A largely cloudy and gloomy start for most. Rain moving through central southern England, Wales and Northern Ireland, weakening as it pushes into the Midlands but producing the odd heavy shower towards the south east. Brighter conditions behind this moving into Wales and southwest England, but with an increasing wind and scattered showers. Some bright spells developing too for southwest Scotland and northwest England but a lot of low cloud elsewhere - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 25/10/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Aidan McGivern.

00:00Hi there. A much cloudier day for many, but not entirely cloudy. There will be some brighter
00:06weather, albeit with a few showers and an increasing breeze as this area of low pressure
00:11develops and heads close to the southwest. Essentially, there are two areas of weather
00:17marked out by this low pressure. There's the cloudy and occasionally rainy zone marked
00:23out by these fronts and within the fronts. Whilst as this low pressure approaches, we've
00:28got cloud breaks, some sunshine, but also increasingly blustery winds and heavy showers
00:35coming alongside it. So, yeah, it's a cloudy start for most. In fact, that cloud's low,
00:42so misty, murky in places, particularly central and southern England, parts of Wales. And
00:47then we've got, because of the cold front, an area of rain moving through central southern
00:51England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and that's going to weaken as it moves north-eastwards,
00:56but it could spark the odd heavy shower in the south-east by the afternoon. Meanwhile,
01:00the brighter skies I mentioned are pushing into south Wales and south-west England by
01:05late afternoon, albeit with an increasing wind, particularly for parts of Cornwall and
01:11further scattered showers. Further north, there will be some cloud breaks, particularly
01:16for south-west Scotland, north-west England, but a lot of cloud is expected. And again,
01:22that cloud's going to be fairly low. A mild day, but not as mild as Thursday, so temperatures
01:27typically in the mid-teens. Then into the evening, the broken cloud area and the blustery
01:34showers moves north, although the showers largely confined to coastal parts of the south-west.
01:41Increasingly clear skies across much of England and Wales, and as the winds ease later on,
01:46some mist and fog patches will form. But it stays mostly cloudy for Scotland and Northern
01:50Ireland, with outbreaks of more persistent rain in the far north-west. Mild here as we
01:55begin the weekend, colder further south, certainly a fresher start compared with Friday morning,
02:00and we've got those mist and fog patches first thing. They won't last long. Another area
02:04of cloud heads into parts of eastern England, perhaps with some patchy rain associated with
02:09it, but more persistent and at times heavier rain with gusty winds moves into north-west
02:13Scotland and Northern Ireland by the end of the day, with some showers ahead of that.
02:17So a mixed start to the weekend, and Sunday's looking similar. A lot of fine weather at
02:21first, increasingly wet and windy towards the far north-west. Bye bye.
