Petworth House stars in Russel Crowe's latest, and Sussex pubs and hotels take home the gold in today's daily bulletin.
Transcript
00:00 Hi there, Conor Gormley here, a trainee reporter for Sussex World, and this is our daily bulletin
00:05 where I walk you through all the biggest stories across both East and West Sussex today.
00:10 Petworth House had a vital role to play in the production of Ridley Scott's latest
00:13 blockbuster epic, Napoleon, Sussex World has reported.
00:17 The property's grand rooms, French-style interiors and beautiful staircases provided
00:21 the backdrop for several key scenes in the biopic, which sees Joaquin Phoenix, I think
00:25 I said that right, in a title role and obviously follows Napoleon's life and career through
00:30 the military and building his empire.
00:33 The production team fell in love with Petworth House because its features are much more typically
00:36 French than English, which is obviously appropriate, and filming took place over two days.
00:41 It had 13 members of the principal cast on the site, with 120 supporting artists and
00:46 a 200 crew.
00:48 It was easily one of the biggest productions to ever take place at Petworth, and curators
00:52 at the property are hoping to use the proceeds to help continue to do their thing and curate
00:57 exhibitions.
00:58 Calhurst Park Lodges in Battle was crowned Best Relax and Explore Destination in the
01:03 South of England at this year's Host Seasons 17th Annual Awards.
01:07 Colin Simmons, manager of Calhurst Park Lodges, said the award represents the hard work and
01:13 commitment of his team.
01:14 "We are very proud of this award, not just because it's nice to be voted the best at
01:17 what we do, but also because it's a reflection of the hard work the team puts into looking
01:21 after our guests," he said.
01:23 In similar news, a family-owned pub in Salehurst has been named Community Pub of the Year by
01:27 the Campaign for Real Ale.
01:29 For those in the know, it was really no surprise.
01:31 The pub's been going for 17 years and locals know it very well for the quality of its beers,
01:36 its gorgeous south-facing garden, its seasonal menu, and for its palpable sense of community
01:42 spirit.
01:43 It's a very, very community-orientated pub.
01:46 But that's all from me today.
