00:06morning to restore the national power grid after a failure caused a nationwide power
00:11outage.
00:12Cuba's national electric company specified that the power grid was fully disconnected
00:16at 2 a.m. local time due to the unexpected shutdown of the Antonio Guitera's thermoelectric
00:22power plant.
00:23In addition, the company reported on the progress of the recovery, first detailing that in Havana,
00:29Capital City, 38 hospitals and 6 water supply sources and 260,504 white customers in 102
00:38circuits already have power supplies.
00:40Authorities informed that in Enteral, work continues to restore the electric system in
00:45Capital City.
00:50We think that today there will be a significant percentage of recovery.
00:54It will take us until tomorrow to reach the conditions in which the system was down so
00:59that it can be online again, which would mean the national electric system has recovered.
01:04But it is already in a recovery process.

02:12Our constitution puts it beautifully and brilliantly that they must be elected by direct and secret

02:25It is a very simple election.

03:29free medicines for senior citizens.
03:31For these demonstrations, for these demonstrators mobilized the headquarters of the Integral
03:36Medicine Assistance Program all over the country.
03:38The President's measures established that retirees who earn more than 389,000 Argentine
03:45pesos, that is less than half of a bicycle footbasket, will automatically stop receiving
03:50the five medications, while senior citizens with higher incomes will have to pay for the
03:56prescribed drugs.

04:20more funds for the universities.
04:22Adorni further informed about a new policy that seeks to tighten the conditions for entry

05:02Welcome back to From the South.
05:10French Prime Minister Michael Barton was voted out by parliament after losing the non-confidence
05:15vote worsening the country's political and economic turmoil.
05:19The decision comes after Prime Minister Barton said decisions to restore the two-day controversial
05:24article 49.3 of the constitution to approve the 2025 budget, which allow bills to be approved
05:30without a parliamentary vote, was met negatively by both far-right wing parties.
05:35The National Assembly held a divide on Wednesday to vote on two motions censored, one table
05:41by left-wing party New People's Front and the other by Marine Le Pen's far-right National
05:46Rally Party.
05:53South Korean legislators have launched a push to impeach President Jeon Su-gil, accusing
05:58him of declaring martial law in order to evade investigations into himself and his family.
06:04In an early Thursday morning session local time, lawmakers presented the impeachment motion
06:09to parliament.
06:10Jeon's governing people's power party said it would oppose the motion, but the party
06:16has been divided over a crisis.
06:18The opposition Democratic Party, which has a majority in parliament, needs at least eight
06:22governing-party lawmakers to back the bill in order for it to pass.
06:27Under South Korea's constitution, impeachment requires a two-third majority in the 300-member
06:32National Assembly.
06:34The Democratic Party currently holds 176 in parliament.
06:39A vote could take place as soon as Friday.
06:44In this context, several senior officials have offered their resignations in the wake
06:51of the bundled events, including Presidential Chief of Staff Shin Joon-suk, National Secretary
06:57Adviser Shin Moon-sik, and Presidential Chief of Staff for Policy Sung Tae-yong.
07:03The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, one of the country's largest labor organizations,
07:08had called for a strike until the president's resignation.
07:11If the National Assembly does agree to impeach, Jong will be temporarily stripped of his presidential
07:17authority while the Constitutional Court considers his fate.
07:21Jong-il will be the second Korean president to be held impeached since the mass protests
07:26that led to the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye in 2017.
07:36Russian President Vladimir Putin described as a failure the plans of the West to strategically
07:41defeat his country.
07:42During his speech after Russia calling in the settlement forum, President Putin points
07:47out that in 2022, several countries proved to be unreliable partners for Moscow by breaking
07:53production and supply chains.
07:55In this context, Putin assured that despite the pretensions of these nations to awaken
08:00the Russian economy, the economic sector not only recovers but also guarantees equitability
08:06through structural changes.
08:08He also stressed that a country is developing its technological, productive and logistical
08:14capabilities, while strengthening relations and ties with other nations.
08:23These countries have proven to be unreliable partners, endangering and destroying many
08:28production and logistics chains and cooperation ties that have been built up over decades.
08:33And we often hear in the political, military and economic spheres that these countries
08:37set themselves the task of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia, and obviously these plans
08:42failed.
08:43The government of Luxembourg rejected Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization,
08:51a joint in the countries that do not approve it.
08:54During the meeting of the bloc's prime ministers in Brussels, the representative of Luxembourg
08:59points out that Ukraine's membership in NATO could lead to any tensions.
09:03Meanwhile, Ukraine stated in a communique that it would not accept any alternative or
09:07substitute for the country's full membership in the bloc.
09:11Kiev can only be accepted into the military alliance if all 32 country's member states
09:16agree, but Kiev has 8 nations against it.

10:13The Palestinian-Israeli regime intensified its brutal attacks on the inter-Casus strip,
10:17focusing mainly on the northern part.
10:19Our correspondent Jura Hegassi brings us the details.
10:28Today, the Israeli regime has intensified its attacks throughout the Gaza Strip, but
10:32focusing mainly on the northern area.
10:35First of all, I would like to talk about and highlight the attacks that have been carried
10:39out in that area of the coastal enclave, where, last night, the Kemal Adwan Hospital, for
10:45the fifth time in a row, has been bombed by the Israeli occupation army during the ground
10:50military operation carried out by the Israeli army in the camp of refugees in Jabalia, as
10:55well as in the Beit Lagia area.
11:05In that attack, the army launched sound bombs, as well as machine gun bombs, causing partial
11:10destruction in the buildings, as well as injuring a number of medical personnel.
11:15I would like to say and highlight that this attack was not the first, but the fifth consecutive
11:20attack during the ground military operation, which has already exceeded 60 days in a row.
11:25And in the face of these attacks, the director of the hospital, Hassam Abu Safiya, has sent
11:30a statement showing the difficult situation in which that hospital is exposed and the
11:34continuous attacks carried out by the Israeli army as an attempt to collapse and take out
11:39of service, the only hospital that remains active in the northern area of the Gaza Strip.
11:52Also today, and in relation to what is happening in the northern area, the civil defense bodies
11:57have also sent a statement showing the difficult situation in which these bodies are exposed,
12:02saying that Israel is attacking any medical team, any body, whether it is civil defense
12:07or firefighters, who are trying to go to the places of the bombings to transfer the
12:11victims and the wounded.
12:13And this is an attempt to prevent these people from doing their job and be able to save the
12:17lives of the wounded and transfer them to the victims.
12:27And also the civil defense bodies have shown the difficult situation in which the more
12:31than 60,000 Gaza strikers who remain living in the northern area are exposed and the difficult
12:37situation and the fear of losing their lives, not only the fear of dying from the Israeli
12:41bombings, but also the fear of dying from starvation, because during these two months
12:46there has been no food or merchandise in the coastal enclave, but mainly in the northern
12:51area of the Gaza Strip.
12:52And therefore, today, it has been wanted to highlight the bad humanitarian situation that
12:57is taking place in the northern area of the Gaza Strip.
13:04Now, looking back at what has happened today in the center of the coastal enclave, at approximately
13:12two in the morning, the army began an attack in the northern area of the Deir al-Balak
13:17government, where it began to bomb surprisingly different areas, especially in the street
13:22of Abu Eriyad, where the army began to make these fire belts and later it was proven that
13:26these attacks were carried out to cover the ambush and the raid of a special force of
13:30the occupation army that raided the northern area of the Deir al-Balak government and where
13:36it kidnapped at least two Gaza strikers.
13:47And to say that in that process of covering the terrestrial invasion at least three Gaza
13:51strikers lost their lives, there are still a large number of them who remain under the
13:55disappeared rubble, in addition to injuring dozens of them.
14:00And in that covering carried out by the Israeli army, an immense destruction has been reported
14:04in the place of bombing buildings, as well as places and especially territories.
14:12Also, looking to the south of the Gaza Strip, today the Israeli army has bombed the area
14:20of Hanoun, specifically the area of al-Mawassi, an area that could supposedly be considered
14:25a humanitarian area, a safe area, and where Israel has bombed the tent shops of Gaza strikers,
14:31where the death of more than 20 people is reported and that could increase that figure.
14:40And finally, talk about the attacks in the area of Rafah, where in different attacks
14:44the death of at least 10 Gaza strikers who have arrived at the European hospital has
14:48been reported.
14:50And as we can see, the number of victims today has been very high.
14:55According to the latest update of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 30 Gaza strikers
15:00have been reported in the entire Gaza Strip.
15:03And now the night begins, and the number of attacks and the number of victims could unfortunately
15:08increase.
15:16Syrian government forces struck positions of terrorist groups in the rural areas of
15:20northern Aleppo and Idlib.
15:21This way, the Syrian army general command, together with armed forces, reportedly had
15:26destroyed an operations center and threw a warehouse of the group.
15:30Furthermore, the army also eliminated 200 terrorists, among them several leaders.
15:35In addition, the forces shot down more than 20 drones launched by illegal groups against
15:40villages and safe localities, while military reinforcements arrived in the city of Hama
15:45to threaten the defense positions of the Syrian army.
15:53Meanwhile, at the UN, the Arab group condemned the terrorist attack on Aleppo.
15:58In addition, it expressed its support for the Arab Republic, confronting terrorist organizations
16:04as well as the crimes of the Israeli aggressions.
16:06Furthermore, the organization stressed the need to support efforts to restore security
16:11and stability in all regions of Syria.
16:15In this context, I'm a representative of the People's Republic of China to the UN-Fukong
16:24Express.
16:25The terrorist attack on Aleppo undermines stability in Syria and is a source of concern
16:30to everybody.
16:31Terrorism is a common enemy of humanity.
16:34We stress the importance of providing support to the Syrian government, maintaining security
16:39and stability with the Syrian government.
16:46In the same context, Spokewoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova condemned
16:52the attack by Israeli groups on Syrian territory, which she denounced were carried out with the
16:57cooperation of the Special Services of Ukraine.
17:01In addition, she noted that these terrorist groups received drones and training for their
17:06uses by troops of the Kiev regime.
17:10And what about the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, expressed Cuba's
17:18solidarity with the Syrian people through his social account on the social network X.
17:23In a post that reads as follows, I spoke by telephone with Bassam Shabak, Foreign Minister
17:30of Syria.
17:31I retreat the support and solidarity of Cuba to the Syrian people and government in the
17:36face of attacks by terrorist groups against several cities in the country and the need
17:41to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of that fraternal nation.
17:46And in Switzerland, scientists at the polytechnic schools of Lucerne conducted a study to help
17:58people with injured spinal cords walk more easily by electrically stimulating a particular
18:05region of the brain.
18:07The research was conducted by a Swedish team that has pioneered several advances to help
18:14paralyzed patients walk again.
18:16The new technique is intended for people with spinal cord injuries where the connection
18:22between their brain and their spine has not been totally severed and who still have some
18:27openings in their leg.
18:28As far as the study, several trials were carried out with one of the patients involved saying
18:33that immediately is a big difference to his mobility.
18:37This groundbreaking discovery could revolutionize the neuroscience of giving hope back to people
18:43with mobility impairment.
18:48At first it was a big difference, but over time, with a lot of training and stimulation,
18:58muscle growth developed.
19:05The legs and core muscles became generally stronger and you could really see that the
19:15progress was there even without stimulation.
19:20Yet with like many very rigorous experiments in preclinical model, we discovered that this
19:26region is essential to begin walking and we could target the lateral hypothalamus with
19:31stimulation in order to have this immediate facilitation of walking and to apply during
19:37rehabilitation which led to the regrowth of nerve fibers that led to a sustained recovery
19:43of walking even when the stimulation was turned off.
19:46And with that we have come to the end of this news brief, but you can find these and many
19:51other stories on our website at lsaidenglish.net.
19:54You can also join us on our socials, we are on Facebook, Annex and Instagram as well.
