00:00U.S. President Joe Biden said the deal brokered between Israel and Hezbollah that aims to
00:06achieve a 60 days ceasefire is designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities.
00:11Good afternoon. For the next 60 days, the Lebanese army and state security forces will
00:17deploy and take control of their own territory once again. Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure
00:23in southern Lebanon will not be allowed to be rebuilt. And over the next 60 days, Israel
00:29will gradually withdraw its remaining forces.
00:33Biden thanked France's President Emmanuel Macron for his partnership in reaching the
00:38deal and said they would work together to provide assistance to ensure its successful
00:43implementation.
00:46Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that they would respond strongly to
00:50any violation of the proposed ceasefire deal.
01:12Shortly after Biden's announcement, an Israeli airstrike shook the Lebanese capital of Beirut
01:18and at least 24 people were killed in strikes across the country in the day leading up to
01:22the deal. Hezbollah had also been firing rockets, triggering air raid sirens across the north
01:29of Israel.
01:33The agreement does not affect Israel's war in Gaza, but Biden expressed hope that the
01:38ceasefire would be a catalyst to also reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas.
