00:00Rep. Joey Salceda, chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means,
00:05said that the biggest manipulation of the price of agriculture
00:09happened under the administration of Duterte.
00:13He said that the import permit of rice in 2016 to 2018
00:17was the reason for the increase in the price of rice in 2018.
00:21Salceda said that this manipulation
00:24was a result of the failure of the previous administration.
00:28He also announced the formation of a support committee
00:31to investigate the manipulation of the price and smuggling of food.
00:36Salceda requested documents from the NFA and the Bureau of Customs
00:40regarding the importation of rice during that time.
00:44He predicted that the subpoena powers would be used if necessary.
00:48Salceda admitted that the economy lost P88.6 billion
00:54because of the manipulation.
00:56The issue of the implementation of the Rice Tarification Law in 2019 was just the beginning.
