The Beatles' may have made Penny Lane famous with their song but it is set mostly on Allerton Road. However, it's well worth a visit to this recognised road as it does have a lot to offer, from watering holes to an Italian deli and an independent lifestyle store.

00:06The street in the suburbs of South Liverpool is more than just a song though.
00:10It is estimated the legacy of the Beatles is worth approximately £100 million to the
00:14Liverpool economy each year, annually attracting more than 600,000 visitors and
00:19supporting almost 2,500 jobs in the city. Penny Lane Development Trust was established in 2003
00:28with a vision to be a vibrant focal point for community activity, involvement and create a
00:33sense of belonging which embraces and acknowledges the local historical and global heritage of Penny
00:39Lane. They provide a wide range of health and well-being activities for the local community.
00:44In addition to this, up to 27,000 Fab Four fans come through their gates each year.
00:49The Dovedale Towers pub, or the Dovey as it's known to locals, has a rich history.
00:54The building was originally a home for a wealthy ship owner and its name comes from a tower that
00:59was once there viewing the River Mersey. In 1969, Freddie Mercury lived in an upstairs flat at the
01:05Dovedale Towers while he was in a Liverpool band. The Penny Lane's historical pub serving up food,
01:12wine, cocktails and draft beer. The pub's situated on the site of John Lennon and Paul McCartney's
01:17former GP surgery. There are many Beatles related items throughout the whole bar and a cozy beer
01:23garden at the back. St Barnabas Church holds a special place in the hearts of Fab Four fans as
01:28Paul McCartney sang in the choir here when he was young. If all that Beatles tourism has got you
01:34worn out then just a hop, skip and a jump away is the beautiful Greenbank Park. This tranquil green
01:40space has a lake walled garden in an old English design and you can always pop into the watering
01:45can for a refreshment. As the eponymous song goes, behind the shelter in the middle of a roundabout
01:53also not technically on Penny Lane, well there's not a lot going on here apart from the opportunity for a selfie.
