00:00Before watching the video, let me remind you that there is more content on the Hotpot website.
00:05The UN Environment Agency revealed in a report in 2023 that humans produce more than 4.3 billion tons of plastic every year.
00:11Two-thirds of them are products that use a very short lifespan, such as plastic bags, food packaging, etc.
00:17About 20 million tons of plastic waste will eventually flow into the lakes, rivers and oceans.
00:25In the second largest city of Kenya, Mombasa, at least 16 tons of plastic waste is produced every day.
00:31Only 5% of it will be recycled and used.
00:34The rest of the plastic waste will eventually flow into the ocean.
00:37Therefore, a local startup has mobilized to collect plastic waste on the beach,
00:42process the recycled plastic waste, and turn it into new tables and chairs in school classrooms.
00:49After putting the plastic waste into the machine and cutting it into pieces,
00:53then compressing it into a wooden board at a high temperature,
00:55then cutting the plastic board,
00:58and finally assembling them with an air nail gun,
01:00the new tables and chairs will be ready to go.
01:03These tables and chairs were made by a new startup company in Kenya,
01:06which recycled the recycled plastic waste from the beach.
01:11The company founder said that he did not want his childhood experience to happen to Kenyan students again.
01:17I remember when I was young, there was this challenge which I faced,
01:21which is I had one set on a desk which was broken and which was chipped.
01:25So this is really painful to see that the same same problem which was there when I was in primary school is still in existence today.
01:32The public health organization said that if people continue to ignore plastic waste and throw it away,
01:38in the end, the plastic waste that flows into the ocean will enter the human food chain, and the consequences will be severe.
01:44There are three types of plastic waste.
01:49The first one is the small one,
01:52and the second one is the big one,
01:55and the third one is the small one,
01:57and the fourth one is the big one.
01:59Recycling plastic waste from the ocean will not only protect the environment,
02:03but also improve the learning environment for students.
02:05This is definitely a win-win situation.
