00:00Probably was a slow night because nobody wanted to come out the house last night after that
00:03debacle after what happened at Berkeley, what happened at Levi's instead of Clara in 100
00:07degree weather.
00:08Oh, it was a disaster.
00:09It was a 49ers dropped to 2-3, 0-2 in the NFC West, 0-3 in the NFC.
00:15And look, today's the show, 888-957-9570 and shout out to YouTube, Twitch, and Twitter.
00:21Shout out to YouTube, I wish the chat was buzzing today, trust me, I do.
00:26But I'm going to make something clear here today, Shaski, that my trigger finger when
00:32it comes to the flush button will be quick today.
00:35It will be quick today if you come in with the hot garbage about this guy should be fired,
00:40this guy should be benched.
00:41I want to have a grown-up philosophical conversation about what's going on with the Sarasota 49ers
00:46so I don't have time for your little nonsense at the kiddie table fighting over tablecloths
00:50about this guy not blocking or this, that, no, no, no, no, no.
00:54Let's have a conversation about what the hell is going on with the 49ers.
00:57And one thing is, it's evident, and it's proof, in the red zone, that you missed Christian
01:02McCaffrey.
01:03Because so far this season, the Niners are 9-22, 9-22 in the red zone.
01:07They've got problems in the red zone, and it's directly correlated with the absence
01:11of Christian McCaffrey.
01:12But there's a lot to get into, Shaski, I can't wait for this one, oh, I'm fired up for this
01:16show.
01:17I just, this one, this one just is so frustrating because they got bodybagged in the second
01:22half.
01:24You got out hit, and you didn't hit anybody other than arm tackling.
01:28If I watch Malik Mustafa and Campbell, and even, look, the great Fred Warner, who just
01:33looked a little compromised yesterday, all of these great players on defense either not
01:38showing up with no pressure whatsoever, or arm tackling, James Conner, aka The Terminator,
01:45was destroying them yesterday.
01:46Was it John Conner, The Terminator?
01:47Yeah, but that's James Conner, that's the nickname that the Steeler fans gave him.
01:51But the point being is that, that guy in the second half, they said 77 yards.
01:56If you told me 177 yards, I would have believed you.
01:59He was a wrecking ball in the second half, and then Kyler Murray, that touchdown design
02:04where they did the fake run, jump up and throw, it was Tebow-like, he was unbelievable yesterday.
02:09There were some horrific angles, but to me this isn't even on, like, the defense had
02:15moments where they got stops on short-sighted fields.
02:18This is a combination loss here, when a combo loss, they got out-coached in the second half,
02:27and they got out-executed, and out-hit, like, that's what happened, the Cardinals came and
02:31played a full 60-minute game, and the Niners didn't, and we could talk about the kicker
02:35not being available, well, then situational football, that whole drive after they get
02:40the field goal on the Purdy interception, so Purdy gets the ball tipped, he's late,
02:44he was gonna throw a pick to Kittle, because he was late in the flat anyway, whether it
02:48got tipped or not, no one wants to admit it, but that's what was gonna happen, and
02:51then the defense got to stop, they got a field goal, you get the ball back, you march down,
02:55Bonte, I'm looking, seven straight sick plays, seven straight sick plays, and then you get-
03:01Are you talking about on the final drive for Arizona?
03:03No, no, this is, it's 23-13, okay, it's in the third quarter, after you get a field goal
03:08stop, the defense got to stop, seven straight big plays, you get down to, I don't know,
03:14to the 24-yard line, and then you get stuffed, and then it's second and nine, and Jawan Jennings
03:20has a false start, and it totally ruins, and they just short circuit, and then Purdy gets
03:25another pass tipped, I thought he was thrown into triple coverage anyway, so I don't even
03:30know, and then he holds the ball forever, and you're forced to go for it, because you
03:34don't have the kicker, that whole sequence, we can talk about the quarterback, we can
03:38talk about decision making, maybe the coach dialing up a draw or something, understanding
03:41that, hey, I don't have my kicker available, that sequence right there ended up being monster
03:47for this team, and obviously the Jordan Mason fumble down the stretch, why is Ronnie Bell
03:50even in the game?
03:51I mean, just so many questions.
03:52Hold on, hold on, hold on, there's so many questions, there's so many guys to get into,
03:55I could get into Nick Sorensen, but I'm not going to start there, because I know Steve
04:00Wilkes' defense, whether we laughed at him or not, or whether we like him or not, well
04:05Nick Foster was talking about second half adjustments, when Steve Wilkes, even during
04:09the three game losing streak, when Steve Wilkes, everybody wanted him out of town,
04:13Minnesota gave him six points in the second half, they were shutting out Cincinnati going
04:16into the fourth quarter, Cleveland scored 19 points at all, what Nick Sorensen is doing,
04:22I don't know, but it looks pretty predictable when you send blitzes, it looks pretty predictable
04:26when guys run RPLs and you can't get a stop, it looks pretty predictable when you give
04:30up at least seven yards of carry in the second half, and miss me with the heat, because both
04:35teams played the heat, and the Niners, and the Niners had the ball for 38 minutes, so
04:40offensively this was a colossal disaster, again, you're not, when you continue to settle
04:46for field goals, and you don't score touchdowns in this league, you will get beat over and
04:51over and over again.
04:53And like, I'm looking at all their red zone opportunities, but before the kicker even
04:57went down.
04:589 of 22, 9 of 22 overall this season in the red zone.
05:00But here's what I don't understand, and look, they did what I wanted, they ISOed Kittle
05:03early in the game, and tried to throw him a little fade, they tried to run that little
05:06short stream.
05:07Ayuk is cooking, this is his best game in forever, he's cooking, and he doesn't get
05:12a red zone look.
05:13No, it's a colossal disaster.
05:14He doesn't get a red zone look, Deebo on a milk carton in this game, and I thought Jordan
05:19Mason, until the fumble, was cooking as well, it's just, the red zone stuff, I don't even
05:26know what to make of it at this point.
05:27It's 9 of 22, no, I tell you what to make of it, I don't know what to make of it.
05:30It's not adjusting without Christian McCaffrey, because what Christian McCaffrey does in the
05:34red zone, there's certain guys who's got a nose for the end zone, like I look at LeVar
05:38Jackson for example, he's got a nose for the end zone, King Henry, Derrick Henry, he's
05:42got a nose for the end zone, you know what I'm saying, there's certain guys who's got
05:45a nose, so that's where I'm going with CMC.
05:48You can put them in a slot, you can line them up wide, you get a matchup nightmare on the
05:51linebacker, you run the Texas routes, you run the flat out routes, you do whatever you
05:54gotta do, but Christian McCaffrey has a nose for the end zone.
05:57They are missing that element with Christian McCaffrey, there's no doubt about it.
06:02Derrick Mason's been running great, there's no doubt, he's running great, he's trucking
06:05dudes, but you can't fumble inside the 10 yard line when you have an opportunity, you
06:09gotta take care of the football, and all the Twitter coaches and everybody out there trying
06:13to coach and say, you know, blame Ustek for the miss block, well initially he made his
06:17block.
06:18Budda Baker, at number 7 came in, flying in the hole, it's all-
06:21Well you know me on personnel, when I saw Ronnie Bell out there, I go, there's no way
06:25they're passing!
06:26The minute I saw Ronnie Bell walk onto that field, because I'm big on red zone personnel
06:30groupings, I was like, you have Ayoub, Kadeembo, and Jennings, and Ronnie Bell is on the field?
06:36Now this is what I know, well you know, it's hot, I don't even want to hear it, I don't
06:40even want to hear it, why is it, and I'm not even trying to rip Ronnie Bell, I'm just saying,
06:44when the defense sees him on the field, you know what they're thinking?
06:46There's no way in hell you're passing the ball.
06:49Look at that personnel grouping they had on that play.
06:51Oh it was terrible, I saw it, I saw it, but still, everybody's gotta, but Juice, Juice
06:55Juice made his block, Kittle, I don't know if he missed his block or what happened on
07:01that play, but Jordan, that's on Jordan Mason, you've got to take care of the football.
07:06I agree.
07:07But we start with the top.
07:08When it comes to the 49ers, we start with the top.
07:10We start with the head coach, and we start with the quarterback.
07:13Now a lot of people are tired of Shanahan or whatnot, and I'm not tired of Shanahan,
07:17players gotta execute.
07:18I'm frustrated.
07:19I'll be real with you, I'm pretty frustrated.
07:20But I look at the quarterback saying, you gotta take, he's trying to hit the home run
07:24at times a little too much with Brad Purdy.
07:27He's trying to hit the home run a little too much.
07:29You gotta get rid of the ball.
07:30You don't need to scramble around like you're Doug Flutie or Roger Stolbeck every single
07:34play.
07:35Like you said, the drop-back passing game was working yesterday.
07:37Would I like to see a little more play action?
07:39Absolutely, I would like to see a little more play action, but let's be real.
07:43When you look at the numbers here, just the raw data, the raw data of the football game,
07:47they had no business losing yesterday.
07:49They had no business, now on the final drive when Arizona got the ball and Jordan Mason
07:53the football, I said, oh, this is a disaster.
07:54And fourth to five, Kyler Murray, you gotta check your cap.
07:57Fourth to five, and we played the call, Kevin Burkhardt coming in on Fox Sports alongside
08:01Tom Brady.
08:02Fourth and five.
08:03And the Niners, hold on, let me finish.
08:06This is what's the difference.
08:07Now the Niners showed a cover zero blitz.
08:09I think Frank Warner was the linebacker who dropped back in the covers, but they still
08:12sent five.
08:13And Murray throws it off his back foot to Marvin Harrison Jr., who was on the milk carton
08:17as well.
08:18That was only his second catch of the game, but it was a hell of a catch on the out route.
08:21And he throws it up and Isaac Adams on him.
08:24The Cardinals, conversely, when Brock Pretty throws his end of game interception and he
08:28gets the ball tip, the Cardinals are in a zero blitz.
08:30And for the life of me, why can't the Niners block up on Kevin?
08:35Guys send six on the 49ers, and for the last five years, the 49ers have yet to figure out
08:40how to navigate against a cover zero blitz.
08:42They may be the only team with one of the greatest offensive lines we've seen over the
08:46last 10 years of Kyle Senehan that just can't function on the cover zero blitz.
08:50And Purdy gets his ball tipped, Kittle's wide open to the flat.
08:53That's going to be a first down.
08:55He's going to get out of bounds.
08:56Game over.
08:57But this goes back to what Brady was talking about during the game.
09:00And what Kyle has said for years now, he doesn't want quarterbacks making protection calls
09:05at the line.
09:06So like to your point about like all these tip passes and all these, these, these free
09:10release blitzers and all that stuff, like Kyle believes, and this is just the way they
09:14run offense.
09:15It's not good.
09:16I don't want my quarterback making those calls.
09:17And Brady said it during the broadcast and we'll, we'll pull the sound at some point.
09:21Yeah.
09:22I don't want anything to be simplified as the quarterback.
09:24I don't want anything simple.
09:25I want everything on my plate.
09:27I want to be able to be the one, cause I'm the one out there throwing the ball and I'm
09:30the one out there under duress.
09:31So I want to be able to have more control.
09:33So that's a Kyle scheme thing.
09:35Not a Brock, but Brock wasn't good in this game.
09:38We'll stop.
09:39We'll stop right there.
09:40We're Brady.
09:42Coming to the San Francisco 49ers.
09:44What did I initially say about that?
09:45I had questions about whether or not it will work between Kyle and Brady.
09:50Kyle wants full control.
09:52He wants full autonomy.
09:53Brady, you hear him in the broadcast booth last night and we see how his career played
09:57out.
09:58He wants full control on the huddle and he wants full control at the line of scrimmage.
10:01So how would that have worked out?
10:03That's why it's not shocking to me anymore that Kyle said no to Tom Brady and kept Jimmy
10:07Garoppolo around because he wants full control.
10:10And Brock Purdy, you notice, he's ready for more on his plate.
10:13Brady's talking about Kyler Murray and I'm reading about Caleb Williams and I'm watching
10:17Caleb Williams get better and better by the week.
10:19The number one overall pick for the Chicago Bears.
10:21He's getting better and better by the week and you know what they're doing, Matt, April
10:24Flusi-Gumperty?
10:25They're putting a little more on his plate.
10:26He's having a little more control at the line of scrimmage.
10:29Brock Purdy can handle it.
10:30Give us some control at the line of scrimmage so we don't, for the life of me, cover zero
10:34blitz.
10:35I'm not trying to defeat the covered the Niners in four wide formations or five wide
10:39formations just to cover zero blitz because the 49ers offense and their philosophy don't
10:45seem to have an answer for cover zero blitzes.
10:47Well, it's interesting that you bring up that one Kyler play at the end, which is a brilliant
10:51play.
10:52I think for me, the part that I loved about that play schematically is let's I saw this
10:56guy on the left hand side and we know even if the blitz comes, I'm going to have enough
11:00room to lob one up to him in a one on one situation.
11:04I'm giving my guy enough chance like I just thought the spacing, everything was set up
11:08and that's high IQ from Kyler Murray knowing if I lob this bad boy up, there's nobody going
11:13to come.
11:14It's a one on one play.
11:15My guy's going to box him out.
11:17The guy that, I mean, James Conner was awesome.
11:19Wilson kicked their butt too.
11:21I thought Wilson, number 14, the wide receiver was excellent in this game.
11:24And then Kyler, first quarter, I've never seen a player go bye-bye from the 45 yard
11:31line.
11:32He was at the line of scrimmage.
11:33I've seen players do that all the time.
11:34At the line of scrimmage?
11:35But you know what?
11:36He went bye-bye at the line of scrimmage.
11:37Five yards, five yards down the field.
11:38He went bye-bye.
11:39I couldn't believe it.
11:40Tyreek does that as well.
11:41Yeah, you're right.
11:42Tyreek does.
11:43But quarterbacks?
11:44Yeah, quarterbacks.
11:45It's not good.
11:46So I'm looking at the team stats here.
11:47I couldn't believe that.
11:48I'm looking at the team stats.
11:49And the 49ers, 32 minutes and 58 seconds of time of possession, but in the second half,
11:53they get shut out.
11:54They get shut out now, losing your kicker, losing your kicker, forced you to go for that
12:00fourth and 23.
12:01But it's that sequence.
12:02I've got it right here.
12:03I know, I know, I know.
12:04That whole sequence was bad.
12:05The whole sequence was bad.
12:07But it forced you to go for the fourth and 23 from the Arizona 27-yard line.
12:11Moody's healthy.
12:12That's a 44-yard kick.
12:14Moody's healthy.
12:15It's 26-13.
12:17Moody's healthy.
12:18You may have a shot to win this football game, but you lost Jake Moody.
12:21And again, I see people...
12:23This is how you know when people don't play football or never played football or don't
12:26understand.
12:27Well, maybe you should have your kicker try to tackle.
12:29What did you want to do?
12:31Did you want the guy to return a kickoff to the house?
12:33Dallas is the only guy who has a return touchdown on that kickoff play all year.
12:37Right.
12:38Okay.
12:39I'm sorry.
12:40This is unfortunate.
12:41It sucks.
12:42It got hurt.
12:43You have to make a play there.
12:44You got to make a play.
12:45I mean, what do you want to do?
12:46And if he doesn't, you know, we're saying, oh, the kicker's got to make a play there.
12:47Yeah, exactly.
12:48No, it's unfortunate.
12:49It sucks that it happened.
12:50But that's football.
12:51Here's the thing I wanted.
12:52And I know they asked him in the postgame, they were like, how far can Wisniewski actually
12:56kick a kick?
12:57What was your...
12:58On the final drive, where were you trying to get to?
13:00And they were like, to the 15.
13:01Like, we're thinking we got to get down to the 10 or the 15.
13:03It would have been an extra point, basically.
13:05But like, I'm just thinking to myself, like, and this is just a bigger football question.
13:10I mean, you got to be prepared for these things.
13:11And I...
13:12You got to get to the 15?
13:13I don't even know if that's a fair question.
13:14You want two kickers on a roster?
13:15What?
13:16You want two kickers on a roster?
13:17No, I just, I, maybe we should be practicing a little more with the punter kicking field
13:22goals.
13:23I don't know.
13:24No, I'm asking a big picture as like an NFL guy.
13:25I don't know.
13:27But when I saw Juice laughing at it around on the sidelines in the middle of that game
13:30when they're up 10, he's like goofing around, kicking them, and he's like laughing and the
13:34crowd's giving him something.
13:35And I'm thinking, guys, this is still a game.
13:38Why are we goofing around on the sidelines?
13:40And I'm not trying to make too much of it.
13:42I'm just saying, like, there's this aura of arrogance from this team that has been lingering
13:47for a long time.
13:48And it's no wonder that the hungrier team in the second half yesterday in the sweltering
13:53heat came in and body bagged them late.
13:56He's body bagged them.
13:57How many missed tackles on the final three drives?
13:59Well, no.
14:00How many missed tackles at all?
14:0116 missed tackles.
14:02Lemon 16 missed tackles on Sunday.
14:05So no.
14:06So I got, I got bigger questions.
14:08You guys see me in the thread.
14:09I want a ball Hawking safety so bad because safety's can't cover on one of you.
14:13I've been yelling for a big for cover safety who fungus hurt again, which has me questions
14:17by this long term future with the service of the 49ers.
14:20Another injury for long.
14:21He's been hurt three times already.
14:22He just got back.
14:23So we can't stay healthy.
14:25And yes, uh, look, the heat was a problem for the feds.
14:28You saw a lot of people ducking for shade or whatnot.
14:30It was a factor.
14:31But come on teams.
14:32But you know what?
14:33I look at my big money players on the final drive and I'm watching TJ watt last night
14:37and I'm watching and I'm watching guys all over the league make big time plays to close
14:42out a game.
14:43The New York giants sack Gino Smith seven times yesterday.
14:46So Thursday when they do play Seattle, I don't want to hear anything about not getting sacks
14:50because Gino Smith got sacked seven times by Burns, Thibodeau, Lawrence, and whoever
14:55was up there playing for the New York giants.
14:58Where was my money players on the final drive?
15:00Bosa was, I watched the game back again this morning, Bosa was not, he made the great play
15:05on the screen pass.
15:07He was non-existent.
15:08Leonard Floyd was nearly non-existent.
15:10I haven't heard little Floyd's name since week one and Fred Warner to me, it was courageous
15:14that he played.
15:15He wasn't the same.
15:16He did.
15:17I'm not trying to rip Fred.
15:18No, no, no.
15:19He wasn't normal Fred.
15:20And I'm giving him credit for even shooting up Malik Mustafa missed a million tackles.
15:25Oh my God.
15:26The whole fanga angle he took on the Kyler Murray play.
15:29All I can think about was Baldy saying, when you're playing safety, you have to stay back
15:34between the man and the ball and you can't allow a guy.
15:37He came flying in so late.
15:39He has not been good this year.
15:40He has been not good at all.
15:41He's losing money.
15:42He's losing money.
15:43Let's be real.
15:44Jair Brown made a couple of plays in coverage.
15:45Jair Brown's stiff.
15:46He's stiff in pass coverage.
15:47I need more from him, but let's be real too.
15:51Devontree Campbell's been all he needs to not play the big F D winners is coming.
15:55I'm sorry.
15:56Devontree Campbell.
15:57If Drake Greenlawn gets back here and he's healthy, the 49ers may straight up just cut
16:02Devontree Campbell.
16:03I'm dead serious.
16:04He made just get cut.
16:05I mean, it is not good right now with number 59.
16:09So it's not good with the 49ers.
16:10They're two and three, but I got a positive for everybody.
16:13Oh, Bonte Hill, businessman Bonte.
16:16Are you serious?
16:17You're going on me.
16:18If that went on Thursday, Arizona loses to Green Bay, you're tied for first place in
16:23the NFC West.
16:24So I'm not going to do my gloom.
16:27I'm not all going to do my gloom in the first week of October.
16:31Am I saying there's issues with the football team?
16:33You damn right.
16:34There's issues with the football team.
16:35I have no idea where you're going to find a pass rush from.
16:37Can't go out and buy that.
16:38They don't grow on trees.
16:39You can't find another defensive coordinator because Nick Sorensen looks lost right now.
16:43And I don't know what's going on with him.
16:45All the people want to see what's out.
16:47We shouldn't be careful what we wish for.
16:49However, however, we got issues.
16:51But with the win on Thursday, we're feeling good on Friday, aren't we?
16:55I'll think about that Thursday morning situation critical for you.
17:01Oh, I'm here for an eight, eight, eight, nine, five, seven, nine, five, seven zero is the
17:04number.
17:05Shout out to our great friends at Floyd Water Plumbing and Drain.
17:07Got to fill it.
17:08We're going to use that dump button a lot today.
17:09That flush button.
17:10I mean, if we're going to call it to the roast, you better bring it because if you don't, you'll
17:13be flushed.
17:14Brought to you by Floyd Water Plumbing and Drain.
17:16What's coming up on the game?
17:17Brought to you by Crystal Geyser, Alpine Spring Water.
17:20Your phone calls Niner fans.
17:22What went wrong?
17:24What are you angry about this morning?
17:26Niners dropped to two and three.
17:27They get shut out in the second half by the Arizona Cardinals, who had 40 plus dropped
17:32out of the week before and they had nobody playing.
17:35What's going on with the Niners?
17:36You were right.
17:37I was wrong.
17:38I was wrong.
