00:00I'll just leave that out there.
00:02There's just so many elements to this game.
00:03We haven't even gotten to it, like Debo, well they get a punt blocked and Wisnowski instead
00:08of just falling on the ball, it's only going to be a couple yard difference, he made a
00:12total business decision, I'm not going to drop on that ball, I'm good off that.
00:15Not that it was going to change Minnesota getting the ball, but that was a beautifully
00:20blown block, I don't know what they were doing up front, the guy just went right by Robert
00:27Beal Jr., and then Cowling muffs a punt, and in between that, Debo is returning kicks
00:33by the way, not sure if you're paying attention folks, and he's stopped at the 17 yard line,
00:38alright, gets stuffed, it looks like uh-oh, does he get rolled up, no there's a flag on
00:42the play, let's go back to the 10, special teams had a horrific day yesterday.
00:47Oh, special teams was awful, it was god awful.
00:51Getting off the field on third down, awful.
00:54Down the distance, awful, 2 of 10 for the 49ers on third down, awful.
00:59The red zone lulls, you know, Moody did kick six field goals against the New York Jets.
01:06Yesterday in the red zone, they had their struggles.
01:08Can I ask you this question?
01:10You and I both think that Brant Naik's very good, right?
01:13Is he Justin Jefferson?
01:15Clearly not, I don't think many people were saying that though, so let's be fair here.
01:19He's a very good player, you just invested $30 million into him, right?
01:23And we can argue about whether that's even appropriate on this team, because they're
01:26a run-first team.
01:28How does a guy who we talked all offseason about get his second target with 5.55 to go
01:35in the third quarter?
01:36It's kind of wild.
01:38How?
01:39How are you not getting this guy involved?
01:41Now I'll listen to the, hey, he's just not up to speed, and blah blah blah blah, like,
01:46that's a game you needed playmakers to go out there and make plays.
01:49Get coach!
01:50Let's go!
01:51Let's dial something up for this guy!
01:53He's making $30 million!
01:55We spent all offseason talking about Brant Aiyuk.
01:57Come game time, Kyle Juszczyk is getting targets 2-1!
02:02How does that happen?
02:03Well, he was going to D-Bowl a lot yesterday.
02:05D-Bowl was, it felt like the man featured, and then Juwan Jennings made some big plays
02:09there in the past game as well, but Aiyuk, I'm not sure if he's, again, I looked at the
02:14first play of the game, he got jabbed so hard off the line of scrimmage.
02:18I don't see the same swagger.
02:20Maybe it's the haircut.
02:21I don't like the fact that he cut the dredge, he went to the braids now, so he cut it down
02:24a little bit.
02:25It's not the haircut.
02:26I know it's not the haircut, Shask.
02:27I'm just throwing it out there.
02:28Relax.
02:29But I don't know.
02:30I don't know.
02:31That's a good question from Baldy.
02:32I was watching back, I was just like, alright, maybe that was just part of the game plan.
02:37Part of the game plan, but they gotta get him rolling, there's no doubt about that.
02:41But one thing is, they missed McCaffrey, and that's something we're going to talk about
02:44here all throughout the week.
02:46He's on IR, folks, and I don't believe he's missing four games.
02:50Again, last week I mentioned that it will be, in my mind, here's how Abonte Hill is
02:54rolling for the rest of the year.
02:56In my mind, whatever they get from Christopher McCaffrey is an absolute bonus.
03:00I'm not expecting nothing from 23, because I have questions.
03:04Is it just the Achilles?
03:06Is it the calf?
03:07Is he overcompensating for the Achilles?
03:08Is there another?
03:09Like, what's going on here?
03:10Is there more to the equation with Christopher McCaffrey?
03:13So McCaffrey not being involved in a pass game, now you're missing that running back
03:17out of the backfield that all these teams have.
03:20All these good teams have a back out of the backfield where they can check it down to
03:23to get you in third and one situations, third and two situations, and they're going to miss
03:28that.
03:29Is there somebody on the street they can sign who can replenish that?
03:31Is Kareem Hunt ready to roll?
03:32I don't know.
03:33But you're missing Christopher McCaffrey in the passing game.
03:36But I hear you on that, but you have enough playmakers on this team to be able to move
03:41the ball properly.
03:43They moved the ball yesterday.
03:45They moved the ball that time.
03:46Situationally, I thought they were behind the sticks all day.
03:48They were behind the sticks all day.
03:49You know, they were behind the sticks all day, and they didn't pass protect well.
03:53And so Purdy was running for his life.
03:55There were three different occasions where Purdy had to look down because the rush is
03:58coming and climb the pocket, and he rushed a throw, which I'm not even mad at Purdy.
04:03We can talk about other passes that he's missed.
04:05That's fine.
04:06I thought it was an OK game from Brock Purdy.
04:08He actually made an unbelievable throw to George Kittle over the middle.
04:12He made a couple of really nice throws, and Debo made some great, you know, contorted,
04:16twisting catches in traffic.
04:19But you have to give that man time to throw the ball as well.
04:22And I thought that he was under duress all game.
04:24They were sending five when the Niners were ready for four.
04:26Like they did a really good job staying ahead of them.
04:29Well, they confused Brock Purdy a lot yesterday.
04:31And then he made a couple of scramble plays and throws to Juice and throws to Debo on
04:34the sideline that were like, wow, those are nice plays.
04:37But to me, it's like when you have Kittle and you have Debo and you have Ayuk, I'll
04:41hear you on Christian in the passing game.
04:42There's no doubt.
04:43But you ran the ball 12 for 72 in the first half.
04:46And you still have three really, really, really good pass targets.
04:50I'm sorry.
04:51You got to score more than 17 points.
04:53I agree.
04:54There's no doubt about that.
04:55It's no doubt about that.
04:56888-957-9570.
04:57Let's go to Ria in Lancaster.
04:58You know, it's football season.
04:59You know, I know it's it's a down household right now with your husband being a Cowboy
05:05fan, but he has nothing to talk about right now, Ria.
05:08Oh, it was bad yesterday.
05:10We were at the sports bar.
05:11He was ready to leave, like, way before his game was even over.
05:15I was like, no, my game is I'm still competitive right now.
05:18We're not going anywhere.
05:19What you got?
05:20Break down the game for us.
05:21Good morning.
05:22Let me start by saying, thanks to heaven, we have Fred Warner.
05:29This man, I feel like we don't even pay him enough and he better be a night or for life.
05:35I don't want him going anywhere because his heart, everybody needs to have a little bit
05:39of what he has inside to want to get these wins, you know, handled.
05:45But I also wanted to say, Kyle Shanahan, I recognize him trying to change a little bit
05:51going forward on fourth and goal, but why are you passing on fourth and goal?
05:54Why aren't you running the ball?
05:55I was like, what is that, Kyle?
05:57And do you not have a fourth quarter hurry up offense team on that laminated sheet of
06:04yours?
06:05Like we need to hurry up.
06:06What are you doing?
06:07No huddles.
06:09This is wasting time.
06:10These huddles.
06:11Let's go.
06:12Let's go.
06:13We need to get the ball back.
06:14Even if we score, we're still down.
06:15Why are you wasting time with huddles?
06:16You know, but I'm not going to panic.
06:19I'm going to be at SoFi on Sunday.
06:21I'll mature for a get right.
06:23Let's get back.
06:24Let's get a winning streak going again.
06:27I just hope we can overcome this loss.
06:30This was bad.
06:31Can they overcome the loss of Christian McCaffrey long term?
06:35I think they can.
06:36He just has to be different.
06:39He has to be.
06:40He has to spread it around more.
06:42I don't know.
06:43He has to just be more creative.
06:44He has to be more creative.
06:45I respect that.
06:46Good to hear from you, dear.
06:48You know, she made a point about Fred Warner.
06:49It's going to get lost in this game.
06:51You were referencing it in our group thread.
06:53I mean, he made two legendary plays.
06:55He's the best defensive player of football.
06:58He may be one of the best players in football.
07:00And there's no doubt in my mind that he's the most important defensive player on the
07:04San Francisco 49ers.
07:05God forbid anything happens to him because they were on the interception play before
07:09the play pre-snap.
07:10They're scrambling around.
07:11He's like telling people to line up right and Fred makes this unbelievable play with
07:15the outstretched arms.
07:16Now, the safety may pick it off afterwards, but Fred grabbing that ball, saving the game.
07:21They're about to be down 17, nothing.
07:23And then the fumble with Aaron Jones.
07:24I was ready to check out at that play.
07:26I was like, this game's cooked.
07:27If Fred Warner comes up with that plan, I'm like, oh, my gosh, these guys may release
07:31the loose game.
07:32His knack to punch the ball out is uncanny.
07:35He did it to Darnold on the sidelines, too, where Darnold was scrambling.
07:38He made a great play to stay in front of Aaron Jones on a toss play where it was just him
07:42and Aaron Jones.
07:44I'm ready to say it, and I know people are like, oh, no.
07:47Right now, at minimum, he's equivalent to Patrick Willis.
07:52To me, they're equivalent, right, for their eras.
07:54This is the gold standard linebacker for his era.
07:57Pat was the gold standard linebacker for his era.
07:59They're equivalents.
08:00They're peers.
08:02One is not higher than the other.
08:03It's okay to say it.
08:04The other thing that I want to say about the clock management, Shanahan, and Purdy, too,
08:11I'm granting Purdy a little leniency because he's only in his third year.
08:14He's a young player.
08:16Brady and Belichick sat down about a decade ago, and they were going over all of these
08:20specific spots in the game.
08:23Brady and Belichick determined that if it takes you about 15 to 35 seconds to complete
08:28a pass over the middle of the field, and get everybody to run up, depending on how
08:33deep those routes are run, and run another play, on second down, a slant that doesn't
08:39get you a first down or a big chunk is a waste of a play because you're fighting the clock.
08:44You have to throw that ball into the ground.
08:47On multiple occasions, they got into a situation where they were ready to kick a field goal
08:51or could have kicked a field goal or ran up and spiked the ball.
08:54Instead, what they're doing is running pass plays to Sobert in the middle of the field,
09:01allowing the clock to tick, tick, tick, tick.
09:05To me, it's equally on Shanahan.
09:07I take a little off of Purdy because he's still a young player.
09:10It's both, though.
09:11They've got to understand that.
09:12They both are culpable for this.
09:13Guys, they're giving the Sobert play over the middle because clock is their friend.
09:18In hindsight, look, in real time, I agree with Shanahan being aggressive.
09:23I want to go back to the fourth down play at the goal line.
09:26I heard Purdy after the game, he say, you know, our scheme, it allows that free rusher.
09:31Well, every time they run a five wide, I get flashbacks to the Super Bowl.
09:34PTSD when McDuffie, Troy McDuffie's blitzing there, and he's a free rusher, and he gets
09:38a PBU, a pass breakup.
09:40Well, Van Ginkle yesterday gets the pass breakup, and he's coming in as a free rusher.
09:46So the scheme that you're employing here with the five wide sets or the four wide sets,
09:51you're allowing a free rusher.
09:53We got to fix that because at the goal line, look, I'm OK with the decision.
09:59But those three points loomed large at the end of the game.
10:02Those are hitting points.
10:03The three points that you didn't get there and the three points that you gave up before
10:06halftime.
10:07Look, you kick the field goal.
10:09All of a sudden, Minnesota set up at the 20 yard line.
10:11There's no 97 yard touchdown, right?
10:13I mean, it's crazy in real time.
10:16I appreciate the aggressiveness.
10:18I did.
10:19I was like, wow.
10:20OK.
10:21You didn't have any big issue with it because you were pitting them back deep.
10:24But think about that.
10:25You don't get that.
10:26You give up the three points, and then at the end of the half, you give up a 13 to Justin
10:31Jefferson.
10:32And boom, situational football was just not playing yesterday.
10:35So all aspects, clock management, situational football, getting off the field on third down,
10:40when to go for it, when not to go for it, they just got out coached.
10:44They got out hit.
10:45That was the other thing.
10:46We're not talking about it enough.
10:48The Minnesota Vikings beat down the 49ers.
10:52They battered them.
10:53They're the more physical team and a team that prides itself on being physical.
10:56They punked the Niners yesterday and bullied them.
10:58There was one guy on both sides of the ball that did not back down, Fred Warner being
11:02one.
11:03Jordan Mason didn't back down either.
11:04I thought Jordan Mason had a hell of a game.
11:05Jordan Mason had a hell of a game.
11:06Second half, he did get bottled up.
11:07There's no doubt.
11:08And it became more of a passing game.
11:09B, he had a play, a couple of jump cuts that were ridiculous.
11:12One where he jumped through a tackle and then he shook.
11:16Jordan Mason doesn't.
11:18Look, he needed to come out of that game with 25 touches.
11:22I know he got the 20 rushes.
11:24I thought that they should have ran the ball down in the goal line a couple more times.
11:28That's personally my.
11:29No, we can argue about pass versus run and whatever.
11:31Throwing to Juwan Jennings on fourth down.
11:33I know Juwan's a clutch player for this team.
11:36You do have Kittle, you know, in the red zone, would love to see Kittle get ISOed in the
11:39red zone.
11:40I know he did have the red zone touchdown on the screen pass.
11:43I just, I just thought they got bullied.
