00:00 I know you guys saw the statement that we put out on Jonathan.
00:03 I have nothing to add on that front, but
00:05 I will say that tonight was a phenomenal night.
00:08 The crowd was great.
00:09 The energy was great.
00:11 We got really good work on both sides of the ball and special teams.
00:14 With that, I'll take questions about practice.
00:16 >> What have you guys seen in Orlick to Hambrick?
00:18 Feels like he's- >> Yeah, he's got some good physicality.
00:21 He's a smart player.
00:22 He's got good movement skills.
00:23 I like where he's at and continue to give him reps.
00:25 >> Versatile guy?
00:26 >> What's that?
00:27 Very versatile.
00:27 He can play inside and outside.
00:29 >> Shane, you obviously watched a lot of your offense.
00:30 What were your takeaways from that?
00:32 >> It was good. There was some good.
00:33 And there's things that have got to get cleaned up.
00:35 But I could go back and watch the tape.
00:36 But I did like the energy they played with.
00:38 And again, I got to go back and really, really say the thing.
00:41 >> Penalties, some of the- >> Yeah, the penalties.
00:42 Obviously, we had the penalty right there.
00:44 It started a two-minute drive.
00:45 We hit a big one down the seam.
00:46 And then we had a legal formation that hurt us right there.
00:49 So we backed it up.
00:49 We played that two-minute drive like it would be in the game.
00:52 >> What impressed you the most about Anthony today?
00:55 >> Shooting, he made some good throws.
00:57 Obviously, he had some really good runs in the zone re-game.
00:59 And then he made some good throws along the way.
01:02 And there's things that we got to clean up.
01:03 But I was excited about high play.
01:06 >> Were there some learning experiences where,
01:09 they look at sometimes where it's like, you saw a look he didn't, maybe wasn't-
01:12 >> Yeah, that's exactly what these
01:13 practices are for, right?
01:14 You get to go against another opponent, see different looks.
01:16 And it was good work for him tonight.
01:18 >> What's a Ryan Kelly get on with?
01:20 >> He has a foot.
01:20 >> True elbow strength?
01:23 >> He has a shoulder.
01:24 >> Did you feel like Anthony did a good job of taking what defense gave him?
01:27 Against defense like that, they try to- >> Yeah, he did.
01:29 I mean, we had called a few shots.
01:30 And then he checked one down to the back off play action,
01:32 which went down the sidelines for about 10 or 12, which was really good.
01:35 And that's great growth, right?
01:37 Like, don't force it, right?
01:38 Take the completions and move on from there.
01:40 And like I said, we'll watch the tape and get the corrections made.
01:43 >> Can you get young quarterbacks for permission, both the passers and runners?
01:47 How can you, what's the difficult,
01:48 is there a difficult balance in trying to utilize both of those skill sets?
01:52 >> Yeah, I've been asked that quite a bit.
01:53 Obviously, in Philly with Jalen and stuff, like how do you balance that?
01:56 I think you just go through it, and you see what's gonna work that week, right?
01:59 And you gotta be smart with it, and do what they do best, and
02:04 give yourself the best chance to win.
02:05 And whether that's him running it or throwing it, that's a week to week decision.
02:09 >> I'm sorry, what do you make of Fields?
02:11 Justin Fields out there, are there any similarities you saw in his brief time here?
02:16 >> Yeah, no, shoot, I remember him from last year.
02:18 He had a heck of a run against us in Philly, got called back.
02:20 But he's an explosive player.
02:22 I know he's got a bright future in this league.
02:24 I just got to see him when we came together there at the end, just for
02:27 a brief moment.
02:27 So I'll get to go back tonight and watch some more of the defensive stuff,
02:30 cuz I was down here on the offense.
02:32 >> He has an interception, seven on seven, kind of scare me.
02:35 I was like, that's just one where you're like, that's what we kinda have to clean up.
02:38 >> Yeah, that's the learning, right?
02:39 That's the learning, take what the defense gives you.
02:41 We gotta be on the same page there.
02:42 It starts with myself, starts with coaching, and we gotta get that cleaned up.
02:45 >> Was there any miscommunication or?
02:47 >> No, I mean, like I said, we just gotta be better there.
02:49 >> Shane with Josh Downs, what do you see in him?
02:52 >> Dude, he's done tremendous.
02:53 He runs great routes, he catches everything.
02:56 Really like his growth and where he's at right now.
02:58 >> That slot spot he was talking about, a lot of it's just feel.
03:01 Is there part of that position that you can't teach?
03:04 >> Yeah, there's a lot.
03:04 I mean, some of those routes that you run inside the slot,
03:07 those guys have a natural fear from.
03:09 The best ones in the league that are in the slot,
03:11 that kind of run those routes inside, have a great feel for them.
03:13 And sometimes it's like, I don't wanna get into the scheme stuff, but
03:17 those type of routes, you don't really wanna coach them.
03:19 Let their talent shine and let them take over and do what they do.
03:21 >> What happened with two guys at that spot who performed well in that slot spot?
03:26 >> Yeah, it was great.
03:26 It was great battle.
03:27 Isaiah and Downs shoot.
03:29 I mean, Isaiah made a huge play, made two guys miss and had an explosive there.
03:32 So I mean, I know those guys are competing like crazy.
03:35 It'll be fun to see how it all plays out.
03:36 >> So there could be a role for two guys at that one spot you play?
03:39 >> Yeah, we'll see how it plays out.
03:40 >> Shane, did you make a decision on Anthony playing Saturday?
03:43 >> I made a decision on him.
03:44 >> Did you talk to Gus about how your defense looked tonight?
03:47 Obviously you were watching.
03:47 >> No, I haven't had a chance to.
03:49 We just brought him up.
03:50 >> Shane McCabe, talking more?
03:51 >> Isn't it fair that every day he's in, Anthony,
03:53 he's gonna see something different?
03:55 It's gonna be a rewarding experience every game.
03:57 >> Yeah, I think with anything, shoot, I think from a rookie year to your year six,
04:01 seven, eight, nine, ten, you're still seeing stuff.
04:03 And then once you get past year 12, 13, and you're down the road,
04:06 like those guys have been doing for a while, they've probably seen it all.
04:09 So yeah, always learning, always growing, always improving.
04:12 >> What kind of unique challenges do you feel like this Bear secondary brought to
04:17 him today?
04:19 >> Shoot, they did some different looks and
04:20 different coverages than what we've seen.
04:22 So it was really good to see.
04:24 And then they got some good line movement up front that they're doing.
04:27 So it'll be good to go back and watch the tape and get the corrections made.
04:30 >> Why is good practice like this so important for this team's growth?
04:34 >> Well, I think it's great.
04:35 Just the energy and the competitive nature it brings out.
04:37 You go against each other in camp for so many weeks, and
04:39 now you get a chance to go get another opponent.
04:41 And again, it just brings up the level of energy and excitement for everybody.
04:45 And the players are fired up about it.
04:46 And as a coach, I love it.
