00:00 Guys, it's great to see you both. This is absolutely amazing. I loved it so much. Proper edgier seek type stuff
00:07 It takes quite a lot to impress me when it comes to the stunt work now because I've actually done some stunt work myself
00:12 Way so I did some last week for the first time. It's so hard. Oh my god
00:17 Well, I learned like a basic sequence and it was like really basic and even for me I was like
00:25 This is so hard because how many bruises have you got?
00:27 Well quite a few but I'm from Glasgow though, so I'm quite resilient
00:32 I was watching this and I was thinking how how have you done this?
00:36 Yeah, I I you know, I was like a crash test dummy for the stuntman. Let's just say that
00:42 The action is incredible in the film
00:45 One of the things that I think may be going on with with the action why it's so immersive
00:50 Is because you do you have the the director learning all the moves?
00:54 And I feel like the best action sequences kind of feel like the audience gets to be the main character kicking ass
01:00 and so however, you know the way you directed it was definitely infused by knowing these
01:07 Energy of it. Yeah. Yeah completely
01:09 So what I was struggling with was it's like choreography and it's having to remember it
01:13 But it's also like going against your instinct because obviously being from Glasgow. I was like, I would just do that
01:18 How can you do that?
01:20 How can you be in that zone right but then also directing like Deb how my mind is blown? Yeah. Thank you
01:27 I think it's just um being you know, just trying to make it as as
01:32 Primal and as carnal as possible, you know
01:35 We were trying to fight against the nature of it feeling like choreography where you're literally seeing the actor mouth the moves
01:41 But it's it's we wanted to create a sense of desperation in the film someone that's really fighting for survival and doesn't have all the tools
01:49 and
01:51 Yeah, and I believe it was a real labor of love. I heard a lot of things went wrong. You broke your hand
01:57 Yeah, yeah, yeah foot hand on shoulder
02:00 Lots of lots of things was there any point where you thought maybe this is the universe trying to tell me to just leave that
02:06 alone at one point I
02:08 At least every person on the set thought I was insane at one moment or another, you know
02:13 If you were directing that's like you would have to stop
02:16 Yeah, the fact that the main the main actor was was getting in
02:20 Yeah, I mean when I when I first saw the cut that you first showed me I was just instantly blown away by the same
02:30 Thing it's like how do you do all the the things?
02:33 But you know even even if you just take as a director just as a film
02:39 This was just a throwback to I feel like when films were good, you know
02:44 Do you want to punch him just check he's real
02:46 And listen, I love the reaction you guys go it's a by Southwest
02:54 Oh, I love a stand-in ovation. How was that? I know it was emotional
02:58 It was crazy because you know, I haven't done something in a second. So I was so I was genuinely worried
03:03 I was like, it's anyone gonna turn up and then as we're driving in there was like three blocks down
03:09 There was this queue and I was like, I think I lost someone in the car
03:12 I was like, it's Ryan Gosling's movie today and then I know they're here for you and we went in
03:17 Jordan obviously showed up and everyone insane he and then when the movie played, you know
03:23 People were gasping in unison laughing
03:26 Yelping and and and you know for the audience except it won the audience award and yeah
03:32 You know from one moment the film wasn't even gonna get released until Jordan came in
03:36 So - from that - winning the audience award is is huge
03:40 I've never seen a reception like that at South by I mean and I was tell I was way more
03:45 Optimistic before I was yeah. Yeah, I was telling like look they're gonna they're gonna love I knew but um, yeah
03:51 I mean, I know there's you know, they don't they don't do standing O's and like that. So yeah, it was a really great
03:58 Night, is there a part though of you when you're gonna stand in a basement?
04:03 You think right set down everybody that's getting awkward now just set down
04:06 It was I was nowhere to hide and like I felt so exposed and you you were like awful
04:11 I was trying to find I wasn't I wasn't coming. Yeah
04:13 So I didn't I didn't know what to do and so I kind of was like just I turned away
04:20 I got a bit teary. It was very it's cringy but
04:22 Yeah, and just finally then because so much has gone into this film
04:27 How relieved do you feel that it's out there and people are loving it already? I
04:34 Mean, it's it's a blessing like I to be able to you know
04:38 I've had like two hours sleep just flown in and I I woke up and I'm like, you know
04:42 How lucky am I to be talking about something that I love so dearly, you know
04:46 And I've worked so hard on to be in this position sitting next to this incredible gentleman
04:51 It's it's a true dream. I just went and when we first talked I think one of my first thing I was like
04:58 I was so excited because I felt like you're gonna about to go on this crazy journey
05:03 Like and and I know what that that feels like and
05:06 Yeah, this is it man
05:08 People love it. Honestly, I can't wait to watch it again. It's so good
05:13 You are such an inspiration both of you to like bring this to the screen and the amount of grafts for
05:18 Anyone can ever match that honestly. Thank you guys
05:21 - Thank you. - Thank you so much.
