Forecasters at NOAA are predicting an above-normal hurricane season.
Transcript
00:00 An above normal hurricane season.
00:02 That is what Noah is predicting for 2024.
00:06 Hi, I'm meteorologist Janette Gallardo.
00:09 A typical hurricane season will see
00:11 the development of 14 named storms.
00:14 Forecasters at NOAA are predicting
00:16 between 17 to 25 named storms this hurricane season.
00:21 They are also predicting that four to seven of those
00:24 will go on to become major hurricanes.
00:28 That is of category three or higher strength.
00:31 A typical Atlantic hurricane season
00:33 will see three major hurricanes.
00:36 Now the reason for this prediction
00:38 is we are already seeing near record warm temperatures
00:41 in the Atlantic, as well as the development
00:44 of La Nina conditions over the Pacific
00:47 and reduced trade winds in the Atlantic.
00:50 All of these factors combined
00:51 do favor a very active hurricane season.
