00:00 Hi there, Sussex World reporter Connor Gormley here and this is our daily news bulletin where
00:05 I run you through all the biggest stories from across both East and West Sussex today.
00:09 Passengers, air control staff and flight attendants breathed a collective sigh of relief last night
00:15 as a flight from Ibiza to London City Airport which was diverted to Gatwick touched down on
00:21 solid ground having wrestled with Storm Isha. The storm caused disruption across the airways,
00:26 it kept railway services leaving Crawley train station from travelling at anything more than
00:31 50 miles per hour and caused issues for motorists on Ifield Road when a fallen tree blocked the way.
00:38 It's causing problems up and down the country and Sussex is no exception. Elsewhere in Sussex
00:44 several towns were named the most depressing in the UK including Eastbourne, Haywardsheath,
00:49 Crawley, Wadhurst, Hastings, Bexhill, Bognor Regis, Chichester and Rye. It's all part of
00:55 I Live Here's yearly search for the worst places to live in the UK although this year's survey does
01:00 have a twist as the title suggests and judges are looking for the UK's most depressing towns
01:05 rather than simply the worst although personally if you ask me the difference seems largely
01:10 semantic but so far 153 towns have made the shortlist including those up above.
01:16 In later news a Sussex pub which closed down just before Christmas has reopened today.
01:22 The Backs Castle in Southwater announced its reopening after weeks of refurbishment works
01:27 and to celebrate it will be offering new beers, wine, spirits and an all-new food menu.
01:32 Pub landlords thanked regulars and passers-by for their interest and support and it seems like
01:37 they're looking forward to a really bright new chapter in the building's centuries-long history.
01:42 That's all from me news-wise for the minute but if you're looking for more news, more photos,
