00:33Before we get to the Cardinals matchup, Gregg, let's start with some news around the league
00:37today, and we begin with Denver.
00:41Of course, the Patriots are likely to be looking for a left tackle this offseason.
00:47I think we talked about this a few weeks ago.
00:51The fact that there are some good names that would be available, at least when we talk
00:57about those names, they were available.
01:00Jacksonville, a re-sign there, left tackle, extended him.
01:04Forget his name.
01:05It's like Walker Little or something along those lines.
01:08And then today, we find out that Denver extends Garrett Bowles.
01:13Just your thoughts on Bowles getting extended and how challenging this is going to be for
01:18the Patriots to find that guy.
01:20Yeah, I think that's a sneaky, huge move, Nick.
01:25I thought of all the guys potentially available on the market, a guy who could plug and play
01:32and play left tackle and maybe free you up to do whatever at the top of the draft, whether
01:38it's Hunter from Colorado or an edge rusher like Abdul Carter from Penn State or what
01:44have you.
01:48When you look at the list of potential free agents, well, first of all, the number one
01:53guy on the list is Ronnie Stanley from the Ravens.
01:55Yep.
01:56Chances of him getting the market are like 1%.
02:03He's had some availability issues, but he's been one of the best left tackles in the game.
02:09I don't think the Ravens really have another path, so Ronnie Stanley's definitely going
02:14back.
02:16Garrett Bowles would be the next guy at the Broncos.
02:19He's a step below Ronnie Stanley, but he's a good, solid left tackle.
02:24Him being 33 years old this year, you thought, all right, maybe the Broncos say, all right,
02:30it's time to move on, that sort of thing.
02:34I thought the chances were decent that Bowles was going to get the market.
02:38Maybe they could have franchise tagged him or done that sort of thing.
02:43Now that he's re-upped, now you're down to Cam Robinson, who was traded from the Jaguars
02:51to the Vikings.
02:52He's been playing okay for them, that they made a trade for him.
02:57You probably think they're going to try hard to re-up him, even though I think they've
03:01had injuries.
03:02That's kind of why they needed him.
03:05Maybe he's available.
03:06I don't think he's any great shakes, but when you're where you are with the Patriots, he's
03:11an option.
03:14Probably the big one to watch is DJ Humphries, who just signed with the Chiefs.
03:21I don't know if he's played for them yet or he's about to play for them.
03:24I think this is the first week.
03:25I want to jump in.
03:26He played.
03:27He tried to play.
03:28He hurt his hamstring.
03:30The last I saw was he was getting an MRI on the hamstring.
03:34Wonderful.
03:37There were a lot of Patriots fans who were mad when DJ Humphries, he was coming back
03:42from an ACL, something like that, a serious injury.
03:46He was finally declared healthy.
03:51He ended up signing with the Chiefs.
03:52A lot of Patriots fans were mad.
03:54Why didn't the Patriots do that?
03:55Why didn't they offer him a lot of money?
03:57Why didn't they go to two years?
04:00You just look at it from DJ's perspective.
04:02You're just coming back.
04:05Ideally, you hook on with a team that's good, that goes on a deep playoff run.
04:11You get to showcase yourself in the postseason.
04:14Now, all of a sudden, you're the number one guy on the free agent market.
04:17Why limit yourself to a two-year deal when there's no tackles available in free agency?
04:26Why not bet on yourself?
04:28We'll have to see with the injury what happens there.
04:32This is the problem, Nick.
04:35This was a lot of my frustrations with Belichick.
04:38It was part of my frustration with Elliot Wolfe, not being a little bit more aggressive,
04:43trying to take a tackle, say, in the second round or trading up, targeting a guy.
04:49Look, none of those guys have been any great shakes other than there was a third-rounder
04:55who has started and played well.
04:57Yeah, Brendan Coleman.
04:59Yeah, Brendan Coleman.
05:01I think that's for the commanders.
05:03And, you know, so you just, if you leave yourself vulnerable, especially at left tackle in this
05:12league, there's not going to be many options on the free agent market.
05:15You have to draft and you have to develop.
05:19And this goes back to Belichick.
05:22It's not just a Wolfe thing.
05:23This goes back to years where I was standing on the table for them to take a tackle high
05:27up in the draft, don't want to keep doing the Trent Brown thing over and over again.
05:32And now here they are.
05:33And I think we'll see what happens in free agency.
05:36Obviously, free agency happens before the draft, but if they don't get a legitimate
05:43starter at left tackle in free agency, you're going to have to go tackle high in the draft.
05:50And whether that means trading down or just staying and picking the best guy there, whether
05:55it's Will Cooper or Will Campbell or Kelvin Banks from Texas or the Ohio state kid who
06:03came out, like they're going to, they're probably going to have to go that route anyways.
06:08You're probably going to have to sign somebody and go that draft route.
06:11But you know, free, if you're, if you're long story short, Nick, if you're banking on free
06:17agency for the Patriots to solve their tackle problems, especially at left tackle, then
06:23I think it's a pipe dream.
06:25So DJ Humphries made it through 86% of the snaps.
06:29He left midway through the fourth quarter with the hammy and he did not practice yesterday.
06:34So he was a DMP yesterday.
06:36The free agent that I'm looking at and I think is going to be available certainly is a Wills
06:44from Cleveland.
06:45I he's, he's had a bad year.
06:46I get it.
06:48And he's had a little bit of a back and forth with the front office and coaching staff out
06:52there in Cleveland, but he was picked high in the first round, has a lot of talent is
06:58still young and hello, he's been in Cleveland, Alex van Pelt, Scott Peters.
07:06It would certainly make a lot of sense to say, all right, let's, let's try to sign that guy.
07:11It might not solve the problem, which is obviously an issue.
07:15It's a little bit of a lottery ticket because how he's played and he's had some injuries,
07:19but again, he's got a lot of potential.
07:21And if Peters and van Pelt, as long as they're still on the staff are looking at it, they
07:26could say, we think we can get something out of him.
07:29So I'm keeping an eye on Wills because I do think he will get to the market because of
07:33that relationship he's had with the organization.
07:36So well, I mean, yeah, I mean, well, it's a good point by you.
07:41I think it's safe to say that we'll, we'll know what Alex van Pelt and Scott Peters think
07:46about Jedrick Wills, depending on whether they sign them or not.
07:49I mean, if they think he's, he's the guy and has talent and won't be a problem and
07:54it's coachable and all that stuff.
07:56Yeah, it totally makes sense that they would go all in on a guy like that.
08:00As far as how Elliot Wolfe handled the tackle position, uh, look, I know this is going to
08:06trigger some people.
08:07I couldn't care less if, if we want to try to play Monday morning quarterback, Greg mentioned
08:13it.
08:14The fact is none of those guys are playing well.
08:16Uh, Roger Rosengarten is playing well.
08:18He's playing.
08:19Okay.
08:20He's playing right.
08:21Tackle.
08:22Brandon Coleman is playing left tackle for Washington and he's been better than Vidarian
08:25low.
08:26If you go by pro football focus.
08:28Um, but all the other guys that were drafted in the second round, they've been bad, if
08:33not downright awful to the point where Kingsley, who is a guy that Greg and I talked about
08:38and many others talked about, he's been so bad that they went out and they signed Humphries
08:44and before they signed Humphries, they tried Morris and Morris didn't work out.
08:49They went to city, got to the point where they were playing Joe Tooney at left tackle.
08:52That's how bad is right now.
08:55So, um, uh, it's not like there was a magic elixir and the Patriots tried to trade up
09:01for Guyton and Guyton mentioned that in the post-draft pest, uh, press conference in Dallas.
09:07He said that the Patriots try to move up in the first round and draft him.
09:11That's what he was told by his agent and Guyton's been terrible for Dallas.
09:16And if you look at, if you look at Rosengarten and Coleman, there are a couple of similarities.
09:21Who are the quarterbacks playing for those two teams?
09:24Lamar Jackson, Jaden Daniels.
09:25Do you think that helps the tackle position when you have those two athletes in the pocket?
09:29I do.
09:30The offensive lines for both of those teams are also pretty damn good.
09:34They're, they're both in the top 10 to 15 when you look at, you know, past protection
09:38composite rankings, I do believe.
09:40And so you can send extra help to those rookies.
09:44So to say that Roger Rosengarten, again, he's playing right tackle.
09:48If you plop them in here, well, what does Caden Wallace look like?
09:52We don't know because he hasn't played enough yet.
09:54Hopefully he's back this weekend.
09:55It's perfectly reasonable to believe that Wallace could be as good as Rosengarten is.
10:00And as far as Coleman on the left side, I don't know if you could put Brandon Coleman
10:05in this situation, starting the year with Jacoby Brissett and the rest of this banged
10:09up offensive line.
10:10I think a lot of people are focused on left tackle and I understand why.
10:14I don't think left tackle has been the biggest problem.
10:17I don't think it's been close.
10:19I think left guard was an abomination.
10:22And I think a winnow at right tackle was terrible.
10:25And the flip-flopping, a winnow has gotten better the last few weeks.
10:29But it's really been about the interior of the offensive line and Jordan falling off
10:33the rails and getting released.
10:35But Darian Lowe has played at a level.
10:37Has he played at a starter's level?
10:40Probably not.
10:41If you look at the PFF rankings and stuff like that and the grades.
10:44But he's just outside.
10:45I think he's ranked 65th in the league.
10:47There's 64 tackles playing right now.
10:49So I mean, it's not like there was an answer there.
10:53Tyron Smith's on the IR.
10:55That was the biggest issue.
10:56Greg and I talked about it.
10:58Injury history.
10:59He didn't last with the Jets.
11:01So I mean, we can go through it.
11:03Jonah Williams we'll see this weekend, but he's playing on the right side and he just
11:07got off the IR in late November.
11:09So I'm not trying to excuse Elliot Wolfe.
11:12What I'm just, I would ask people is what was your answer?
11:16Because the answers that people just throw out there against the wall, guess what?
11:20They haven't been good.
11:22So this is more about, to me, what, what you mentioned, Greg, four or five years of just
11:28ignoring the position in the draft and continuing to draft interior offensive line and believing
11:35in Trent Brown and, and trying to patch this thing together.
11:39They should have drafted a tackle three, four years ago.
11:41They thought they had one and when they swung and missed on that pick in the first round.
11:46And so this is what you're left with.
11:48The highest drafted tackle in years for this team was could just be all the tackles they've
11:56taken the last four or five years outside of Kate and Wallace.
11:59You're looking at fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh round got like the easiest way to get a tackle
12:05in the league is drafting in the first round, plain and simple, that that's, that's how
12:09you have the best shot at landing a guy who's bona fide speaking of the offensive line.
12:14Yeah.
12:15Nick, one thing on that, I just want to mention, you know, because I do get the Kings Kingsley
12:19Sue on my tie, like thrown in my face a lot.
12:23You know, it wasn't when we talked about it, the idea we, those guys that were, you know,
12:29second round, third round, like they're drafted there for a reason.
12:33They're not drafted.
12:34You're not, you don't draft starters in the second and third round.
12:37I mean, on most teams, like the idea was what kind of potential does this guy have?
12:43And you get them, you get them in the system.
12:45And that's why, you know, I, and I've always believed this and I believe this even more
12:51with the lack of development that we see with college offensive linemen.
12:57I've always believed that unless you're talking about like a top 10 pick, you know, I think
13:05it's incumbent upon, you have to have, it's almost like developing a quarterback.
13:09It's almost the same thing.
13:10Like you have to have a plan, you have to have a progression plan.
13:14And I, you know, from the teams, teams that I've covered just from, you know, the Packers,
13:18whether it was Brian Bulaga or the Patriots with Nate Solder, like those guys, when they
13:25drafted them and Nate Solder was like a middle of the first round pick, like, you know, we're
13:30not talking about a second round pick, you know, they brought him in, Matt Light was
13:34still there.
13:35The thought was, we'll bring him in, he'll play right tackle, we'll teach him, we'll
13:39progress.
13:40And then he'll take over on the left side to, to throw a lot of these second and third
13:45rounders in at left tackle and expect them to swim to me is just unrealistic.
13:51So it's incumbent upon the team to have, whether you bring in veterans in free agency,
13:57whatever you can squeeze, whatever you can out of them, but to give these guys time,
14:02because to, to, to develop offensive tackles outside the top half of the first round, it's
14:08going to be a two, three year process.
14:12And so you have to have a plan, you, you plug and play some of these guys.
14:16I mean, Patrick Paul in Miami has been a disaster.
14:19You, you're just, it's, it's not a winning formula.
14:22So drafting and developing at the tackle position are incumbent.
14:27And I do think Elliot Wolfe believes in that.
14:29I think, you know, the, like I said, the Packers practiced that.
14:33I do think the Caden Wallace thing was, you know, ideally he said when they drafted him,
14:39we think he has some, the potential to play left tackle, but I think, you know, they really
14:43wanted to go probably to right tackle initially and then figure things out.
14:49So I think that's, that's an important part of the process.
14:52And to reinforce your point there, I just pulled it up.
14:56I do this research every, every quarter of the NFL season, just to keep up the work,
15:02because I want to be a man of my word and pay attention to Vidarian Lowe versus these
15:06other tackle options.
15:08And to reinforce your point, I mean, this is after week 13.
15:12So this doesn't account for last week, but this was after week 13, Patrick Paul had a
15:17hundred snaps of football this year.
15:19Blake Fisher had 114, Suamata Ia had 164.
15:24The two guys who have played the best, Rosengarten has 679 and Coleman has 521.
15:31And if you compared that with Vidarian Lowe, Lowe had 605.
15:34So you know, those guys, Patrick Paul, Blake Fisher, Suamata Ia, those teams are not rolling
15:40those guys out as starters.
15:42They're barely getting any snaps this year.
15:44So they're hibernating, so to speak.
15:47And I know some people will say, yeah, but Nick, if they drafted a tackle last year,
15:52then, then you'd have them developed and blah, blah.
15:54Number one, we don't know if that guy would have developed.
15:57We don't know if he would have developed and been ready by year two in 2025.
16:01And also here's the good news.
16:04The Patriots have another draft coming up and they have two third round picks and they're
16:08going to be, you know, pretty high in the first round and second round.
16:13So they will have an opportunity to draft a young tackle in this upcoming draft.
16:17I also think the Jalen Polk season, he's been an absolute bust to this point.
16:22That makes people even more angry because they go, ah, you wasted the pick on Jalen
16:25Polk.
16:26And I think if they drafted Ladd McConkie, who by the way was hurt last week, um, not
16:31to say he hasn't been good.
16:32He's been really good.
16:33But one of the questions was his frame and is he going to be able to hold up in the NFL?
16:37And I, you know, he was out this past week, so keep an eye on that.
16:41But if Ladd McConkie was here and he was putting up the numbers, you know, that he's putting
16:45up out there with the chargers here in new England, I don't think there would be as much
16:50bitching about the idea of, of drafting poke and not drafting a tackle in the second round.
16:55Uh, one quick thing before we get to, uh, uh, your, your fine words about prize picks
17:00this week, I did want to ask you, uh, getting ready for this weekend.
17:05Speaking of the offensive line, what would you do with Cole strange, Greg, because he's
17:10off the PUP.
17:11Uh, it sounds like he's going to play.
17:14I know that Mayo said, well, he could play guard.
17:16He could play center and Mayo did not sound, um, excuse me, did not sound like he was keen
17:23on the idea of, of a rotation.
17:26What would you do?
17:27It's strange.
17:28Uh, it's a good question.
17:31Um, you know, I, I, I'm really leery of messing with Drake may at this point, which goes to,
17:42you know, do you put strange at center?
17:45Do you rotate them in with Ben Brown?
17:48Um, you know, I think you're, I think that's asking a lot.
17:52I think, uh, I would probably, uh, try to get him possibly a series at left guard at
18:02some point in each half and sort of go from there, see how it looks, but I I'd be really
18:09leery of throwing him out there.
18:10I mean, I think, you know, Leighton Robinson, uh, you know, it wasn't great, but it was
18:16okay.
18:17And he, he, he has shown some promise.
18:19Um, I I'm fine with Ben Brown.
18:22I think he's been rock solid at center.
18:24It's is a great no, but I do think that left guard, once Michael Jordan went off sort of
18:30a cliff, uh, four or five games in the season, I think that left guard has been there, their
18:35biggest problem area.
18:37And so, um, I'm probably rotating him with Leighton Robinson in this game.
18:41I would take it slow.
18:43Uh, but I, I really do not want to introduce a new center to Drake may on the road, um,
18:51where the Patriots, their line, bad lines, don't travel.
18:54The Patriots line has not traveled well this year.
18:58Uh, I I'm not messing with that.
19:01You and I agree on that 100% sir.

20:26up at North Carolina.
20:28Well today's podcast is, Hey, Bill Belichick ended up in North Carolina.
20:32He's about five minutes away from doing a press conference down there with the media.
20:36Greg, your reaction to Belichick going to UNC, this becoming official and also your
20:42guy, Mike Lombardi being the GM of the program.
20:45Um, you know, I guess my reaction is a little, uh, I'm a little melancholy.
20:52I'm a little sad about it.
20:54I mean, you know, number one is sort of selfish.
20:58I mean, Bill Belichick being back in the league and comparing what he's doing to what the
21:03Patriots and Mayo are doing.
21:06Like that stuff would be like too delicious.
21:08It would give us so much content the whole year.
21:12Now he's at Chapel Hill.
21:13I mean, who gives a crap?
21:15Um, you know, I'm sure he'll do fine there.
21:18I know he has big plans for what he's going to do.
21:21I like how he's setting things up.
21:23I think he's going to borrow from Dion where Dion doesn't do the glad handing that, that,
21:28uh, other coaches have to do.
21:30I'll be interested to hear if he does a weekly radio show.
21:33Uh, that was always classic with Nick Saban.
21:36Nick Saban even had that with the dolphins and like, he used to have a media guest every
21:40week, including I was there a couple of times with Nick Saban at a sports bar taking
21:46questions.
21:47So that was always interesting.
21:49Uh, I can't see Belichick doing that.
21:51Um, you know, but look, I I'm glad I'm happy for Bill.
21:57You know, he, he wants back into the game.
21:58There's been some reporting, uh, especially from Wickersham.
22:02He must be like, can I, can I get off the Belichick beat now?
22:05Like he's not even in the league anymore.
22:07Um, you know, that bill was, you know, really frustrated with the NFL and with these
22:13owners and, you know, you know, some of the, uh, you know, veiled shots, uh, at people
22:18who passed on them from people like Michael Lombardi, you know, the, his latest was he
22:22went after, uh, Tony Kahn, the, the son of the Jaguars owner.
22:28And so, you know, I, I think the NFL is stupid.
22:32I think he should be in the NFL.
22:33I think Bill, Bill has brought a lot of this on himself because nobody, he's too
22:38much of a control freak and nobody thinks that 73 that he's going to relinquish that.
22:43Uh, everybody knew he'd come in and try to dominate things.
22:46So I think, you know, people are afraid of that.
22:48Uh, but, uh, I think he'll do fine.
22:51I mean, you know, I know the failures of the world are like, you know, North
22:54Carolina, it's not even like a real program, but the way the landscape
22:57is now, I mean, the ACC just got two teams into the playoffs.
23:01You're telling me Bill can't get into the playoffs next year with the transfer
23:05portal and what have you, and then you get into one game situations.
23:08Uh, I like his chances, uh, but bummed.
23:11He's not going to be in the NFL, but I'm glad he's going to be still coaching.
23:17I'm not sad for Bill Belichick.
23:19I don't know why people are sad or disappointed.
23:22Or my guy, Greg says, melancholy.
23:25I'm not sad.
23:26I'm not melancholy.
23:28Uh, from Belichick's perspective, the man won six
23:32championships here in new England.
23:34He has won what eight super bowls in total as a coach at the NFL level.
23:38His legacy is rock solid.
23:41Nothing is happening to it.
23:42It's safe.
23:43It's secure.
23:44He will go down as the goat.
23:47Uh, also this is by Belichick's making folks.
23:53Yeah.
23:55He wanted a job on his terms.
23:58And I know that the Wickersham story says, you know, Bill didn't want full
24:01control and he told the Falcons that he didn't want full control.
24:04But Wickersham also says, yeah, teams knew that wasn't reality.
24:08It wasn't likely because once Bill gets in the building, Bill's in the building
24:11and he's going to want to do things his way.
24:13And I agree with that.
24:15He gets to do that North Carolina.
24:17They're following his 400 page organizational Bible or whatever
24:21the hell they called it.
24:22Right?
24:23So he's getting exactly what he wants.
24:25The rumors are that they're going to get $20 million in NIL money.
24:29I know there's not a lot of college football fans here in new England, but
24:32trust me, $20 million for NIL money is huge money.
24:36It's like Ohio state kind of money.
24:38So he's going to be able to go into this transfer portal and grab some
24:43of the best, the best with just the money that he has to offer.
24:46I'm not sad.
24:47I'm not sad for Belichick.
24:49I'm actually happy as a Patriots fan.
24:52I covered the team obviously.
24:54Um, but the fan in me, I'm actually very happy with this because I didn't
25:01want Bill to go to another NFL team.
25:03I didn't want to see him wearing another hoodie.
25:05It would have felt weird to me.
25:07And there was always the possibility, if not probability, that he would go to
25:11another team and fail, and that would have been sad, what would have been
25:15sad is Belichick trying to hang on here in the NFL, not getting to do it his
25:21in failing and then just kind of leaving the league at 75 years old with, you
25:26know, slumped shoulders and then just kind of walking out of the league.
25:30Like he gets to, he gets to end it and say, all right, my last job
25:34was with the new England Patriots.
25:36We had two dynasties.
25:37We had 20 incredible years.
25:39We won six championships.
25:41I get to coach the greatest player of all time and it ends the chapter.
25:45It's just, it's a very clean ending to me, which I think is better.
25:49And yes, from a content standpoint, him coaching elsewhere would have been great,
25:53but me personally on a selfish level, I'm happy about this and I will be rooting
25:57for him, not when they play Notre Dame, but I will be rooting for Bill Belichick
26:01to win as many games as possible with North Carolina.
26:04I want to see him right off into the sunset as a victorious head coach,
26:08whether it was in the NFL or at college.
26:10I'll take either.
26:12All right, let's get to the Cardinals matchup.
26:15Arizona, Greg has lost three games in a row.
26:18So I ask you what's gone wrong.
26:22Well, in the last couple of games, um, they've been really sloppy and
26:27Kyler Murray has two interceptions in, uh, in those, in the last two losses,
26:32he has five interceptions in the last three games.
26:36Um, but you know, you gotta look at the context and you gotta
26:41look at who they're playing.
26:43The Latin, the three game losing streak that they're, they're
26:45riding in this game on.
26:48Um, two of them were against the Seahawks, a divisional team
26:51that they played in three weeks.
26:53Um, so we're talking about teams that know each other the best.
26:57That's why I emphasize division games and how they, you know, should be close.
27:01Um, the other team was the Vikings, uh, and, and you look at their
27:05losses overall this season.
27:07So you have those three, they've lost to the Bills, the Lions,
27:10the commanders and the Packers.
27:11I mean, those are all playoff teams, like all, you know, really good teams that
27:16have a chance to go deep in the playoffs.
27:19So, you know, we're not talking about losses to like Jacksonville and
27:23Indianapolis, I guess it would be a good, good loss for the Patriots, but
27:27we're talking about, they've lost the legit teams.
27:30Um, so when you look at like DVOA and other, other measures,
27:34like they're not a bad team.
27:36They're sort of like a middle of the league type team.
27:38But the, you know, the, the big thing, uh, you know, over the past couple
27:43of games is they've had a lot of penalties.
27:44They had like four or five holding penalties.
27:47Um, again, in this latest game against the Seahawks, they had another
27:51nine penalties, um, against the Vikings.
27:55Um, what are the, the Patriots?
27:57Is this, is this going to be like, is this going to be a seven hour
27:59game on Sunday with 155 flags?
28:03It could very well be, but I, you know, my, my overarching view of the
28:08Cardinals is, um, don't sleep on them because of their record or their
28:13three game losing streak, because, uh, this team is not bad.
28:17I do think the Patriots have some matchup advantages in this game, but,
28:22uh, like this is, this is another one of those like step up in competitions.
28:27I would say they're a little bit better than the Colts.
28:29Um, so this is going to be a battle
28:34Cardinals offense versus Patriots defense.
28:36Talk to the people.
28:38Yeah.
28:38I don't like this matchup at all.
28:39Um, I really don't.
28:41I mean, look, the name of the game is going to have to be, you have
28:44to get pressure on Kyler Murray.
28:46Um, he he's been sort of bottom third of the league against pressure.
28:51Actually his stats are very errors.
28:53PFF grade is like just above Drake may they're like right next to each other.
28:57Um, and he, you know, he's really strong in the past couple of weeks, all of
29:02his interceptions have come against pressure.
29:04They don't give up a ton of pressure.
29:05It's usually around 30% or a little bit less, but it's the Patriots
29:11have to get pressure on Kyler Murray.
29:13They have to keep them in the pocket.
29:15They have to put pressure on them and just rush them a little bit.
29:17Can they do that?
29:18I don't know.
29:19I think it's a big question, Mark.
29:20I mean, I think they're going to need, they're going to need huge games
29:23from the edge guys, which Keon white, Anthony Jennings in Gawk way.
29:28Uh, those guys are gonna have to have killer games.
29:30And I do think if there was any time for Christian bar more, especially
29:34coming off a bi-week you've played a few weeks, it's a bi-week to rest up.
29:40If there was ever a game for bar more to announce his presence with authority
29:45to reintroduce himself to everybody.
29:47Um, this would be the game.
29:49Otherwise this Cardinals offense is a freaking pain in the ass.
29:54I mean, they, they will go out there.
29:56They run three tight ends out there, including a blocker.
29:59Tip Ryman was a guy in my redraft after the Patriots draft.
30:03I wanted them to get as sort of a blocking tight end, help
30:07out the tackle type of guy.
30:09Uh, they'll roll.
30:10They roll, uh, 13 personnel with three tight ends, um, out there more
30:14than anybody else in the league.
30:16They run a lot of 12 personnel, a lot.
30:18It'll be interesting to see how the Patriots match up to that.
30:21Do they bring in linebackers?
30:23Is it just safeties?
30:25Um, because that it keys, they're running game, they're running game.
30:29James Connor is one of the best running backs in the league.
30:32They run a lot of power.
30:34They run a lot of, you know, all sorts of stuff that the
30:36Patriots have issues with.
30:37And then you have, you know, their passing game, Trey McBride
30:40at tight end is really good.
30:42A frequent target or Kyler Murray, Marvin Harrison jr.
30:45On the outside.
30:46Of course, Dorch is a good re speed receiver, um, that
30:51can sneak down the field.
30:53I think this presents a lot of problems for the Patriots, but they have to, I
30:57expect the Cardinals to get back to, we have to be a run first team because
31:01if they can stay ahead of the chains, sort of like the Patriots, if they can
31:06avoid the, the, the flags stay ahead of the chains, run the ball, that offense
31:13with the play action and pulling people is a pain in the rear end.
31:16And I don't, the Patriots do not react well to this stuff.
31:20And so, uh, that's a big matchup in this game.
31:25Demarcus Covington, I think is going to be happy about this matchup.
31:28Uh, if, if they can be effective at all against the run, because we know
31:36Covington loves to blitz and the only way the Patriots get pressure in 2024 is by
31:42blitzing Kyler Murray has been absolutely atrocious against the blitz.
31:47So that's your key to victory right there.
31:50If, if you can slow down that downhill run game and you can put them in a
31:57tough situation on third down and blitz and get some pressure, Murray is not good
32:03enough to, to just do it all by himself.
32:06If you can get the pressure on him, it's also one of those, like,
32:09you know, you got to trap them.
32:11And Covington said that about Anthony Richardson.
32:13And as we know, the Patriots did a not so good job of trapping Anthony Richardson.
32:18But if you can, if you can keep Murray in that pocket, we all know
32:22when he was getting drafted, the big question was his size.
32:25He's not great with bodies around him and you can bother him because he can't
32:29see above the traffic at all times.
32:31So you got to keep him trapped.
32:33You got to blitz them.
32:34If you have opportune times to do so, you got to send the blitz at him.
32:39And I do think he'll have some issues, but if the Patriots can't stop the run,
32:43none of that will freaking matter.
32:45All right.
32:45Before we get to the Cardinals defense against the Patriots
32:47offense, Greg, tell us about game time.
32:51Nick, some of my favorite memories of my childhood are going to games,
32:55especially football games.
32:56I've been to the Orange Bowl.
32:57I've been a pro player.
32:58I've been to Foxborough stadium.
33:01I've been all over the place with my dad, my brothers, and my mom.
33:05And to get that kind of sensation, that kind of memory, you got to be there.
33:11You got to go to these games in person and to get there,
33:14you got to check out game time.
33:15Game time picks filters out all the fluff to show you all the incredible
33:18deals on great seats.
33:19So you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets.
33:22Love the all in pricing toggling.
33:24This feature shows the total upfront with no surprise fees at checkout.
33:28They have the panoramic view from your seat in the app before you buy.
33:31I have to do that every time you want to see Drake may you want to see Justin
33:35Herbert, maybe a little bit of a shootout in a couple of weeks.
33:38Uh, I just saw on game time.
33:40You could sit in the lower bowl and the hundreds in really good seats, like
33:43in the middle of the field for 163 bucks all in.
33:48If you just want to get in the stadium, you're talking like
33:5040 or 50 bucks over at game time.
33:53Uh, I also just used it for concert tickets with my wife
33:56and she's still talking about it.
33:58We had such a great experience and had awesome seats.
34:00Thanks to game time.

34:12What time is it?
34:13Game time.
34:14Belichick has stepped to the podium.
34:15The first thing he said was big crowd.
34:20So there you go.
34:21Cracking jokes, Billy, Billy, the joke maker.
34:24Um, by the way, if you're wondering, like part of this for North Carolina, before
34:29we get back to the Arizona game coming up this Sunday is obviously what he
34:33does for the brand, so to speak.
34:35And NFL network is covering this press conference.
34:41Uh, NBC sports, Boston is covering it.
34:4498 five is covering it.
34:46I'm sure many other, uh, radio stations and TV stations are
34:50covering this press conference.
34:51So just the first day, the first day on campus, and everybody
34:57is talking about UNC football.
34:59That ain't happening.
35:00If it's Tommy Reese, who reportedly was going to be the next man up.
35:04If Belichick didn't take the gig, who Tommy Rhea, who Tommy Reese, what
35:09he played quarterback for Notre Dame years ago, didn't he?
35:11Isn't that, isn't that the offensive coordinator that Nick wanted to kill?
35:16Yeah.
35:16Yeah.
35:17That's him.
35:17That's the guy that's, he would drive Nick cattle's crazy.
35:20Watching Notre Dame football when he was the OC drive him nuts.
35:24Um, anyway, back to Cardinals Patriots, you said the, uh, Cardinals offense was
35:30a tough matchup for the Patriots defense.
35:32How do you feel about the Cardinals defense against this Patriots offense?
35:36Love it.
35:37If, if we get a bit, a little bit of a refreshed Ramondre Stevenson
35:42coming back from the bi-week, if he sort of straightens out what he's been going
35:45through in his little three game slump, of course they have Antonio Gibson, uh,
35:49who sort of watching Zach Charbonnet of the Seahawks go through this Cardinals
35:53defense, uh, reminded me a little bit of Gibson, you know, hits
35:57the holes a little bit harder.
35:59Um, you know, the, the, the Seahawks really used a lot of gap scheme to
36:04expose the Cardinals, uh, on the ground.
36:07They've had a tough time in recent weeks, like five yards of
36:10carry four and a half yards of carry.
36:12You know, our, our, is Van Pelt going to take advantage of that?
36:15Or is he going to do, you know, more wide zone stuff?
36:18You know, what's he going to do?
36:19But I think I love this for two reasons.
36:21You can run on the Cardinals.
36:23They're very small upfront, um, in the line backing core.
36:27They are fast.
36:28Um, you know, so I think that the Patriots can, they should have the ability.
36:33Everybody's running the Cardinals.
36:35They should have the ability to do that.
36:36Also, the Cardinals play a crap ton of zone coverage.
36:40You know, we talked about it with the Colts and the Rams,
36:44Drake Mays, two best games.
36:47Uh, those are two of the highest zone percentage teams.
36:50The Cardinals are right there.
36:51They're like right, right behind the Colts in terms of amount
36:56of zone coverage that they play.
36:58Um, for those two things now, you know, have to run the ball.
37:03And then the other thing that Drake's got to worry about in this
37:07game is where's Buddha Baker.
37:10You gotta keep an eye on Buddha Baker.
37:12You've got to know where he is.
37:14He's the type of guy that can ruin things, come out of nowhere, get an
37:17interception, get a blind, blindside sack, strip sack type of thing.
37:22So, uh, but I do, I really like the potential for the Patriots
37:27offense and Drake May in this game to keep rolling.
37:30I love the prospect of Drake May getting a bi-week to recharge and dig into a
37:34little bit more film on the Cardinals.
37:36I think he's going to be dialed in.
37:37I think we have the potential for a shootout in this game.
37:41Nick, one of those crazy Patriots Cardinals games that we've seen in the past.
37:46And, uh, yeah, I'm not impressed with the Cardinals on defense.
37:50They're way too small.
37:50They have no pass rushers either.
37:51There's no pass rush.
37:53They don't have a single pass rusher, whether it's edge or interior defensive
37:59line, they do not have a single one in the top 20 for pass rush win rate.
38:03Uh, I think that's the first time this year, the Patriots have faced a team
38:06that doesn't have any guys listed in that statistic, they have not been able
38:10to get pressure and, uh, they try to get pressure with, you know, the, the stuff
38:16that we've talked about, creeper schemes and, and simulated pressure and all of
38:20that, and they will throw a number of, you know, cover zero blitzes as well.
38:25If, if they find the right time, the advantageous time to do so.
38:29So they will play some games up front, which means the communication has to
38:33be sharp for the Patriots offensive line.
38:35But you know, what you mentioned about Drake may and how he's played so well
38:40against zone, you know, that really is Greg to me, kind of the magic about
38:47Drake may what he's been able to do early on through his first, what is it
38:51now? Eight starts or whatever is he really does force teams to play zone
38:56because when, when teams play man, he absolutely murders them with his legs.
39:01Now, eventually, you know, you might start having a spy on him, but even if
39:05you do that, he he's shown that he can get by that guy.
39:09So it's, it's really a tough spot for defenses because if you play man, you're
39:15going to give up those scrambles.
39:16You're going to give up pivotal third downs.
39:19And you know, if you play zone, a lot of people thought, Hey, four straight may
39:24to be patient for straight may to beat you on the first and second level defensively,
39:29because he did not do that well at North Carolina.
39:31Well, so far for the Patriots, he's done a pretty, pretty, pretty good job of
39:37attacking defenses on that first and second level.
39:39So if he continues to do that, he's a, he's a pretty damn difficult matchup,
39:44which is why you hear coaches like, you know, Sean McVay and Mike McDaniel say,
39:48yeah, the kid's good dude's good because it's, it's tough to attack a guy like
39:53that, who's that athletic, who has his arm, but also has been able to show that
39:57patience.
39:58All right.
39:58Before we get to our, uh, prediction, Greg has yet another ad to read because,
40:03uh, he's a busy, busy man, folks.
40:07That's right.
40:07I am, you know, when it comes to keeping my home comfortable this winter, there's
40:11nothing more important than having a reliable team to handle things like
40:13heating, cooling, and plumbing.
40:15That's why I'm so glad I worked with no turno home services.
40:19Those guys are, these guys are local.
40:20They are family owned and family focused and have been servicing the greater
40:23Boston area for 15 years.
40:26Not only do these guys, were they speedy free estimate.
40:30I had my new oil burner installed within a week.
40:34They were neat, even though it was muddy outside, the craftsmanship was awesome.
40:38But what blew me away was I talked about it last time.
40:42Our heat, we're getting any heat upstairs when my boiler was barely hanging
40:46on, trying to get the service day.
40:49And I had them check it out.
40:50They said they, there was a faulty valve and guess what?
40:53They replaced it for free, Nick, because that's the kind of company they are.
40:57They said, we're not going to leave you like that.

42:34that code CLNS 20 bucks off your first purchase, before we get to the
42:38prediction, a little bill Belichick press conference update, we've got
42:42a mixture of corny and fun, Greg corny and fun, so, uh, here's what we've got.
42:48So far, I can update you.
42:49Uh, UNC gave bill a short sleeved hoodie, not a shocker.
42:55So that was, that was presented to him.
42:58Uh, Bubba Cunningham, who is the athletic director of North Carolina
43:05unveiled his, uh, sport coat, which was a sport coat cut off at the sleeves.
43:11So I'm sure that got all the laughter, but a cool moment, an actual cool,
43:17genuine moment is Belichick actually brought his father's sweatshirt that
43:24his dad coached in from the mid fifties.
43:26He apparently has kept it this entire time.
43:29Uh, so there's a picture of it and it's just a sweater as UNC on the front
43:35with the number 38 and, uh, said that he brought his dad's UNC sweatshirt
43:39from when Steve coached in Chapel Hill in the mid fifties, uh, Belichick.
43:43Also look, he knows how to win over a crowd folks when he wants to.
43:47You got the, you got the happy go lucky bill Belichick charismatic.
43:52I'm making you laugh.
43:53I'm smiling.
43:53I'm happy to be here.
43:55Uh, he said that he's always wanted to coach in college football.
43:59This is a dream come true.
44:01And he also added again, this is the, I know exactly what to
44:06say.
44:06You're going to eat this up.
44:08He also added that because his father was a coach at UNC when Bill was a
44:11kid, his first words were beat Duke.
44:16So there you go.
44:18He's here all week.
44:19Yeah.
44:19He's here all week folks.
44:20Enjoy the veal.
44:21All right.
44:22Uh, let's get to the prediction.
44:24Uh, I am six and seven against the spread.
44:26I am six and seven straight up.
44:28I'm consistent, baby.
44:29Uh, Greg is a disaster against the spread.
44:34Wow.
44:34Disaster, but he's, he's been, I don't know how.
44:41Yeah.
44:41Okay.
44:42I was going to say the math didn't add up, but the math does add up, Nick.
44:44I'll be okay.
44:45It's been a long week.
44:46It's only Thursday.
44:47Uh, Greg is four, seven, and two against the spread.
44:50So maybe not a disaster, but not great, but he is eight and five.
44:54So when he picks the game straight up, you want to listen to this guy.
44:57The line this week, Greg is Cardinals minus six.
44:59The over under is 46.
45:01What do you got?
45:04So I do like the Patriots chances in this game.
45:08Um, however, uh, I think that the Cardinals are just going
45:16to have too much on offense.
45:17I do think that I do think we're going to have another great Drake may game.
45:21It could be another game where we say that's the best he's
45:24played all year to top last week.
45:26Um, but I just, I don't like the Patriots going on the road, even though
45:32Arizona isn't the hardest place to play.
45:33There will be a bunch of Patriots fans there.
45:35There are a bunch of Patriots fans out there.
45:38Um, but I do like the over, I think there's going to be a
45:43lot of scoring in this game.
45:44And I do think that the Patriot, they might fall behind by double double digits,
45:49but they might get like a late cover.
45:51So I am going, uh, Patriots, excuse me, Cardinals, 30 Patriots, 24.
46:06I'll go, uh, Cardinals, 23 Patriots, 19.
46:09Uh, it's going to be difficult to get the 19, but somehow
46:12some way they'll get to 19.
46:14You can trust me for field goals from Joey sly.
46:17He knows they brought a kicker in this week.
46:18All right.
46:19Folks, his, his right leg is going to be pumping, pumping heat.
46:23Pow, pow, pow.
46:25Yeah, he's going to, he's going to, he's going to, he's going to stiff arm.
46:29Romo.
46:29He's going to be smashing that football in Arizona or field goals from
46:34sly one touchdown because the Patriots can't score in the red zone.
46:38And by the way, Arizona's red zone defense is legit.
46:41One of the best in football.
46:43Uh, so I'm going to go to 2319.
46:45Uh, let's close out with this.
46:47Another, another Belichick thing here.
46:49Uh, well, two more things.
46:51Apparently he has announced his first coaching hire, Greg.
46:56He has, uh, announced that he will be keeping Freddie
46:59kitchens on the staff.
47:02So Kitsch, Kitsch, get it done down there in North Cackalacka.
47:05Belichick and Kitsch.
47:07Uh, he also was asked about coaching, why he wants to continue to coach at age 72.
47:11He says, uh, it beats working when you love what you do.
47:15It's not work.
47:16So, uh, best of luck to build Belichick down there in North Carolina.
47:21We're done.
47:22We'll be back early next week to a recap, probably another loss.
47:27Uh, hopefully they keep it tight.
47:29Hopefully it's interesting, competitive.
47:31Uh, but until then, I, I truly honestly mean this folks, uh,
47:46yeah.
