Walsall head to Wembley for League Two play-off final - George Bennett and Nathan Judah analysis
Transcript
00:00Hello Nathan Judo, I'm here with Walsall Report, it is Mr George Brennett, very smiley George Brennett, Walsall 2, Chesterfield 1, 4-1 on aggregate, and over the two legs, they thoroughly deserved it, didn't they?
00:13Absolutely, and that was a fantastic night for tonight, drama all round, I mean, it was such a nail-biting occasion for the first 80 odd minutes.
00:25Yeah, and then two substitutes combined, Charlie Lakin at the back post, Robert Odoma's cross, to send the crowd wild, a tense moment at the end there, where Amanda Odoma equalised, but immediately at the other end of the pitch, Levi Romanchi at the back post, heading home, obviously the fans spilled onto the pitch, it was absolute chaos.
00:47Yeah, it was pandemonium, it was, but Walsall going to Wembley.
00:52Well, yeah, this guy's saying it as well, Walsall going to Wembley, I mean, it's absolutely unbelievable, and from where they were, and not winning for so long, they've now won three games in a row, which is quite insane, really.
01:02Yeah, I think that guy's nearly as strong as I was in Venice, but, yeah, I mean, you know, you look at the form in the second half of the season, and how much Walsall struggled, three wins in 21 games,
01:13and, yeah, it feels a distant memory now, I've stood here, you know, three wins in a row, and, you know, you look at, kind of, the clean sheet in that game, and how well Walsall defended,
01:21and, again, today, you know, I know they conceded that late goal, but, you know, a fantastic defensive performance, off the ball, Walsall looked back to themselves,
01:29and they showed the clinical edge in front of goal once again, and, yeah, they do look as close to the side that we saw earlier in the season as possible,
01:37and they really head into the final now with some momentum.
01:40Yeah, and look, that devastating blow with Bradford scoring that offside goal right at the end of the game,
01:44to pull themselves around from what Matt Sadler's done, and to get them to show this character, and this quality as well, in such a short space of time,
01:52it's commendable, it sets them up great for Wembley.
01:55Absolutely, and that was the fear, wasn't it, that how can these players, you know, respond to what was a huge cycle.
02:01I mean, you know, me and you were there that day, and it was awful to miss out in the fashion in which they did it was, it was heartbreaking.
02:10They picked themselves back up, they showed real grit, determination, strong mentality to get the job done, and, yeah, I mean, fantastic.
02:20And fans tonight, full house, absolutely insane.
02:22Yeah, the crowd was amazing, you know, over 9,500 packed into here tonight, and it was, it was, yeah, brilliant to see.
02:33Great occasion, great occasion for the club, you know, with his family, and it was lovely moments from him doing the post-match interview with Nathan Lowes in attendance, and, yeah.
02:46Well, I mean, if he was there a few games earlier, he wouldn't have been in this mess.
02:49That's very, very true, very, very true, but, yeah, yeah, absolutely brilliant mindset.
02:54Look, I mean, I've interviewed some of the fans outside and asked them who they'd prefer in the final, and the answer is that they don't really care.
03:00They're better than both of these sides, and they are better than both of these sides, and if they perform like they have done in these last three games, they should be in League One next season.
03:07Yeah, I would probably say Knott's County would be the one I would be looking for just purely because, you know, you look at the way Chesterfield play, and they like to keep possession.
03:14That's something that, you know, Knott's County, again, are renowned for.
03:18Two games over the course of those two games, Walsall won both, so they would probably be the team that I would be hoping to get in the final.
03:25But, yeah, Walsall, I could say, with the momentum that they've got from these last three games, we'll be heading into it with confidence.
03:32Walsall 2, Chesterfield 1, 4-1 in aggregate.
03:35The Super Saddlers are going to Wembley.
03:37We'll see you there.
