Chris Ballard on Free Agency: 'I Think We've Got More Flexibility'

The Indianapolis Colts are in a good spot financially heading into March's NFL free agency period.

00:04 A little bit of that is we're not paying a quarterback big money anymore.

00:11 And so we're gonna have some more flexibility.

00:15 And we'll always be prudent, but we'll be as aggressive as we need to be in

00:19 free agency with players that we think can help us.

00:24 And it's always dicey.

00:27 I think y'all know this.

00:29 Y'all see this, you're watching the league, okay?

00:32 And with free agency, it's not just about,

00:37 it's the fit of the player into the locker room.

00:41 And then whatever you're paying that player that he can earn and

00:46 is worth the amount of money you're paying him.

00:48 So it's a fine line.

00:49 >> And then?

00:51 >> Yeah, well, look, I mean,

00:52 we should legitimately be competing for the division in playoff.

00:55 I mean, that's our expectation.

00:57 That's really our expectation every year.

00:58 But I mean, I think that is really possible here going forward.

01:03 We had some injuries to some of these rookies that was a little frustrating,

01:11 but they were all legit.

01:13 But we got a lot of young players playing time.

01:15 And that's a good thing.

01:16 And even with Anthony, cuz I know we're gonna get into Anthony.

01:19 Even with the injury to Anthony, we don't know yet, but

01:24 we're encouraged about what we saw.

01:27 Let's don't crown him.

01:29 Let's don't stamp him yet.

01:30 I mean, we're not there, all right?

01:32 We got a lot of work to do and he has a lot of work to do.

01:35 But it's encouraging.

01:36 I think when he was playing, I think we were like 10th in explosive plays.

01:40 And it's an area that I think on both sides of the ball we need to improve.

01:44 We have to get more explosive on offense and

01:48 we have to be able to eliminate the explosives on defense.

01:52 But I think we're in the top 10 of the league when Anthony was playing.
