00:00Nightly greetings one and all.
00:06William Thieau here, homegrown and happy to bring you the evening edition of PTV News
00:11Now.
00:12Tops on our news leader board at the hour, the newly minted pieces of proposed legislation
00:18the president inked into law over the weekend were conceived, carefully crafted and codified
00:24in strict accordance with the prevailing international rule-based order, otherwise known as the United
00:29Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea or UNCLOS.
00:34Thus, China or the Chinese government in the mainland has no reason to overreact because
00:40the Philippines is well-entitled to assert its sovereign rights to territories defined
00:45under UNCLOS, nothing more, nothing less, just as much as China did 32 years ago when
00:51it arbitrarily declared and enacted its law on the territorial sea and contiguous zone
00:57on Feb. 25, 1992.
00:59NSC Deputy Director General Jonathan Malaya said Republic Act 12064, the president inked
01:06into law last Friday, declares the maritime areas under the country's jurisdiction to
01:12include territorial seas, internal and archipelagic waters, continental shelf and contiguous and
01:19exclusive economic zones.
01:21Meanwhile, the twin piece of legislation enacted on Friday, Republic Act 12065 or the
01:28Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act, identifies and designates the sea lanes and airspace above
01:34for the innocent and expeditious passage of sea vessels and aircraft through or over the
01:40country's archipelagic waters, adjacent territorial seas and designed to prevent arbitrary international
01:48passage in the Philippine archipelago.
01:54California, America's most populous and economically prosperous state, whose GDP is
02:01fifth globally, bleeds blue politically, and even though Kamala Harris won the state and
02:07its 55 electoral votes, Trump supporters took to the streets to declare and celebrate his
02:13comeback victory, as VOA's Jinya Dulot reports.
02:18Dozens of flags, tires, plates, even shoes.
02:22California retired U.S. Marine Jerry Piani carries Donald Trump's name on nearly everything
02:28he owns.
02:30Supporting Trump as an outsider from Washington's political elite, Piani has been advocating
02:35for the Republican candidate for the last eight years.
02:40What a relief it was off my chest because without that there's no other place to go.
02:44This is the last bastion we got.
02:46America's the only place we got to go.
02:48Where else can you go to have freedom like you have here and have a constitution?
02:51So this is very important for us.
02:53Trump supporters in Los Angeles this past weekend celebrating the victory filled with
02:59noise and flags, Griffith Park, Hollywood Boulevard, even Santa Monica Pier.
03:05A California Republican couple, Rebecca and Roland Casey, have joy mixed with grief.
03:11They are mourning Roland's two nephews and a cousin who recently died from a fentanyl overdose.
03:18It's killing a lot of blacks, and basically not just blacks, but my family.
03:26That was three family members of mine that I loved dearly, that I helped raise, and then
03:31Now they're not here anymore because of fentanyl coming from China through Mexico into the United States.
03:36We know that the borders, they must be shut down, and you have to have secure borders.
03:40If you don't have secure borders, you don't have a nation.
03:42Rebecca Casey says they were hoping Trump would be elected in 2020.
03:48If it had to happen this way, you know, he was president for four years, and I really
03:53believe that a lot of things had to be exposed.
03:56The Lord allowed him just to take a sit down for only a minute, which he didn't stop even then.
04:01We're following him every step of the way.
04:03California Governor Gavin Newsom last week asked the state's legislature to increase
04:09legal funding to defend California from potential Trump's White House attacks on abortion rights,
04:16electric vehicle regulations, immigration policies, and federal disaster aid.
04:22Michelle, another Trump supporter who, despite her candidate's victory, did not want to give
04:28her last name, fearing it might affect her job in Hollywood entertainment, said she believes
04:34that more Californians might choose the Republican Party come next election cycle.
04:40Once he gets into office, like really into office, I think so many people are going to
04:47just be living their best life.
04:49In the 2020 presidential elections, 63.5% of Californians voted for Democratic nominee
04:57Joe Biden versus 34.3% for Trump.
05:02In 2024, Harris got 58.2% and Trump 38.9%.
05:09The last time a Republican presidential candidate won California was George H.W. Bush in 1988.
05:19Janette Diulo, BOA News, Los Angeles.
05:25At this moment, let's turn to my colleague in Pine City Studios for what's hot and happening
05:30in the Cordilleras, Ala.
06:18Activate the quick response team to respond to the effects of the typhoon.
06:2435,000 family food packs to be distributed to all the provinces.
06:31If they can monitor that our stockpile is going down, we will send them an augmentation.
06:40This is Sabali Payadamag reporting live from Baguio City, RRMC.
06:44This is the latest on the typhoon.
06:48This is the latest on the typhoon.
06:50This is one of the local governments that is monitoring the landslide prone areas.
06:56This is where the typhoon hits and the water is slightly saturated.
07:01This is one of the local governments that is monitoring the landslide prone areas.
07:06This is where the typhoon hits and the water is slightly saturated.
07:09This is where the typhoon hits and the water is slightly saturated.
07:14This is where the typhoon hits and the water is slightly saturated.
07:20As you all know, as I said a while ago, the city of Baguio is landslide prone.
07:25And most of our landslides are caused due to heavy rains.
07:29If you are in a landslide prone area, it is the saturation level of the land that they should monitor.
07:36If it is really flooded with water, that they actually coordinate with their DRM council members,
07:43our barangays, our counterparts in the barangays, so that they would actually do an assessment on their level.
07:50We are prepared and rest assured that we can immediately respond to any call for emergency.
07:57Thank you. Thank you very much. This is PTV Covilera.
08:01This is Ala Sunduad. Good evening.
