00:00...trafficking of Cambodian women to become surrogate mothers is also a target of the Senate's investigation.
00:07DOJ has announced that Daniel Banalastas is now in charge of the center of the news.
00:17The Senate's resolution to investigate what happened to the Filipinos who were raped by surrogate mothers in Cambodia
00:25Sen. Risa Ondeveron, of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality,
00:32said that 20 Filipinos were raped and 13 of them were surrogates.
00:38The Department of Justice and the Interagency Council Against Trafficking also want to investigate again.
00:44The DOJ is encouraging the government's efforts to protect our countrymen from exploitation and abuse,
00:52including human trafficking.
00:54The DOJ also called on our countrymen to be alert and to be careful in their work abroad.
01:01The DOJ also asked for help from their foreign counterparts and international organizations
01:07in the ongoing campaign against any form of exploitation.
01:11The Department of Foreign Affairs and other government agencies were the first to be encouraged to talk,
01:17but they have a message for our countrymen.
01:20All throughout Southeast Asia, there is a lot of trafficking.
01:23Scammers, surrogates, mothers.
01:27Please, before you go to our countrymen,
01:33you will go through the DMW-POA, the official process.
01:38Of course, there is a fine, there is a hassle, but it is important to have protection.
01:42But what is saddening is the situation of some.
01:45We believe most knew.
01:47They knew what they were getting into.
01:49But some, most, it is impossible for one or two to not know what they were getting into.
01:56Because usually what they are told is that they have jobs in Thailand,
02:01in Cambodia, computer work, tourism work.
02:06That is what they are doing.
02:08We just heard about a surrogate.
02:10Actually.
02:11It's possible, it's happening in other countries too.
02:14Daniel Manalastas for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
