11:37So what happened?
11:38I was 24 years old, and a 600-pound weight machine tipped over on top of me.
11:44It shattered two vertebrae in my neck and paralyzed.
11:47God.
11:48Freak injury.
11:50I was working as a physical therapist assistant and a newly licensed massage therapist.
11:56I was at work one day, and a 600-pound weight machine tipped over on me, and I fell back, and it shattered two vertebrae in my neck.
12:05And laying on the ground, I couldn't feel my body at all.
12:09When it happened, I had no movement, couldn't move my arms, anything.
12:13And I'm from Buffalo.
12:14We had nowhere to go for rehab, so I ended up going down to a specialized center in Atlanta, Georgia.
12:20I spent probably a decade down there.
12:22So how long ago was this, the injury?
12:2517 years.
12:2617 years.
12:27Yeah.
12:28Wow.
12:29I mean, they call it a catastrophic injury because it is.
12:32Every aspect of your life changes.
12:34So I felt like I really lost my purpose in life because I felt that I was a healer with my hands.
12:42I soon realized after a lot of therapy and then the experience of living as a person with a spinal cord injury, I don't need my hands to heal.
12:52So God has definitely directed me in a very different path.
12:59Then I moved back to Buffalo, started my own recovery center that just opened this past year.

13:07Yeah.
13:08I started a nonprofit.
13:10Wow.
13:11That's amazing.
13:13This injury changed Natalie in every way possible.
13:17And as her mom, those were some hard times.
13:20But she overcame those and got to a place where she's living life to the best.
13:27And I'm just so proud of her.
13:29I found love and here I am now trying on dresses.

13:37I want, you know, with sitting, obviously not a ball gown, anything with like crazy amount of material.

15:03So it's pretty crazy that we both kind of have been through this major trauma.
15:09And he's just a good man.
