Daryl Mitchell said it will be a big result if New Zealand can win the T20 series in Sri Lanka. Mitchell hit the winning runs as New Zealand beat Lasith Malinga’s side by five wickets in the first T20 in Pallekele on Sunday (September 1). While Malinga claimed his 99th wicket to move top of the all-time list in the format, it was the 79-run stand between Ross Taylor (48) and Colin de Grandhomme (44), coupled with a strong bowling performance from Tim Southee (2/20), that stole the show and helped the visitors seal the deal. The three-match series resumes at the same venue on Tuesday (September 3). Video courtesy (NZC)

00:00 Alright Daz, it's been probably about an hour since you were out in the middle of the Pallor Kelly Stadium.
00:04 You must be pinching yourself mate, what a match.
00:06 Yeah, no, it was pretty cool to obviously get the win and get a job done for the boys.
00:10 Yeah, no, we're pretty happy.
00:11 I suppose when you're coming through the grades you dream about playing for your country,
00:14 then your next dream is about winning a game for your country, so what was that like?
00:17 Yeah, it was obviously cool to be out there with Mitch at the end there and get the winning runs.
00:20 Obviously Ross and Dutch did a great job in the middle there to set it up and it was just nice to finish the job.
00:26 What was the atmosphere like?
00:27 It was pretty loud, I think it was 20,000 people all screaming at you the whole time.
00:31 That's why you want to play international cricket, is to play in front of crowds and do your job.
00:36 Have you ever had anything like that before?
00:38 Yeah, lucky enough we went to Champions League with ND a few years ago, but nothing from New Zealand, so that's pretty cool.
00:43 What were you telling yourself in those moments?
00:46 I guess you've done all the work, you believe in the skills you've got and you just back yourself.
00:51 Luckily enough it came off today.
00:54 How challenging was it facing Lasith Malinga, but also the other fellow who was bowling him out the back of the hand?
01:00 Yeah, obviously different conditions to back home and the wicket was holding up quite slow towards the end.
01:04 I think the rain probably helped a little bit, made it skid on a little bit.
01:07 But that's why you play international cricket, challenge yourself against the best in the world
01:11 and there's probably no one better in T20 cricket than Malinga.
01:14 And just lastly, how much did the boys take from that match?
01:23 Yeah, obviously to go 1-0 up in the series, I think it was quite a challenging score
01:28 and the way the boys stood up in the middle to win that, we'll take that definitely
01:31 and now we've just got to win one more to win the series and get the job done.
01:34 And a few work-ons for the games going forward?
01:36 Yeah, obviously there's a lot of things we can get better at.
01:38 I think with the ball we probably weren't happy with how we went about it, especially at the end there.
01:42 With the bat losing three early wickets, hopefully we can set a better platform, but that's T20 cricket, things happen.
01:47 And the fielding?
01:48 Yeah, obviously drop catches you never like to see, but the boys are giving that their all.
01:52 They're diving around and that's just part of the game.
01:54 Dez, can you wait behind the lobby? I'll interview you before you go on.
02:08 Yeah, good.
02:09 Alright, let's go eat.
02:10 All dogs?
02:32 All dogs.
02:33 All dogs.
02:35 All dogs.
