Allerton Road is home to a library, many bars and restaurants, and is the subject of a Beatles song although it doesn't get a name check. The South Liverpool street is in a suburb which is crammed full of character, and just a short stroll from Calderstones Park too.

00:00The south Liverpool suburb of Allerton has roots going back as far as the
00:05Doomsday Book, now popular area for families and young professionals alike
00:09with your guide to Allerton Road and the surrounding area. As well as watering
00:13holes to wet your whistle, Allerton Road is home to a number of restaurants
00:17whether you are looking for a celebratory feast, a vegan spread or
00:21just a coffee and cake. The likes of Greek, Chinese, Italian and more on offer
00:26you could almost eat around the world on this short stretch of road. Derrick's is
00:31a New York inspired sandwich bar serving coffee and some mighty fine subs
00:35created by two best friends and their travels around the States. Their love of
00:39American culture from the coffee to the huge butties inspired them to bring a
00:44taste of New York to Allerton where they both grew up. The Beatles may have made
00:49Penny Lane famous with their song but it is actually set mostly on Allerton Road.
00:54The Penny Lane Development Trust who provide a wide range of health and
00:58well-being activities for the local community. In addition up to 27,000 Fab
01:054 fans come through their gates each year. There's been a pet shop here for
01:10more than 50 years but back in 2018 it was transformed into Pets Corner as well
01:14as selling pet accessories and food for your four-legged friends. They have a
01:17cafe and dog groomers on site too. Chandler's Superstore has been based on
01:22Allerton Road since 1995. The independent shops home to products such as gardening,
01:26hardware, houseplants, DIY and much more. Cold Stones Park boasts woodland, a lake
01:33and fields as well as beautiful Japanese and Old English gardens. The 94 acre
01:37site homes are Liverpool's oldest inhabitants the Allerton Oak. It was
01:41crowned UK Tree of the Year in 2019. The council estimates it to be worth at
01:45least half a million pounds and it's said to be around a thousand years old.
01:50Legend has it that in medieval times the local court known as a hundred courts
01:56would meet under the branches of the tree.
