Dolphin pub in Hastings Old Town named Community Pub of the Year

Mark Little, landlord of the family-owned Dolphin pub in Hastings Old Town, explains what it means to win the CAMRA community pub award.

00:00So we're here in Hastings Old Town at the Dolphin Pub, which has just been awarded the

00:07Canberra Community Pub of the Year. We're here with the landlord, Mark Little, who's

00:14run it with his family for the last 19 years. Mark, tell us a little bit about what it means

00:19to you to win that award.

00:21It means a lot to this pub, because if you was to label this pub with any label, it would

00:29be a big community pub, which may be a bit of an old-fashioned thing, but it's the sort

00:35of pub that me and my family would like and carry on to run. You get entwined in people's

00:45lives, and you get involved with the community itself, things that are going on, things that

01:03have changed over the years, and it's a nice thing. It's somewhere where people come to

01:10talk, to chat. It's not all about, as much as I love the beer, and it's a very interesting

01:18thing for me to realise, you start to realise with this sort of pub, it's a lot more than

01:24that. It's somewhere where people come, and people even like the builders, the guys even

01:30come and get work from each other. You know, you find out about the fishing, the fishermen

01:35all come in and tell you how they're doing with the catch. So, to have the community

01:42pub, it means a lot to me and my family, and the next generation of us, and my sons and

01:52daughters, which will all be taken over the pub eventually, will carry on that.
