasn't able to do a ton in his recovery process of up and down work until those main scrimmages
00:37:15that set him up to return.
00:37:17So you see the moments tonight, I don't know if you guys saw on TV, but a couple of the
00:37:21longer sequences he played, you see the hands on the knees, you see a little bit of fatigue
00:37:25from him.
00:37:26And he said, you know, the corner isn't quite back and I don't know if that's a rhythm or
00:37:29a fatigue for the game thing or he's just missing them.
00:37:32They're obviously pretty good looks on.
00:37:34He talked a little bit about that after the game there too, but he said he feels like,
00:37:37you know, a couple more games, a couple more extended minutes.
00:37:41He went for 30 tonight.
00:37:43He's going to be back to that full form conditioning wise.
00:37:45And in terms of integrating back to the team, that was easy.
00:37:49He said, just because it's the same group, same guys that he's been playing with.
00:37:52And I think you see that with him, the Brown stuff tonight was seamless.
00:37:55It's such a good combination passing wise.
00:37:57I loved them going to him in the high post and Brown cutting downhill and getting the
00:38:01end one there.
00:38:03So I liked how they utilize this passing tonight.
00:38:04That was a great chase down block too.
00:38:06He had at one point.
00:38:07So yeah, like we're getting like what, 85% of what Porzingis usually is.
00:38:14That's probably fair.
00:38:15I mean, he's averaging 20 points a game.
00:38:18Yeah.
00:38:19That three point shot is not falling.
00:38:20I think he's three for 17 over the last two games.
00:38:24So today and or tonight and then in the last one, he gets to take a lot of them.
00:38:29So you do want to see that turn at some point, but it's still pretty early.
00:38:31Right.
00:38:32I mean, he could go, he could go six for 10 and nobody would bat an eye, you know, the
00:38:36next game.
00:38:37Right.
00:38:38So I think it's a matter of just getting in there, getting in the rhythm, you know, especially
00:38:40with the outside shooting.
00:38:41You know, once you, once, once you see a couple go down, all of a sudden they, they all start
00:38:45to fall.
00:38:46So I don't think anyone's concerned about that, but it is good to see him, you know,
00:38:50just getting the burn, you know?
00:38:53And like you said, Bobby, like I said, take a few, it's going to take a few more games
00:38:56to sort of get, maybe get in that NBA game playing shape.
00:39:01But when you're in a, when you're in an organization like Boston and you've got these championship
00:39:04aspirations and certainly he does as well, it's not going to take long.
00:39:09Right.
00:39:10I mean, it's not going to take long at all to get to where you need to be.
00:39:13I think we're going to get Noah joining us shortly here, which is good.
00:39:16Oh, there we go.
00:39:17Very shortly.
00:39:18There we go.
00:39:20She's muted though.
00:39:21We can see her, but we can't hear.
00:39:22Yeah, that's fine.
00:39:24Presto chango rearranjo.
00:39:27There we go.
00:39:28Everything's going great.
00:39:29The Celtics tonight, Noah, hopefully they didn't put you to sleep in that second half.
00:39:35It wasn't exactly a barn burner, but some good things to come out of it.
00:39:42Your guy Peyton Pritchard had himself another night.
00:39:46Talked about it earlier.
00:39:47He might be the fan favorite right now.
00:39:49Bobby, you were there as well.
00:39:50We talked about it with Sherrod.
00:39:51The crowd pop was crazy when he checked in.
00:39:53Is anyone getting a bigger pop than Pritchard right now?
00:39:56We might have to change the name.
00:39:59He might be getting it.
00:40:00The crowd, they go through waves.
00:40:01It was Derek White for a little, then it was KP.
00:40:04I do think it's Pritchard now, but they do go through waves.
00:40:08They've loved Pritchard for a long time, but now it's just elevated.
00:40:12When did they start loving him?
00:40:13When do you think they started loving him?
00:40:14Last year.
00:40:15The day he arrived.
00:40:16No, no, no.
00:40:17No, no, no.
00:40:18Come on.
00:40:19Bobby, Bobby.
00:40:21I think it started in the playoffs last year with the half-court heat.
00:40:24I feel like that's when his legacy became-
00:40:26You mean the loud applause?
00:40:28Yeah.
00:40:29Of course he's going to have some diehard cult fans.
00:40:32There's always been a nice applause for him entering the game.
00:40:36I think Noah's probably onto something.
00:40:38We're in the playoffs where those half-court shots start to fall way too regularly.
00:40:43That's when the legend of Pop Pritchard just came out.
00:40:50Now, I think he's getting a lot of applause than anybody else on the team right now.
00:40:55Not a big deal.
00:40:56It's just something that I've found.
00:40:58Again, another night.
00:41:00Noah, I know you were there for Pritchard because we heard you ask a question.
00:41:04Thoughts on Pritchard's performance tonight and his response to you about the egos or
00:41:10the lack thereof going around the Celtics team?
00:41:13Well, I think there are egos.
00:41:15I know he has an ego.
00:41:16That's why I was curious for his take.
00:41:19Sorry, they have egos, but as Joe pointed out, they put them aside.
00:41:24It's just something I've noticed.
00:41:26The reason I was doing that line of questioning post-game today is because I feel like a bunch
00:41:31of away coaches have come into this building and actually sat in this table where I'm sitting
00:41:35right now because I'm in the away press conference room.
00:41:37They have said that this is a really unselfish team.
00:41:41Honestly, I don't want to say it surprises me, but because they're the team that I cover
00:41:45and they're the team that I watch, I'm just used to them being this way.
00:41:48But I think for them, they come in and they're like, you'd actually be surprised that it's
00:41:53really unusual for teams to just make the right pass and for guys to pass to the open
00:41:57person and to trust that person.
00:41:59Because I asked Bickerstaff, why did he say that?
00:42:02And so, yeah, so that's kind of why I was curious because I think it almost kind of,
00:42:05we don't even talk about it very often how negative this team is.
00:42:08I'm sorry, how selfish, unselfish this team is.
00:42:13You guys are throwing me off.
00:42:17But yeah, so the reason I asked Richard about it, but I lost my train of thought.
00:42:23I can just say one thing.
00:42:25I've gotten, I've said this last post game show, I've gotten so much hate for saying
00:42:28that Tatum was better than Giannis.
00:42:30The Bucks fans have not left me alone.
00:42:32And then I come here and you guys are all yelling at me saying that I hate Tatum.
00:42:36Who said that?
00:42:37I didn't say anything.
00:42:38Look at these comments and you're pinning them.
00:42:41Oh, no, no, no.
00:42:42I just put a quote up.
00:42:43I thought that it came from you.
00:42:44My bad.
00:42:45I thought that we were just giving you your quotes on stage here.
00:42:49By the way.
00:42:50No, no.
00:42:51I can't win.
00:42:52I can't win.
00:42:53Giannis had 37 and four bucks in the cup.
00:42:55I don't want to talk about Giannis anymore.
00:42:57In the cup.
00:42:58Oh, in the cup.
00:42:59God, God.
00:43:00Yeah, make sure you note that.
00:43:01No, what you were saying was you were making a very good point about how we probably don't
00:43:07notice it.
00:43:08We take it for granted, I think.
00:43:09Yeah, we take it for granted.
00:43:10I think when opposing teams are going over the film preparing for the Celtics team, that's
00:43:14probably one of the things that jumps off the page for them is that how they whip the
00:43:17ball around.
00:43:18And I was talking about it with Sherrod before you guys jumped on.
00:43:20There's not really a player or players on this team that want to make it about them,
00:43:25that want to go out and get theirs before anybody else does.
00:43:29If it happens on that night, then it happens on that night.
00:43:31But it doesn't ever feel like that was their mentality going in.
00:43:36It shows in the box scores.
00:43:38It shows in the final scores.
00:43:40It shows in the record.
00:43:41Bobby, is it?
00:43:43Didn't Jalen Brown specifically say that there's going to be nights where Pritchard
00:43:49takes control against the Pistons?
00:43:50You're muted.
00:43:51You're muted.
00:43:52I threw that in my lead tonight.
00:43:54Did you?
00:43:55First thing he said this year at training camp.
00:43:58We're going to have nights going against teams like the Pistons where we'll just let Pritchard
00:44:03go out there and score 30, which has happened.
00:44:06But he understated it.
00:44:08They're letting him do that every night.
00:44:10That's going to be the whole season.
00:44:11It's just let him go handle stuff.
00:44:13And he's going to be the guy who just carries them through the season.
00:44:16I do wonder where they'd be at without him doing everything he's done so far.
00:44:21Because Noah's mentioned it a bunch.
00:44:23There's been so many games, this game included, where they were dead to start.
00:44:26Awful starts all year long.
00:44:28And he comes in and the game changes.
00:44:30He ends up steadying, creating, carrying their offense throughout.
00:44:34It's so crazy at this point.
00:44:36He adds a couple finishes in this game too inside.
00:44:39All the passing growth he's accomplished.
00:44:42You just expect it at this point.
00:44:45Noah tweeted me during the game that it was a big Cornette and Pritchard night.
00:44:49This is a great night for us.
00:44:50Yeah.
00:44:52I always said it with Luke, right?
00:44:54This is what he does.
00:44:55He can say it with Pritchard now too.
00:44:57This is what he does.
00:45:0020 points.
00:45:01Great shooting.
00:45:02I'm glad that Luke paved the pathway for Pritchard.
00:45:04Exactly.
00:45:05Exactly.
00:45:06Never mind an hour spent in the gym or playing pickup with some kid in the park.
00:45:11It's Luke.
00:45:13Luke.
00:45:14Luke.
00:45:15It's always been Luke.
00:45:17So, yeah.
00:45:20I think Pritchard's-
00:45:22Ten assists too.
00:45:23That was the key for him too.
00:45:25Ten assists.
00:45:26One turnover.
00:45:28Again, it's more of the same in a way with Pritchard.
00:45:32These nights-
00:45:34Again, let's talk about taking it for granted.
00:45:36You're not going to take it for granted what Pritchard's doing because it is something that's really kind of surprised everybody to an extent.
00:45:41Everyone except Noah, of course.
00:45:43But you are less surprised by seeing him be the guy.
00:45:48Seeing him get the applause.
00:45:49Seeing him come off the bench and score in bunches like that.
00:45:53I think they needed somebody to kind of get them into gear offensively because this game had a really slow start to it.
00:45:58And he was one of the guys that was able to sort of start filling up the basket.
00:46:03And I think a player like White jumped in as well on the fun.
00:46:07And you got some help from Porzingis and the likes.
00:46:11But at halftime, this game was over, Bobby.
00:46:14I mean, the three-point shooting.
00:46:17The Pistons are just not a team that's going to be able to keep up with the Celtics team when it comes to just straight-up shooting.
00:46:22And I think they only had two three-pointers at halftime.
00:46:25And that kind of told the whole story there.
00:46:27Yeah.
00:46:29And that was a much different way than it went a week ago where the Pistons had all their threes.
00:46:3520 last week.
00:46:36The Boston's 21.
00:46:38And they started 1-17 in this game.
00:46:40So, obviously, different adjustment there.
00:46:43I thought there were some good moments from Keita getting out to the three-point line.
00:46:46They were sending Porzingis out there to defend some shots at different times.
00:46:50He had some good contests.
00:46:51So, back to, you know, we were talking before you came on here, Noah, about the double big looks that carried them through this game rather than the wings, the depth wings.
00:46:58It was good stuff across the board.
00:47:00I thought all their bigs in this game gave them some good stuff for the most part.
00:47:04It felt like a quiet Horford night.
00:47:06But, you know, that's just a Horford experience at this point.
00:47:09His impact is going to be a little more understated in terms of scoring.
00:47:13But still decent stuff from him.
00:47:15He's always going to give you the defense.
00:47:19This was a good night for double big.
00:47:22Bobby mentioned that.
00:47:24Bobby did mention the double big aspect of it before.
00:47:27And then I asked him when he mentioned double big, his thoughts on Porzingis so far, Noah.
00:47:31And I'd like to get your thoughts as well because we're six games in now with Porzingis.
00:47:36You know, he's averaging around 20 points a game.
00:47:38He's obviously still, you know, I think in his own words or in my words, summarizing him, he's trying to get his NBA wind back completely where it needs to be.
00:47:48But other than that, I mean, is there anything that stands out to you in any way about the game that you're watching him play so far?
00:47:55Yeah, honestly, I think just the fact that he's putting up these numbers without really much hiccups.
00:48:02Like, I mean, I know he said a shoot around today that he feels like he's not at completely himself.
00:48:06And there are little things that are maybe less noticeable where he's a step behind.
00:48:10But objectively speaking, considering he had missed like six months of playing five on five basketball, this has been a pretty seamless transition.
00:48:18He's averaging 20.6 points on 46 percent shooting eight rebounds.
00:48:22He's put up several of these big nights tonight.
00:48:24I thought he looked really good beyond just the stats that he's putting up.
00:48:28The rim protection is just completely different when he's there.
00:48:31Like, I want to start writing down every time somebody doesn't take a shot or a shot is a clear miss because poor zing.
00:48:37This is there, whereas, you know, to a month ago, we'd be talking about how they got eaten alive in the paint.
00:48:42I do think that that's how substantial his impact is.
00:48:45So it's impressive. It's one of his best skills.
00:48:47As much as he's injury prone, one of his best skills is how good he is at coming back from these injuries,
00:48:51because most people would have a period of time where they're acclimating, where they're not super confident.
00:48:57It seems like he honestly forgets about the injury and he's like, they'll let me know if I need to be concerned about it.
00:49:02That's always kind of been his mentality.
00:49:03I think a lot of guys would be a lot more hesitant.
00:49:05And you're just not seeing that he's going to get in better shape, obviously.
00:49:08But through five games, I've been overall impressed with how he's been able to help his team.
00:49:13Yeah. And he got banged up on Saturday.
00:49:15It was like, oh, that's not good.
00:49:17He left the game and you don't know if he's coming back.
00:49:20I know John was super concerned that night, seeing him go out with the same ankle that he hurt before.
00:49:26Had surgery on before, rather, and he came back in that second half.
00:49:29And tonight he's rolling again.
00:49:32No ill effects from that.
00:49:34And he's, I feel like, been able to win other than that major injury.
00:49:39And that, you know, that combined with the one in the first round had a major effect on the postseason in terms of his availability.
00:49:47I feel like he's stayed relatively healthy for this group.
00:49:51There haven't been a ton of major injuries, major missed time.
00:49:56And, of course, that one stands out massively because he missed so much time from, let's say, early May until this fall.
00:50:08But when he's been there, he's been able to play consistently.
00:50:12He's been able to give them big minutes.
00:50:14And this experience just continues to be great.
00:50:16We don't have the sound right now.
00:50:17We might later in the show.
00:50:18But Gary asked him a great question about how much joy he's playing with right now.
00:50:23Is this the most joy he's played with in his career?
00:50:25And he said there's been other times like he really enjoyed Washington.
00:50:29He loved playing in Spain at the very beginning of his career.
00:50:32And, you know, the national team, he said, is always great.
00:50:35But after that Dallas stint, which was probably a low point for him and a point where he lost that joy the most.
00:50:41This is this is the height of that for him.
00:50:44And, you know, he said he's showing it with a smiling and just how good of a mood he's been in since he got here.
00:50:49And, you know, we had concerns about that, Jimmy, just based on how the Dallas thing went.
00:50:53I feel like whether it was his fault or Luka's fault or whatever happened there, that that whole time gave him a bad rap.
00:51:00And I guess it was Luka's fault.
00:51:03Luka's the real problem.
00:51:04It's always Luka's fault.
00:51:05Luka's a little whiny baby.
00:51:07You know what I mean?
00:51:08Nobody I think if Luka was on the Celtics team, everyone would hate Luka.
00:51:13That's my take.
00:51:14I disagree.
00:51:15I think he's a little crybaby.
00:51:19In Boston or nationwide?
00:51:22In Boston.
00:51:23I think nationwide he'd be 10 times as hated if he was in Boston.
00:51:26Oh, of course.
00:51:27But I don't think I think in Boston, if they had an MVP caliber player, which they have, like, you're just going to like that guy.
00:51:32There would be some things that would annoy me.
00:51:35Put it this way.
00:51:36Zanis would jump off a bridge.
00:51:38I think Zanis would jump off a bridge at the way that Luka plays.
00:51:43I'm telling you, we only see the shots he makes and the highlights and all that stuff unless you're really watching Dallas Mavericks games.
00:51:50But I have a feeling that Luka would drive people crazy if he was like on their team.
00:51:54He probably drove Porzingis crazy going back to that point.
00:51:58Before we move on, I want to tell everybody about our great friends at Game Time.
00:52:05Game Time is the place to go to get your tickets, folks, whether it's concerts, whether it's sporting events, everything in between.
00:52:14Download the Game Time app.

00:52:22We've got the college.
00:52:24I mean, there might be some college, big college football fans watching.
00:52:27There probably is.
00:52:28And we've got the playoffs all picked out now.
00:52:32Playoffs?
00:52:33The playoffs.
00:52:34We've got the 12-team system and those tickets are going to be available on Game Time now.
00:52:40Obviously, NFL is getting into the, you know, not for the Patriots, but for a lot of NFL teams, the important games are starting right now, right?
00:52:50You know, kind of like mid-December, you know, trying to get your playoff positioning lined up.
00:52:56So if you're a fan of any playoff teams, Game Time is the place to go.
00:53:00Phil does out the fluff to show you only the incredible deals on great seats so you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets.
00:53:09Now, Bobby, Bobby's a big NBA Cup guy.
00:53:14Bobby's a big, big NBA Cup guy.
00:53:17And if he is so big in the NBA Cup, it would only cost him, Sherrod, $14 on Game Time to go to an NBA Cup semifinal, Milwaukee Bucks versus Atlanta Hawks.
00:53:35He could get in the door on Game Time right now for $14.
00:53:40That is how good the Game Time app is.
00:53:43And that maybe is how bad the NBA Cup is.
00:53:47I know Bobby doesn't want to talk about it because that goes against his, you know, he's trying to push the cup, push the cup.
00:53:53Well, guess what?
00:53:54Did you watch the games?
00:53:56I don't need to watch the games.
00:53:57That's it.
00:53:58That's the whole point.
00:53:59I want to say something about the app.
00:54:02I want to say something about the cup.
00:54:04All right.
00:54:05And by the way, I said I'll save it for the show.
00:54:07Game Time does all in pricing.
00:54:09So it toggles the features to show you the total up front.
00:54:11No surprise fees to check out.
00:54:13Everybody hates those fees.
00:54:15You get to see your seat view ahead of time.
00:54:17They guarantee the lowest price, which again, if we're talking about the NBA Cup, it looks like it's $14 right now.
00:54:24And they'll cover your ticket.
00:54:25Not that it would matter for the cup, but your purchase is covered with the most flexible customer service policy in the ticket industry.
00:54:31So download the Game Time app, create an account and use the code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase.
00:54:38How about that for a deal?
00:54:39Terms apply.
00:54:40Again, create an account and redeem the code CLNS for $20 off.
00:54:45Download Game Time today.
00:54:47What time is it, Sherrod?
00:54:49Game Time.
00:54:51Game Time.
00:54:52Game Time.
00:54:53Noah, you have the floor.
00:54:55I was just going to say, I have not been a cup enthusiast.
00:55:01I think I've made that clear.
00:55:03Join a club.
00:55:04Join a club.
00:55:05This past week, I watched a couple cup games.
00:55:08I do think for the young teams, like the Houston's, it's really fun to watch because you're watching guys in the biggest moment of their NBA career thus far because they haven't had those playoff moments.
00:55:18And so if that can be the cup, like just more of those teams, like the young up and coming, like even Atlanta, like this is a new group.
00:55:24They haven't done anything yet together.
00:55:26This is their first time as a unit doing something cool.
00:55:29Like I was kind of like, I was kind of getting into it yesterday, watching them go against the Warriors.
00:55:33I think I wouldn't feel the same way if it was Celtics-Bucks because it's like there's been better battles between those two teams that like the cup's not going to be like the big chapter here.
00:55:42But I'm more into the cup than I was.
00:55:44And I think that watching just some of the guys in Houston celebrating after that game yesterday, like I'm all for a dramatic celebration, even if it's the preseason.
00:55:52Like, I think we may as well all have fun here and like care about basketball.
00:55:55So the way that they were reacting, I was thinking to myself, like, this is kind of the first time that this group has done anything.
00:56:00Like they were not doing anything before.
00:56:02And what did Kirk say?
00:56:03He was furious about the final call.
00:56:05He was pissed.
00:56:06He just lost game seven.
00:56:08So I was like, you know what?
00:56:09He was like, we wanted to win the cup.
00:56:12Plus three.
00:56:13So that's what he said.
00:56:14I'm not going to say I'm making fun of you.
00:56:16I know, I saw the quote.
00:56:18I'm coming around.
00:56:19Listen, I think, again, we're not going to go on a cup tangent.
00:56:22We've done it before.
00:56:23Too many times.
00:56:24That's what it should be, Jimmy.
00:56:25We shouldn't be sitting here watching them pissed in Celtics ball.
00:56:28Okay, but I'm not going to be, Bobby's pissed that they're not in the cup still.
00:56:31That I don't feel.
00:56:33I will say, I mean, like, this was a boring Celtics game.
00:56:36And yeah, could it have been more interesting if they were playing against us?
00:56:39Well, you don't have to get ready, Jimmy, because you're going to not be here.
00:56:42But Celtics Wizards on Sunday.
00:56:45You going to D.C., Jimmy?
00:56:47I'm not going to be.
00:56:48I'm not going to be at D.C. for that one.
00:56:50Oh, that's too bad.
00:56:51I'm not going to be in D.C. for that one.
00:56:53We could have Celtics Bucks instead.
00:56:57But if the majority of the league is suffering because of this,
00:57:01then how is it a good thing?
00:57:03It doesn't make sense.
00:57:04Yeah, I don't know why this is a trade-off.
00:57:08All the fans who apparently aren't watching good games in the cup,
00:57:11they're watching bad games now.
00:57:15Like if non-cup teams are playing each other?
00:57:17I guess.
00:57:18I don't know.
00:57:19That was pretty weak.
00:57:20But then the losing teams get more of a break.
00:57:23That's fair, yeah.
00:57:25It depends what your aspirations are.
00:57:28Like the Rockets' aspirations, or I guess they're playing all right.
00:57:31But some teams' aspirations are not going to be the same as other teams.
00:57:36So like the winning teams would much rather, if you gave,
00:57:40they're not going to ever say it public,
00:57:41but if you gave them the two options of you can either advance in the cup,
00:57:45play harder teams and play more games in a closer amount of time,
00:57:48or you get more time off, you get an easier schedule,
00:57:51and you can kind of, I don't know,
00:57:53rest up a little bit before the holidays,
00:57:55and then like maybe tack on a couple extra wins against bad teams.
00:57:59Like, I don't know.
00:58:01There's too many things going on that don't make sense.
00:58:06The fact that the tickets are $14 for a game that's supposed to matter
00:58:12also goes to show you that there's not a lot of demand for it.
00:58:14And again, maybe the tickets would be a little more expensive
00:58:16with different teams in there.
00:58:18I'm sure if the Warriors were in it,
00:58:19the ticket prices would be higher, but that's just because it's the Warriors,
00:58:23not because it's the cup.
00:58:24I mean, people will pay to go watch the Warriors in any arena.
00:58:27Yeah. It doesn't make sense.
00:58:28A lot of the benefits slash cost of being part of it.
00:58:32And this layoff's crazy.
00:58:35I mean, they're about to play one game now over the next week.
00:58:37The rest you earn from missing this is substantial.
00:58:41And obviously if you make the championship,
00:58:43you have to play an 83rd game.
00:58:46So I don't know what they're going to do with this thing
00:58:49in terms of the scheduling of it,
00:58:51in terms of the benefit of actually winning it.
00:58:54Certainly some teams are going to benefit more than others
00:58:57having been part of it.
00:58:58Noah mentioned, and you said, Jimmy,
00:59:00they're like those up and coming teams.
00:59:02Feels like they're going to get the most out of this thing.
00:59:05But you still do see a Knicks team in it.
00:59:07You still see the Warriors in this thing wanting to win it,
00:59:11wanting to be part of it.
00:59:12So I think John said it last year.
00:59:14When you're in it and you have the chance to go get it,
00:59:17you're going to take that opportunity.
00:59:19But if you don't get it, you're not that mad.
00:59:22And you should probably be more mad.
00:59:23You should probably be feeling it more if you miss it.
00:59:26Instead, the Celtics are just able to sit back this week
00:59:28and rest and recover, get a couple practices in,
00:59:32get some easier games.
00:59:33Now that's not a given, but it worked out for them that way.
00:59:36So this obviously isn't going to hurt them,
00:59:38and it might help them that they miss this.
00:59:40And that doesn't make any sense
00:59:41if they want to make this thing matter.
00:59:43And I don't know how you fix that.
00:59:44I really don't.
00:59:46I don't either.
00:59:47We're not going to figure it out tonight,
00:59:49but it's something for the NBA people to figure out
00:59:53what they need to do to make it worth teams.
00:59:58Either make it worth something for everybody
01:00:00or make it not worth something for everybody.
01:00:02You know what I mean?
01:00:03It's just too all over the place right now,
01:00:06so they'll have to work on that.
01:00:07And when they do, we'll have a show
01:00:09and we'll talk about all the adjustments they made.
01:00:11But we're done talking about the Cup.
01:00:13However, if you're interested in it,
01:00:14go to game time, spend $14,
01:00:17and enjoy Las Vegas for a couple nights.
01:00:21We're not going to have the longest show, guys,
01:00:23because it wasn't really one of those games,
01:00:25but I want to definitely talk to Noah and Bobby
01:00:28about anything else they heard after the game,
01:00:30talking to the players in the locker room,
01:00:32or anything Joe said that stuck out to you.
01:00:35I think there's a practice tomorrow.
01:00:37Is that accurate?
01:00:38Yep.
01:00:40I shouldn't assume that there's going to be
01:00:42any availability from it.
01:00:44No, there won't be.
01:00:45Well, there's supposed to be,
01:00:46but we'll see what actually happens.
01:00:48But as far as tonight goes,
01:00:51was there anything after the game
01:00:52or even before the game that us regular people
01:00:56who don't have the same access as you guys
01:00:58might not know about or might not have heard about
01:01:00that you want to share?
01:01:02Well, this morning Tatum shot around,
01:01:04and I think there's obviously some concern there
01:01:07given that they had all those days off
01:01:09that he had to miss this one just a week
01:01:11after resting the last Pistons game.
01:01:14Joe didn't seem concerned about it
01:01:16and said it's something that's come and gone,
01:01:19the knee soreness or whatever is going on there
01:01:22that forced him to miss tonight.
01:01:24Maybe they just lined up two games against the Pistons
01:01:26that they feel like they could get him out of
01:01:28before more important games coming up.
01:01:30I don't know.
01:01:31But it was weird that he missed this game
01:01:33after four days off.
01:01:34So that was one thing.
01:01:35He was shooting around this morning and looked okay.
01:01:38The Hauser thing, we've talked about it all year,
01:01:41they miss him.
01:01:42And I actually looked it up before the game.
01:01:44I think their offense is like eight points better
01:01:46per 100 when he's on the floor this year.
01:01:49So he's indispensable to them.
01:01:51And after playing 79 games last year,
01:01:54he's hurt again.
01:01:55And he did quite a bit of shooting around this morning,
01:01:57got a ton of threes up, was moving,
01:02:00even doing a little contact with one of the assistants
01:02:02there under the basket.
01:02:03So it doesn't feel like he's going to be out for too long.
01:02:05But he didn't look like he was walking great
01:02:08before practice on, what day was that?
01:02:11Wednesday.
01:02:12So I feel like, you know, with some extra days off here,
01:02:17he'll be in a good place,
01:02:18whether he has to miss that Wizards game or not.
01:02:21I mean, it's been a while.
01:02:23He misses one game tonight,
01:02:24and he's going to have like 10 days off practically.
01:02:27Yeah.
01:02:28Yeah.
01:02:29So I think the big thing,
01:02:30obviously I don't think there's a ton of concern
01:02:32about Tatum, Noah,
01:02:33but I think the big thing with Hauser now is that
01:02:35stuff just keeps coming up this year
01:02:37and the back thing lingered to begin the year.
01:02:40And I don't know how much this will linger if at all,
01:02:42but it's tough after 79 games from him last year,
01:02:45that he hasn't been able to stay on the court consistently this year.
01:02:48Yeah.
01:02:50I mean, he's not an injury prone player historically,
01:02:52but these things are all connected, I think.
01:02:54I mean, you can't prove that,
01:02:55but like if you have a back thing
01:02:57and he's clearly dealing with the back thing,
01:02:59we're seeing him on the bench with whatever it is,
01:03:01a hot pack, a cold pack, whatever it is.
01:03:03And you're just more prone to stretching something else out or,
01:03:06you know, so,
01:03:07and the same way I thought about Porzingis last year,
01:03:09we don't know for sure that the calf injury was related to that
01:03:12ligament that I still don't know how to say that he tore,
01:03:14but probably it was because you're overcompensating for things.
01:03:17So this time is good for him, you know,
01:03:19even if he were to miss two months now,
01:03:21which obviously that's not,
01:03:22it's not going to happen with the current injuries,
01:03:24like they'd be okay.
01:03:25Noah said it too,
01:03:26Hauser out two months.
01:03:27No, no.
01:03:28I knocked on wood.
01:03:29You guys didn't see,
01:03:30I knocked on wood.
01:03:31So I'm just saying,
01:03:33I think,
01:03:34yeah,
01:03:35I think that he is not,
01:03:36this is not making,
01:03:37he's not like an injury prone guy all of a sudden,
01:03:39but when you have something that you're battling with,
01:03:41you're just more likely to have something else happen.
01:03:43And I think that's kind of what we're seeing right now.
01:03:45But I was,
01:03:46that adductor thing,
01:03:47like I thought that was gonna keep him out a little longer.
01:03:49The fact that he was going through a full shoot around today,
01:03:51it's a pretty good sign considering it's like three days after the
01:03:53injury,
01:03:54four days.
01:03:55Sure.
01:03:57Anything,
01:03:58anything after this game?
01:03:59That's that stood out.
01:04:00You guys,
01:04:01did anyone have a really niche?
01:04:02I have a really niche.
01:04:03We're all about niche on the garden report.
01:04:07I'm so,
01:04:08I love watching the main Celtics.
01:04:10I'm sorry.
01:04:11I love watching the main Celtics.
01:04:13Nevermind.
01:04:14I immediately take back what I said.
01:04:16I'll be brief.
01:04:17Give me,
01:04:18give me,
01:04:19give me 60 seconds.
01:04:20This was from when I had my feet up scrolling Twitter,
01:04:22Jimmy.
01:04:23Yeah.
01:04:24I'm about to do the same.
01:04:25You have the floor again,
01:04:26Noah,
01:04:27as the,
01:04:28as the viewers plummet,
01:04:29but let's go.
01:04:30Okay.
01:04:31This is all I'm going to say.
01:04:34JD Davidson.
01:04:35He has been phenomenal in Maine.
01:04:37He's been one of the best players in the G league.
01:04:39I love nominal in Maine.
01:04:41Okay.
01:04:42And then he comes to Boston and in these,
01:04:44in these garbage time,
01:04:46whatever you want to call the minutes,
01:04:47it doesn't seem like even once the ball in his hands today,
01:04:49he got just picked off the dribble,
01:04:51like two consecutive possessions.
01:04:52I felt like,
01:04:53like,
01:04:54like my,
01:04:55my son was out there playing.
01:04:56I wanted him to do so well.
01:04:57And like,
01:04:58it just,
01:04:59it didn't pan out.
01:05:00And I don't know what it is.
01:05:01I don't know if it's just so much pressure when you've been in the G
01:05:03league for three years and dominating him,
01:05:05he had 40 points last week.
01:05:06He's the leading a sister in the G league.
01:05:08One of the leading scores.
01:05:09The sister's not a word,
01:05:10but you know what I mean?
01:05:11He's been so good.
01:05:12And so I'm just sad that this is not panning out for him in
01:05:15Boston.
01:05:16I don't know if he just needs a bigger opportunity where he knows
01:05:18he's going to get more consistent minutes,
01:05:20Or if it's just literally the physical difference between Boston and
01:05:24Maine,
01:05:25he feels it right away.
01:05:26And maybe that's what's disrupting him.
01:05:27But that was my one,
01:05:28my one unfortunate thing about today.
01:05:30He had that six minute stretch when he checked in.
01:05:32I was like,
01:05:33this is a big,
01:05:34this is a big portion of time here.
01:05:35Like he can really do some damage.
01:05:36He had a three,
01:05:37but he didn't look comfortable.
01:05:38He didn't look like the JD that I know in Maine.
01:05:39So,
01:05:40you know,
01:05:41you know what John would say,
01:05:42Jimmy for a.
01:05:43Yeah.
01:05:44So Noah,
01:05:45you took the time.
01:05:46You just,
01:05:47you basically just said trade,
01:05:48trade JD.
01:05:49No,
01:05:50I didn't say that.
01:05:51I just said that.
01:05:52Well,
01:05:53you kind of said that he's,
01:05:54you pretty much said he needs a new,
01:05:55like you're putting words in her mouth,
01:05:56Jimmy.
01:05:57She didn't say that.
01:05:58It's all that ever happens here to run.
01:05:59That's all that ever happens here.
01:06:00No,
01:06:01no,
01:06:02no.
01:06:03Listen,
01:06:04you,
01:06:05you would,
01:06:06I mean,
01:06:07you have a good perspective because you do pay attention to what goes
01:06:08on up there a lot more than a lot of people.
01:06:09So you would be able to say more than most of us,
01:06:10whether or not he does look uncomfortable out there.
01:06:12If he's not playing the same way,
01:06:13it might have to do with the fact that the opponents.
01:06:17Aren't in the G league when he's in Boston.
01:06:21So that might have something to do with it a little bit.
01:06:26But again,
01:06:27games like these for the diehards are great because you get that fourth
01:06:31quarter where you get to see,
01:06:33I was interested to see how he would do.
01:06:35Yeah.
01:06:36Yeah.
01:06:37You get to see Davidson.
01:06:38You get to see a little bit of wash in this game.
01:06:40You even saw some Tillman,
01:06:42our old friend Tillman got a little,
01:06:44he's still on a roster after all these weeks.
01:06:47So
01:06:50that is one of the things,
01:06:52but post game,
01:06:54did anyone else speak besides Pritchard?
01:06:56And
01:06:58well,
01:06:59just Pritchard and Porzingis.
01:07:00That was it.
01:07:01Huh?
01:07:02Yep.
01:07:03Derek didn't speak in the locker.
01:07:04No,
01:07:05we'll hear from him tomorrow.
01:07:07Okay.
01:07:08We'll hear from them tomorrow.
01:07:11Well,
01:07:12I hit on Butler quick.
01:07:13I do.
01:07:14I was going to wait for the lower third,
01:07:15but we're just going to go to it and Jackson will toss it up when he's got
01:07:18it.
01:07:19So yeah,
01:07:20let's talk about Butler.
01:07:21We talked about a little bit yesterday.
01:07:22I want to hear what you and Sherrod have to say about it.
01:07:24Cause Noah and I talked about it at length.
01:07:27It feels like this is going to happen,
01:07:28right?
01:07:29It feels like this breakup's coming here.
01:07:30I know the agent went crazy on Shams,
01:07:32but I have to think that the heat of realizing it's time for a mini reset,
01:07:38maybe overdue,
01:07:39but whether it's overdue or not,
01:07:41I think the time is now and I don't know how many teams can actually go get
01:07:45them.
01:07:46Obviously the list is Dallas,
01:07:48Houston,
01:07:49Golden State.
01:07:52So where would you like to see him,
01:07:53Jimmy?
01:07:54Definitely out West.
01:07:55And you named a bunch of West teams.
01:07:57Now I don't know the conference.
01:07:59Yeah.
01:08:00I don't know like how the money is going to,
01:08:01don't ask me how it's going to fit and which teams can afford them.
01:08:05I know that his agent got,
01:08:07I drew it out.
01:08:08I don't know how it would work for Dallas,
01:08:10but if it's Golden State,
01:08:12I think it will be Wiggins,
01:08:13Kaminga,
01:08:15maybe a couple other contracts and picks.
01:08:18And if it's Houston,
01:08:19I think you can just do Van Fleet for Butler and the picks that they have.
01:08:24Doesn't Houston just feel like an awesome place for him to go?
01:08:28Yes.
01:08:29That's my pick.
01:08:31It feels inevitable,
01:08:32Sherrod.
01:08:33And they've been doing this thing,
01:08:34right?
01:08:35Where they're like,
01:08:36Oh,
01:08:37we're being patient.
01:08:38We're going to see how this year goes.
01:08:40But when that opportunity comes and you could do the trade that easily,
01:08:44how's he,
01:08:45you know,
01:08:46he may wants to speed this thing up a little bit.
01:08:48He's not in this for a rebuild.
01:08:50Not only that,
01:08:51but doesn't Butler kind of fit EMA's mold?
01:08:53Like,
01:08:54yeah,
01:08:55absolutely.
01:08:56Yes.
01:08:57Hard,
01:08:58hard,
01:08:59hard nosed player,
01:09:00tough,
01:09:01kind of an asshole,
01:09:02you know,
01:09:03just what the type of guy that email it probably wants everybody to be out
01:09:07there in the court.
01:09:08And they have the assets too,
01:09:09right?
01:09:10Yeah.
01:09:11They could actually make it happen.
01:09:12Yeah.
01:09:13They can sweeten the pot as much as they want to with all the different
01:09:16options that they have at their disposal.
01:09:18So that,
01:09:19that would,
01:09:20it just,
01:09:21it almost feels as though that deal would make too much sense that because
01:09:25it makes so much sense on almost every metric you can think of Miami,
01:09:29it'd be like,
01:09:30nah,
01:09:31we're not going to do that.
01:09:32Well,
01:09:33do you want to take back van fleet two years at 40 million?
01:09:36No.
01:09:37Well,
01:09:38what's the point?
01:09:39I mean,
01:09:40yeah,
01:09:41you're getting,
01:09:42you're getting rid of mold.
01:09:43You got to get the picks involved and stuff too,
01:09:44right?
01:09:45At this point.
01:09:46Like,
01:09:47I don't know that they want to give up van fleet either.
01:09:48He's,
01:09:49he's really important to what they're doing over there.
01:09:50Yeah.
01:09:51And they brought him in to be a culture guy and all that.
01:09:52He hasn't played great there since they signed them,
01:09:53but they did make a move over the summer.
01:09:54Quietly them in the net straight,
01:09:56a bunch of picks back and forth between each other.
01:09:58So they have all those Kevin Durant's Durant son's picks that the nets got
01:10:02from Phoenix back then.
01:10:03So I think they could trade three of those to Miami.
01:10:06And obviously we'll see what happens with the sons into the future here.
01:10:09Sons also mentioned here as a possible destination.
01:10:12I don't know how that kind of got involved.
01:10:14Yeah.
01:10:15And he was like,
01:10:16what's going on here?
01:10:17Because I don't know how that works without trading deal.
01:10:19That's what I read.
01:10:22Yeah.
01:10:23And he has a no trade clause.
01:10:24So he's not going to Miami.
01:10:25You would think,
01:10:27you would think he would.
01:10:28Hey,
01:10:29I love Miami.
01:10:30That's the thing though.
01:10:33That's like the,
01:10:34that's the X factor with Miami.
01:10:36Is that it's not out of the complete realm of possibility that,
01:10:38that a player might want to just play there.
01:10:41Right.
01:10:42You got to think about it from Miami standpoint too here.
01:10:44Cause they're not going to be going rebuild mode,
01:10:45right?
01:10:46They're still going to have here.
01:10:47They're still going to bam.
01:10:48It's always a destination.
01:10:49So you can rebuild.
01:10:51You want to go get a BL.
01:10:53You can rebuild,
01:10:54rebuild,
01:10:55rebuild a lot faster when you're in Miami,
01:10:57because you're a destination.
01:10:59I mean,
01:11:00if they have a tax situation works out for players,
01:11:03the weather,
01:11:04the culture,
01:11:05everything is very more appealing to a,
01:11:09to a player than it would,
01:11:10if we're talking about Milwaukee or Austin or Oklahoma city or wherever,
01:11:16you know?
01:11:17And if they have BL hero and bam,
01:11:19it could still make the playoffs in the east.
01:11:22You can make the plans,
01:11:23but if they can make the plans with Jimmy Butler too,
01:11:25is,
01:11:26is that what their point is that what their goal is?
01:11:27And I think that's the whole thing is,
01:11:29is that like,
01:11:30and we've seen it with Butler and,
01:11:32and the past,
01:11:33and maybe we didn't think it would happen in Miami,
01:11:35but he's worn out as welcome in other organizations too.
01:11:40And whether it's an attitude thing or whether he,
01:11:43whether he's justified and feeling the way he does.
01:11:46He's a lot.
01:11:47He's a lot.
01:11:48He is a lot.
01:11:50And so you ask yourself now,
01:11:53is he worth it?
01:11:54That's the question.
01:11:55Now,
01:11:56is he worth it?
01:11:57Right.
01:11:58Will Miami heat fans even know if he's traded?
01:12:00Don't they have to show up to games?
01:12:02Well,
01:12:03nevermind.
01:12:04How many games would it take for heat fans to even realize he's not on the
01:12:07team anymore?
01:12:08Flip that.
01:12:10So somebody else gets the wrath of somebody else's fan base.
01:12:13Hey,
01:12:14I'll take it.
01:12:15Bring it on.
01:12:16Did Noah,
01:12:17did Noah present that question,
01:12:18Jimmy?
01:12:19I think that came from Noah.
01:12:20I think Noah said,
01:12:21heat fans don't pay any attention.
01:12:23Yeah.
01:12:24I think that was Noah.
01:12:25I think that was Noah that said that.
01:12:26Last question.
01:12:27Yep.
01:12:28What's up?
01:12:30If the Warriors get them,
01:12:32are you suddenly scared of the Warriors?
01:12:34Yes.
01:12:35I think I'm already scared of the Warriors.
01:12:37Just like PTSD.
01:12:39I'm scared of the Warriors.
01:12:40So you,
01:12:41you add Jimmy Butler to that mix,
01:12:43a guy that's had a lot of success over the years against you as a South,
01:12:47you know,
01:12:48against the Celtics.
01:12:49You do not want to see the Warriors in the NBA finals with Jimmy Butler on
01:12:52the team,
01:12:53because that means they've had a lot of success this year and they are
01:12:56clicking on all cylinders.
01:12:57If you're seeing it in the NBA finals,
01:12:59honestly,
01:13:00that'd be an unbelievable NBA finals.
01:13:01It'd be so entertaining and probably break all the ratings records,
01:13:04but you would not feel as confident.
01:13:07If you're a Celtics fan,
01:13:09you would not feel as confident in that NBA finals as you would probably
01:13:12against any other team in the NBA.
01:13:14If it's against Jimmy Butler led Golden State Warriors.
01:13:18So to answer your question,
01:13:19Bobby, yes,
01:13:20I would be very afraid,
01:13:21but I would still take the Celtics.
01:13:23I don't want everyone to don't clip that and say that I'm picking the
01:13:25Warriors.
01:13:26Clip it,
01:13:27clip it right before that.
01:13:29Yeah,
01:13:30I completely,
01:13:31that's exactly what I was saying to Bobby the other day is that just,
01:13:33just thinking about Jimmy Butler and Steph Curry on the same team in the
01:13:35finals.
01:13:36Like I don't care about that.
01:13:37I don't care about the math.
01:13:38I don't know how it would actually work out as far as the assets they'd
01:13:40have to give up.
01:13:42You don't care about the math.
01:13:44You just lost a lot of nerd fans.
01:13:46You lost a lot of nerd fans.
01:13:47No.
01:13:48And the NBA,
01:13:49that's bad.
01:13:50There's a lot of them out there now.
01:13:51Sacrilegious.
01:13:52Bobby's pissed.
01:13:53Bobby's pissed.
01:13:55What are you,
01:13:56what are you looking at Bobby?
01:13:57You're like researching something over there.
01:13:58Looking at the chat,
01:13:59just reading it.
01:14:00I turned it off.
01:14:02It was distracting me too much.
01:14:03You can't,
01:14:04you can't look at this.
01:14:06I'm researching something.
01:14:07That's what they want.
01:14:08That's what they want.
01:14:09But yeah,
01:14:12I think,
01:14:13I think the,
01:14:14him going on the Warriors,
01:14:15that would be outrageous.
01:14:17They never go away.
01:14:18What's that trade again?
01:14:19What's that trade?
01:14:20Kamenga,
01:14:22Wiggins,
01:14:23Picks,
01:14:24some other smaller contracts.
01:14:26Kamenga.
01:14:27Wow.
01:14:28I like Kamenga more than Noah does.
01:14:30If you're the Warriors,
01:14:31you kind of do it,
01:14:32right?
01:14:33You,
01:14:34you,
01:14:35you take one last,
01:14:36one last hurrah here with Curry.
01:14:37Yeah.
01:14:38Well,
01:14:39that would be the step back for the heat.
01:14:40And then you're taking future Warriors picks back and saying,
01:14:42all right,
01:14:43when this whole Warriors thing's over,
01:14:44we're going to get their picks.
01:14:45I love this for the heat.
01:14:46I think this is such a great time to get some picks,
01:14:48get some players back that you can rebuild around.
01:14:51You can retool around the hero.
01:14:52Bam thing here has been really good this year.
01:14:54Bam's taking a weird step back.
01:14:55What's Bam got left for?
01:14:57Yeah.
01:14:58What's,
01:14:59what's the deal with Bam?
01:15:00He just signed a max extension,
01:15:01so he'll be there for a while.
01:15:02But something's up with him though.
01:15:05He's just not a little bit efficient this year.
01:15:08I think it's just the team around him.
01:15:10More pressure on him.
01:15:12He's never been a great offensive player.
01:15:14Remember those East finals,
01:15:15Jimmy,
01:15:16Rob was always shutting him down and he would just never hurt the Celtics all
01:15:19that much offensively.
01:15:20I think,
01:15:21no,
01:15:22he was going off on Rob once specifically.
01:15:24The bubble year,
01:15:25he killed them.
01:15:26Okay.
01:15:27The next two.
01:15:28He's still shooting this season.
01:15:30He's shooting 50,
01:15:3144% from the field for his career.
01:15:33He's 54.
01:15:34So that's pretty unusual to go down 10 percentage points.
01:15:37A guy like him.
01:15:38He's having shots.
01:15:40And the three never came around.
01:15:41You thought it might,
01:15:42he signed through 20,
01:15:4428.
01:15:45When he can opt out.
01:15:46So yeah,
01:15:48he's locked up there for a while.
01:15:50Real quick.
01:15:51Just,
01:15:52just on the heat on the Butler thing.
01:15:53He had a quote.
01:15:54I think it was yesterday.
01:15:55It says Jimmy Butler is not sweating a recent trade speculation.
01:15:59Quote.
01:16:00It doesn't bother me one bit and I do appreciate it.
01:16:02I appreciate going out there and hooping and I appreciate being efficient,
01:16:06being effective in helping my team win.
01:16:08I don't ever take playing basketball for anybody for granted.
01:16:11It's good to be talked about.
01:16:13I don't think there's such a thing as bad publicity to a point,
01:16:16but if somebody is talking about me getting traded,
01:16:19that's a lot.
01:16:20So kind of a mixed response there.
01:16:23Certainly didn't say anything along the lines of,
01:16:26I don't want to be traded or I want to stay in Miami or,
01:16:30you know,
01:16:31anything along those lines at all.
01:16:33Acknowledge that,
01:16:35you know,
01:16:36kind of likes,
01:16:37kind of likes hearing his name being talked about in the news.
01:16:40So I don't think it'll be the end of the,
01:16:43of the,
01:16:44of the Jimmy Butler new cycle.
01:16:45I think he is going to probably end up going somewhere.
01:16:47We'll find out where that is,
01:16:48but if it's anywhere out West,
01:16:50that just makes an already kind of weak East,
01:16:53even weaker.
01:16:54You've really got a couple of teams so far and as the seasons,
01:16:59how many,
01:17:00how many games in are we now?
01:17:0124.
01:17:02Yeah.
01:17:03Yeah.
01:17:04So,
01:17:05you know,
01:17:06almost a,
01:17:07almost a third of the way into the year here.
01:17:09And is anyone out East?
01:17:11We're going to,
01:17:12we're going to wrap it on this question.
01:17:1324 games,
01:17:14roughly in coming up on Christmas.
01:17:16This is around the time where you start to see who's real and who's
01:17:19not.
01:17:20I think,
01:17:21is there anybody in the East that scares you?
01:17:23And then we're going to,
01:17:24we're going to go around the horn.
01:17:25Then we're going to call it.
01:17:26Cause this is just one of those games where we can call it a,
01:17:30about the power 20 mark.
01:17:31So we know what we'll start with you.
01:17:33I mean,
01:17:34Cleveland's number one,
01:17:35it would be almost like unfair to say anybody else,
01:17:38but Milwaukee is a close second.
01:17:40I think they've just been so much better after that.
01:17:42Slow start.
01:17:43You believe in Milwaukee.
01:17:44No,
01:17:45she doesn't believe in Yannis.
01:17:46I do believe in Yannis.
01:17:48Everything has to be like,
01:17:51because I thought I said the Tatum is,
01:17:53is probably better than Yannis,
01:17:55which was my phrasing.
01:17:56I hate Yannis.
01:17:57Now.
01:17:58I love Yannis.
01:17:59I think he's a great player,
01:18:00but it's not,
01:18:01it's not always so extreme.
01:18:02It's not like,
01:18:03I don't know why it has to be that way.
01:18:04Because hashtag.
01:18:07I'm going to go bucks.
01:18:11I'm going to go back.
01:18:13Okay.
01:18:14So now she's overcompensating and she's saying,
01:18:15I'm not overcompensating.
01:18:17I think that the calves are super enticing.
01:18:21I don't know how they're going to handle the double big thing.
01:18:23When playoff time comes around and obviously the bucks have to get to the
01:18:27finish line,
01:18:28full health,
01:18:29the age thing is such a concern there,
01:18:31but Tatum's I think definitively better than Mitchell.
01:18:36And back to our conversation.
01:18:38Yeah,
01:18:39I would lean Yannis,
01:18:40but you know,
01:18:41Yannis Tatum's more of a toss up.
01:18:42And it's not quite what it used to be where the best player in our series is
01:18:45going to win it.
01:18:46I think it was a lot more about depth now and interchangeability and
01:18:50obviously sustaining an injury if that happens in a series.
01:18:53So I think all those things work in the Celtics favor,
01:18:56but they've had a tough time in Milwaukee in recent years.
01:18:59They trailed in all three games against Milwaukee to start this year.
01:19:02They're not playing them again this year,
01:19:04which is kind of weird and crazy,
01:19:05but they,
01:19:07they feel like they're inevitably going to meet in the,
01:19:10in the playoffs this time around.
01:19:11I think it will be a six,
01:19:13seven game grind.
01:19:14So I'm,
01:19:15I'm still sticking with them.
01:19:16I've always liked how they've played against the Celtics since they've
01:19:18gotten low.
01:19:19And I think they can get the amount of threes up that you need to.
01:19:21Yannis is just so forceful.
01:19:23You still have Horford to contain them to some degree,
01:19:26but I mean,
01:19:27I don't think we've given them enough credit Sherrod for how good he's been
01:19:29this year.
01:19:30He's averaging like 34 game.
01:19:31He's carrying that team.
01:19:33That's had guys in and out of the lineup and they started so bad and
01:19:36they've climbed their way back.
01:19:38So I,
01:19:39I am going to go Milwaukee.
01:19:40Yeah.
01:19:41I mean,
01:19:42that,
01:19:43that,
01:19:44that make,
01:19:45that makes a lot of sense,
01:19:46but none of the teams honestly scare me.
01:19:48Nobody.
01:19:49I'm,
01:19:50I'm,
01:19:51I'm,
01:19:52I'm,
01:19:53I'm taking a field.
01:19:54None of,
01:19:55no one in the field scares me.
01:19:56And here's why Cleveland,
01:19:58I think has certainly enough talent to push the Celtics,
01:20:03but the idea of their double bigs,
01:20:06which they play a lot of dealing with for zing is he's going to be a
01:20:09problem for them.
01:20:10They will be impacted by porzingis ability to stretch the floor more than
01:20:14any other top tier team in the Eastern conference.
01:20:17And that's,
01:20:18that's something that they really don't have a solution for this.
01:20:21So then you look at Milwaukee,
01:20:22they could be a problem because they they're part of the been there,
01:20:25done that crew.
01:20:26They know what it's like to defend an NBA championship.
01:20:29They know what it's like to try to just kind of chip away,
01:20:32chip away,
01:20:33chip away at the front runner.
01:20:36But I don't trust anyone on that team,
01:20:41not named Giannis or Dame and Dame is a problem because he can't defend
01:20:47teams,
01:20:48exploit the hell out of him because of that.
01:20:49And after those guys,
01:20:51no,
01:20:52I got Richard locking him down.
01:20:53If they,
01:20:54if these two teams meet,
01:20:55I got him in Pritchard picking up double texts.
01:20:58Yeah.
01:20:59I like that.
01:21:00I like they're going to,
01:21:01they're going to have at least one game in the best of seven where they both
01:21:04pick up a tech because Pritchard is not going to back down and Dame,
01:21:08Dame's are not going to back down from,
01:21:10from pitch.
01:21:11So I'm kind of leaning.
01:21:13I'm kind of leaning with Charlotte a little bit.
01:21:15I'm not,
01:21:16I'm not scared of any team.
01:21:17I do think I'm a little surprised.
01:21:18You're going to stand by your Knicks.
01:21:19I was getting to it.
01:21:21I will say this.
01:21:23I'm not as scared of the Knicks.
01:21:25I wasn't really scared of the Knicks,
01:21:27but I did think the Knicks would,
01:21:28you said they finished in first.
01:21:30I know.
01:21:31I did think the Knicks would come out of the gates a lot stronger than they
01:21:33did. They, they kind of stumbled out of the gates.
01:21:35I think they've started to figure it out a little bit more.
01:21:37And I do think they're going to be a tough team.
01:21:39Certainly to anybody in the playoffs,
01:21:41because they play,
01:21:42they play a physical brand of basketball.
01:21:44What I didn't know about the Knicks second in the league and field goal
01:21:47percentage first in the league.
01:21:50Well,
01:21:51second in the league and field goal percentage and tied for second in the
01:21:53league and three point field goal percentage.
01:21:55They just play a slower brand of basketball.
01:21:57So maybe that's something that will change.
01:22:03So at the course of the year,
01:22:04but there's still a lot of things to like about the Knicks.
01:22:07And again,
01:22:08that's a team that had to learn to play with each other,
01:22:11learn how to play with each other again,
01:22:13because they had that big trade that occurred right prior to the start of
01:22:16the season. So not counting the Knicks out yet,
01:22:19but I'm certainly not, I mean, I'm not sweating the Knicks,
01:22:23but I'm certainly not counting them out.
01:22:25And then the magic, nobody brought up the magic.
01:22:29Are they legit or are we hard to say with the two guys out?
01:22:33Yeah. And, and, you know, and Jonathan Isaac, when he's on,
01:22:37he's so damn good. Yeah. If he can stay on the court,
01:22:40if you say healthy, right. And, and you know,
01:22:42the team we haven't said anything about was Atlanta.
01:22:45They're just Atlanta. I tell you, I tell you what,
01:22:48Trey young, this is the best version of Trey young we've ever seen.
01:22:53Yeah. And they beat the Celtics.
01:22:56Without him, without him. So that's it.
01:23:01They don't scare me,
01:23:02but they do make me pause to acknowledge that they're in the building that
01:23:07they're decent team.
01:23:12Yeah. The Johnson kid is really good. Kind of coming into his own.
01:23:18They got some players. They got some players championship caliber. No,
01:23:22but they got some good players though. Definitely.
01:23:24They got some players. We got some players here.
01:23:28We're going to sign off.
01:23:29Bobby and Noah are going to finish up over there at the garden.
01:23:32Sherrod's going to get to bed. I'm going to do the same guys.
01:23:38Thanks for keeping up with us tonight. Staying up late.
01:23:40Happy Friday tomorrow. Everyone listening on the podcast.
01:23:44We got Spotify. We got Apple podcasts. We're going to,
01:23:48we have the show. If you're watching, if you, if you tune in late,
01:23:52catch the show on the CLNS YouTube network or on the Celtics CLNS YouTube
01:23:57network, we've got two networks going strong. Bobby and Noah,
01:24:00you guys cooking up anything that we should know about?
01:24:04Yeah. We have a video to come.
01:24:06We just did a podcast the other day that's pretty evergreen.
01:24:09So check that out and a new Pritchard video out about his first in the
01:24:16stardom. We did a storytelling video the other day over at the studio.
01:24:20So a lot of good stuff up at the channel right now.
01:24:22And obviously we'll be back at practice in the morning and I am going to shoot
01:24:26down the DC Sunday and catch up. Yeah. I can't resist.
01:24:31Wow. My favorite cities.
01:24:36One of my, one of my, one of my favorite cities too.
01:24:38It bums me out that the team there stinks that bad.
01:24:42Not me.
01:24:45Someone's got to stink in the NBA. At least they're consistent.
01:24:49There's winners and there's losers. Not here. We're all winners.
01:24:54They're bigger loser than most for Noah, Bobby Sherrod, Jimmy,
01:24:58for John, who's probably in the fourth stage of REM sleep by now.
01:25:04We're going to say peace out. I think this is the outro.
01:25:07Unless Jackson hit me with the outro.
01:25:10No one's sneaking a vegan brownie by me. I'll tell you that.
01:25:14You have to feel that way too, Bobby.
01:25:15I have to feel that way.
01:25:17Slide out over and make Luke your first center.
01:25:20Bobby, we gave you Luke hour earlier.
01:25:22We're not going to end this on a damn conversation about Luke.
