00:00It's the King of Sting from the King of Collectibles. Here's a look at the brand of McFarlane toys, Movie Maniacs, Rocky's, Apollo Creed.
00:21Rocky is a small-time Philadelphia boxer going nowhere until an unbelievable shot to fight the world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed
00:29lights a fire inside him.
00:31I think it would be safe to assume if you're into Rocky collectibles,
00:34then you're not going to leave out the Count of Montefisto.
00:36Just before we get a closer look though at the Movie Maniacs, Rocky, Apollo Creed,
00:39I'd like to thank if I can the folks over at McFarlane Toys.
00:42They were kind enough to provide the sample we could have a look at. This guy is available either in stores or online.
00:47Not seeing them in stores at least, I looked online and the listings seem to list these at around
00:52$25 apiece, so they're not bad for pre-post statues.
00:55Apollo Creed though is going to stand at about six and a half inches in height, where the figure is going to be about 16
01:02centimeters tall. Now McFarlane Toys did provide both the regular and platinum editions.
01:06I wanted to look at though the regular one first.
01:09Funny though enough is that the regular and the platinum edition have the same limited quantity number at around
01:145,600 pieces worldwide.
01:16I was kind of surprised because I would have thought that the platinum edition would have had a lesser quantity,
01:20but both are 5,600. To compare it though along with the earlier looked at platinum edition Rocky, here is right there.
01:27I mean obviously you can also see too that they're using the exact same display stands.
01:30The only thing that's obviously different is not the world title necessarily on the front,
01:34but the name featured on the front placard. And hey, this is pretty cool. To come in clue with Creed,
01:38you get also as well the same cardboard background that came in clue with Rocky, although it's not the same.
01:43It's actually a mirror flip. Just going to move these guys out of the way for a second.
01:47We're going to put down the one that came in clue.
01:48I think this is the one that came in clue with Apollo Creed.
01:50Just watch me actually mix the two up. This was for Apollo Creed.
01:53This is the one for Rocky. If you put the two together, you actually get yourself the entire ring.
01:58Just slide these a little bit further forward and then you can put yourself, of course, Rocky on one side.
02:02You can put you then yourself Apollo Creed on the other and that's a nice way of displaying it. If again,
02:07you have the space available.
02:09Apollo pretty much gets the same things that Rocky got before. That he comes with a trading card.
02:13He comes with a display stand, an interchangeable head sculpt and then he also comes with a silver bag.
02:17That's a mystery. Why don't we look at the mystery first? The bag actually just has a little perforation there on the top.
02:22So we'll just quickly rip this across.
02:25I would imagine it's probably something similar to what we got with Rocky and let's just open this up to find out if that's true.
02:30Pulling out the contents, you're probably gonna have two things. Yeah, okay, two things inside and the first thing we're gonna get.
02:35Oh, it's not actually anything relating to Apollo Creed. Southpaws ought to be banned. Love that.
02:41Well, I guess it is somewhat similar.
02:43Also this one here, the direct from ringside, popular prices, fight pictures, battle of the champions, in color,
02:49Rocky Balboa versus Apollo Creed, the rematch of the century for the heavyweight championship.
02:54Just to remind you guys in case you have short-term memory,
02:56here's also the things that we got included with Rocky. Rocky got a Rocky Balboa kind of a poster sticker.
03:01And he also got this one as well. All I want to do is go the distance.
03:05It's little stickers. I'm gonna be making use of these. As you can already see, I haven't yet put these in my sticker albums,
03:10but they'll be going in there shortly after this review. The fact that we actually have ourselves Mickey,
03:14that's gonna be an awesome looking sticker to put somewhere. I'm gonna probably have to put that in the front, front and center.
03:19Let's move those all off to the side. The figure also as well comes included with the trading card. The trading card this time does
03:24feature Apollo, just a little bit different though from the earlier looked at Rocky.
03:28Still has though the name on the side, still has Rocky in the bottom corner.
03:31Luckily though, Apollo Creed's card isn't though as curved as you can see. My Rocky card, boy,
03:37I don't know if it just was the way it came out of the packaging. You can see it's curved on the sides.
03:41I'm gonna see if I can straighten that out, but very much somewhat similar cards.
03:45And then on the back, you both got certificate of authenticities. This one though for Apollo was listed as P3 out of 5600.
03:52Obviously the one for Rocky earlier was P15 out of 6400 and it's signed by Todd himself.
03:57Obviously, that's not the real signature.
03:59It's just a just a printing on there, but still. And then of course you also get as well the versus sign.
04:04You want to make sure it's facing the right way or that's what SV. SV, that doesn't make any sense at all.
04:08S is first of all going the wrong way. Same thing though that we got with Rocky and it's slotted the exact same way.
04:13So it's just, it's essentially using the exact same mold. You take yourself Apollo Creed and using that little provided slot,
04:19you just fit the card inside of that. You have to kind of put it right in the middle. If you put it off to the
04:23side, obviously it's not gonna hold it very well at all, but put it right front and center. That's gonna look nice.
04:28Yeah, that's gonna look real real nice.
04:29And of course if you wanted to, you could take Rocky even though it doesn't really belong to this character.
04:33You can also put it on the other side too. And two, even though like when we looked at earlier those cardboard backgrounds,
04:38even though they've done away with the idea of that curved cardboard background that would have came with the original movie Maniacs line,
04:43I'm still okay with the fact because I don't ever really display them with my movie Maniacs anyways.
04:48Let's just move these out of the way. The other thing that comes in clue with Apollo is his alternate head sculpt.
04:53Similar in vain to really Rocky is that one face is sort of a clean just before the fight. One is post after the fight.
04:59You can see he's definitely got more swellings of the eyes.
05:02Just to show you though the contrast of the two different head sculpts, again,
05:05you've got the cleaner looking face, the unbruised, unbattered face for Apollo Creed to start things off.
05:11And then again, you got your battered face though that you can change off things with.
05:14By the way, though, this whole time
05:16I didn't really mention the differences between this one and the Platinum Edition.
05:19Unlike Rocky, Rocky would have had for the regular white trunks and then for the Platinum
05:23he would have had red trunks. Now for Apollo, the trunks are actually very much similar.
05:27The only thing that's really different is the coloring of the red and the blue. For the the Platinum Edition,
05:32it's gonna have actually slightly lighter red stripes,
05:34and it's gonna have slightly lighter blue stripes on the top there and also down below. That seems to really be the only thing
05:40that's different. I think the socks and the boots are pretty much almost the identical.
05:44They might be a little bit different.
05:45Obviously when we look at those, we're gonna be comparing the two. Going though back to the displaced end,
05:49which we did kind of start things off first.
05:51The one thing I was kind of thinking when we were looking at Rocky, I'm gonna put Rocky's here front and center as well.
05:56I keep saying front and center.
05:57One thing I was kind of curious about when we were gonna be looking at Apollo, when we looked at Rocky,
06:02remember he had these little square pegs right here that look like they were gonna be covering over something that as maybe a peg
06:07down the road. As you can see though, there's there's two on the front,
06:12there's one on the back. If you look though at Apollo's, they're placed at the exact same spot.
06:17So the placement movement of the pegs hasn't changed at all for Apollo,
06:21but I'm wondering though if that's still gonna be a tease for a down-the-road release figure. Maybe a clubber laying?
06:26I don't know. Maybe an Ivan Drago?
06:27You never know. We might even get ourselves a figure and that might make real reasons
06:32then why these are these are covered over right now. They don't serve a purpose for Rocky.
06:35They certainly don't serve a purpose here for Apollo, but they may those serve a purpose for a future fight in ring fighter.
06:41So you never know. The detailing though on the front again,
06:44you've got Apollo Creed now branded on the front, unlike the Rocky from before. Gold is nice though.
06:49It still hasn't changed at all. So you got the side medallion plates.
06:52Those are done in gold in the front and center one. There it goes saying it again.
06:55The one medallion in the middle there is all again nicely painted in gold.
06:59You got the stripes on the sides. Paint generally for the most part,
07:02I don't really have any complaints at all. Things that like the smallest details would be the ones that could be missed.
07:07Stars though on the sides of his boots, the stripes on the shoes as well.
07:10Nothing looks messy at all for the figure.
07:13And of course as we move our way up to the focus of the face, Head Sculpt is fantastic on this.
07:19Delivering again a knockout blow. Really that looks a lot like Apollo Creed,
07:22whether again you decide to go with this face or you want to go with the other one instead.
07:26I think the Head Sculpt is good.
07:27The only thing I would say though is like his face seems a little lighter here down below by the bottoms of his cheeks.
07:33That to compare it with the rest of his body, I think his body is a slightly darker color, but it's pretty close though.
07:38One thing it's too is also the way they've made the head removable.
07:42So essentially the head's gonna come off like this.
07:45Just pop that off for a second and you can see it basically works the exact same way as Rocky's.
07:50But though when you're putting it back on and it has to kind of go a certain way when you're putting it back on,
07:55it really does follow the line all the way around the bottom of his hairline.
07:59It falls just below his ears. It follows just all around his chin area.
08:03It really conceals where that head is gonna be removable.
08:06That to look at this, I'd have a harder time really to see it on Apollo than I would for Rocky.
08:11Rocky's, as you could see, with the way that his neck was exposed like that,
08:15you can see there's a lot more of a very visible line right there.
08:18I don't see it though as much with Apollo.
08:20Now again, this is his starting head sculpt. If you did want to change things out though, we'll just pop the head off.
08:26There we go. It's a little also tighter than Rocky's.
08:29Quicker, just a quick chance to show you guys what the face sculpt looks like.
08:33Really nice on the eyes.
08:35Between the eyebrows and then the mustache. He's got quite a large looking mustache on the front of his face.
08:39Really the coloring is just incredible on this figure. Now again, there's this one. There's also as well this one.
08:45This would be a good one for displaying, like if you want to display this with Rocky.
08:49I mean if he eventually, down the road, we get ourselves an Ivan Drago, ideally,
08:53that would be a good head sculpt for that. Or it will also be a head sculpt would be like...
08:57Too soon? Maybe too soon.
08:59The change the heads out, again, when you're looking at the bottom of him, the peg placement is very important.
09:04I mean, you can't just like put the head facing forward this way. Obviously, it doesn't make any sense anyways.
09:07You have to turn it to the side.
09:09And if anything, just kind of look at where the line lines up to the hairline and that'll be kind of your guide.
09:14Just plug that in place. Make sure it's snapped all the way in place. And now again, you've got this version of Apollo's face.
09:20Ideally though, until we eventually look at the the Platinum Edition,
09:23I might, like I'd done with Rocky, when eventually I get both of them,
09:27I'll display, I think, one with the clean face and then the other one with the battered face.
09:31Very nice on both head sculpts. Really, really good. So like for his gloves, again, you got the nice bright red.
09:36No mishaps at all when it comes to paint. Now, whereas Balboa, for example, Rocky Balboa, would have had that printed on his glove.
09:43Apollo doesn't have that. He basically just has these these rectangular. They're not even really rectangles either.
09:48Just the little markings there in black. The taping on the gloves looks clean as well.
09:53And again, like everything really on the figure,
09:55I keep really wanting to call this figure the statue.
09:58Clean on the stripes for the red and of course, you've got the stars there on the side.
10:01I would imagine this would probably be factory printed rather than hand painted, just for how meticulous each one of those stars look.
10:08But nothing is off aligned. None of the stars look like they've been misprinted.
10:12It's a really well painted statue. And then, of course, down below, we kind of started the review near the down below here.
10:18We've got tied off laces, stars nicely painted there as well, and the stripes alternating in red, white and blue. Again, nicely painted too.
10:25All in all, like really nice looking statue. If you're a big fan of Rocky,
10:28I would imagine you probably already have this one in your sights. And again, just slide this one over, bring in the Rocky.
10:33You know what? Seeing as he is... I mean, we're near the end of this fight after all.
10:37Let's pop that head off and replace it with the battered Rocky head sculpt. Yeah, that's a good way of displaying the figures.
10:42I suppose ideally they could have also had the plates of the...
10:47Well, seeing the way they've displayed them,
10:49obviously the idea in mind is if you only have one of them or if you just really like to have them more displayed as statues,
10:54you're probably gonna want them facing forward.
10:55It would have been really cool if they found a way to have this rotating.
10:59I mean, obviously they were adding extra things to the molds,
11:01but if they had rotated this, for example, where like this disc,
11:04this was a separate piece from the base inside, and we'd be able to rotate it.
11:09I know, I know we wouldn't be able to do that. If you say would be able to turn it,
11:12then if you were to have them face to face, neck to neck, and ready to go,
11:15blows with one another, then you can have then the name placards facing outward this way. All in all,
11:21I'm really happy with this line so far. Now again,
11:23this is the platinum edition, or this is a regular version of Apollo Creed,
11:26whereas we looked at the platinum edition of Rocky.
11:28Again, we will be looking though at the platinum edition version of Rocky of Apollo Creed.
11:33The only thing different again with when it comes to Apollo Creed when it comes to platinum is that it's more just the coloring of
11:38his trunks. Not as big of a change as what we got with Rocky, because Rocky again was basically swapping the colors around.
11:43Apollo keeps the colors pretty consistent.
11:45The only thing that's different is the coloring of the red and the blue are just slightly lighter.
11:49Still not sure why Apollo Creed's platinum edition limited quantity number is the exact same as the regular 5600.
11:55I would think that the platinum edition should have a lesser quantity,
11:59but it may not necessarily be the case that a lesser quantity would increase the value of it.
12:03It's just a choosing of which colors you prefer, or if you'd like to have both versions of the different colored trunks,
12:08then just get the platinum and the regular versions.
12:10It's not necessarily that one's gonna be a little bit harder to come by.
12:13Granted though, I haven't had a chance to find any of these at local stores.
12:16These are though available online through various online sites. Where you normally go to get your McFarland stuff will be the same places
12:23you'll go and get your stuff when you want to get your hands on Apollo Creed.
12:26The price of these are gonna go for around $25, I think around $25.99 on most sites,
12:31so around $26, and that gets you not necessarily a poseable Apollo,
12:35but what it does give you though is a well painted statue. If you're liking the line so far of what we're getting with Movie
12:41Maniacs, and you're certainly a big fan of Rocky, Apollo Creed will be definitely one
12:45you'll want to add to your collection.
