00:00 Is there a checklist of things that you think a squad needs to attend to in a World Cup
00:07 situation? Perhaps different from other situations?
00:15 No, I don't think so. I don't think that you need to treat a World Cup any different
00:19 to any other tournament that you play because at the end of the day it actually is no different.
00:24 It's a long tournament. I think the biggest thing you probably need to be wary of with
00:27 World Cups is just how hard you train, how often you train and don't use your whole tank
00:32 up too early in the tournament. I think that's the really important thing. It's easy to get
00:37 caught up in the hype and want to work harder and try harder and all those sort of things
00:43 around a World Cup and that's not the way it needs to be. If anything, I reckon you
00:47 can almost get a feeling of going into the first part of the tournament almost feeling
00:51 a little bit underdone and then try to build up and start playing your best cricket through
00:55 the middle of the tournament and towards the end and hopefully peak at the right time.
00:58 That's certainly what happened in good World Cup campaigns that I was a part of. These
01:02 boys are going really well now and we'll have a pretty light day for them tomorrow and a
01:07 light day on Friday and make sure that they're ready to go for a big test against England
01:11 on Saturday.
01:11 What do you see as the key to winning this World Cup?
01:14 I said a while ago, I think the way that we play spin and the way that we bowl spin I
01:20 think will have a big impact on where this Australian team goes in this tournament. We've
01:25 obviously got the fast bowling side of things really well under control and I think all
01:28 of our batsmen play fast bowling particularly well as well. It's been an area that this
01:32 team has been working hard at and trying to address for a long time and then you wind
01:36 the clock back a few weeks and the boys win a one day series in India against quality
01:40 spin bowling. All the hard work that they're doing there is starting to pay off. Once again,
01:45 those sort of things are great signs coming here.
01:50 What else do they need to work on?
01:51 I just think it's building on what they've been building on over the last few months.
01:56 You wind the clock back 12 months ago when there were some pretty dark scenes around
02:00 Australia's one day cricket or even three or four months ago it was pretty much the
02:03 same. That's long behind them now. They've got a group of players that have been together
02:08 for quite a while and know each other's roles. They know the roles that they need to play
02:12 on the team and I think if the boys can perform those roles anywhere near their best then
02:16 I think this team will be as hard to beat as anybody else.
