00:00Talking about taking it from there, a lot of this and a lot of what people are feeling about these next two games coming back to home and potentially splitting them, tied up one game apiece, split that, two games apiece, heading back to Minnesota is, hey, Steph Curry, one week he's going to be re-evaluated, we're going to see where his hamstring's at, can he potentially come back at all this series?
00:20Well, Steph was at shoot-around yesterday, and he talked about that timetable for return, let's take a listen.
00:26This is new, and from all that I'm learning about how quickly you can get back, there has to be a healing process, just the way the body works, you can't accelerate it more than what it's telling you, so it'll be one of those, after a week, really re-evaluating every day to kind of understand when it's safe, just to even think about playing, let alone how much can you push it.
00:52Just to even think about playing, is what I heard right there, just when he comes back next week, just to even think about coming back, that's not making me feel good if I'm a Warriors fan, by the way, four minutes, Valkyries, pair of tickets to give away, four minutes, be listening, you're going to hear Sounder, be the fifth caller, I'll give out the contest line then, four minutes, giving away a pair of Valkyrie tickets.
01:13Here's more from Stephen Curry at Shootaround yesterday on the temptation, potentially, to rush back.
01:43where they can fool you and think that it's healed, even if you don't feel anything, and so that gray area is a little confusing, will be confusing, I'm sure, but I'll do everything in my power to give back as soon as possible.
01:57You know, Jim Barnett joined us yesterday, Joe, Warriors legend, obviously former player, played with some of the greatest players in the history of the sport, and talk about that hamstring, it's a tricky one, because the moment you think you can come back, and the moment you think you're healthy,
02:09one more injury to there, and you're missing not just weeks, you're missing months, so that is a very tricky, and it's the first time he's had this injury, so he doesn't, he doesn't know, like, you know your body, but until you have a certain injury,
02:21that you haven't had before, you don't really know it, like, it's one thing if he hurt his ankle again, he's dealt with ankle injuries before, or a sprain, or a knee, right, the bilateral knee tendonitis he had this season, he's never had this injury, to that part of his body before, so it's tricky, it's tricky.
02:36Look, I'm gonna sound like I'm an insane person, I don't think he's coming back for the series, I still think they can win it, I still think they can win the series, will it take seven games? Of course, even with Steph, I was thinking, it'd be an uphill battle to win this series, but now that I've seen Minnesota through a couple of games, I just think I kind of overrated how good they were defensively, number one, and number two, I don't fear some of their players as much as I did heading into the series.
03:01Now, Julius Randle had a great game yesterday, and they've gotta figure out, like, what they're gonna do with Julius Randle, you can't let him hit threes, and get the ball into the paint deeply, and be able to shoot over people, and be a passer, you gotta cut one of those three things off, so they need to figure that out, I didn't like the way, Draymond kept sliding over and helping, over and over, opening up passing lanes, so I don't love that, they're gonna have to figure out what the adjustment is on him.
03:26I actually like the way that they're playing Anthony Edwards, and this is why you never, the series is over, whatever, when Anthony Edwards was laying on the floor, grabbing his ankle, we all were thinking the same thing, uh-oh, uh-oh, if you're just a fan of basketball, these series can flip like that.
03:45Well, as a fan of basketball, first and foremost, I was like, great, we're not gonna get Steph and Anthony Edwards in this series, well, that just, you know, that sucks, but, at the same point, if you're a Warriors fan, with those lenses on, it's like, okay, well, we lost Steph, they may have lost Anthony Edwards, this whole series has changed again, right?
04:02That's why you gotta, this is why I tell everyone, everyone relax, this is how a series goes, you get punched on the face, now you're gonna have to come back home, win one or two, you have to make adjustments.
04:12Starts with, to me, it's very simple, where am I gonna get more half-court offense from, right? How do I balance that floor? Who can hit shots? And I hate doing the, well, it comes down to, can you hit a couple threes?
04:23But on this team, it does, because it opens the floor up for others. And then the other one is, how are you gonna defend Julius Randle? You can't let him score at multiple levels and be a playmaking passer.
04:35One of those things has gotta give, and so I think it starts there, and then, you know, some of your ancillary guys have got to hit shots. Moody, between Moody, Buddy, Pods, and Draymond, one or two of those guys is gonna have to have a half.
04:498-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0. I think the biggest one for me was the fast break points yesterday, too. The transition offense, and just 18 points for the T-Wolves, 8-of-9 shooting.
04:59You cannot allow that team, with that many athletes on it, that size and athleticism, to get ahead of his team. You just can't. You can't happen.
05:08They had a lot of live ball turnovers. I mean, like, the shot clock violations turning into those.
05:12And that fuels an offense, and when you're on the road, it fueled the crowd yesterday.
05:17And so, look, the third quarter run, I'm not trying to say that was the end-all, be-all, because it was not.
05:24Believe me, every team goes on a run, and you go on those things.
05:27But that game was a lot closer at times than I wanted to admit, and it was also a lot worse than I wanted to admit.
05:34So it was a little bit of both, but I actually think there are some positives.
05:37TJD's a positive. I think Kaminga's a positive.
05:41That's a positive, too. That's a sounder, and the Golden State Valkyries inaugural season is here.
05:45And fans, you do not want to miss the first ever WNBA season in the Bay Area.
05:50Catch Tiffany Hayes, Kate Martin, Kayla Thornton, and the Valkyries all summer long at Chase Center.
05:54Tickets are available at Valkyries.com.
05:56And right now, call 415-523-4652.
06:02That's 415-523-4652.
06:06Now, and be caller number five, and you'll score a pair of tickets to the home opener on May 16th.
06:12If you don't want it this time, come back around at 840.
06:15We're doing it again. We're doing it all day right here on 95.7 The Game.
06:18Valkyries home opener next Friday, a week from today.
06:23We've got shameless shout-outs coming up in about three and a half minutes.
06:27In the meantime, let's go to Coach Dink in Fairfield.
06:30Before you go there.
06:30Before I go to that, what's up?
06:31Look, I know everyone's going to crush all the answers.
06:33But if Draymond plays like that, again, we have no shot in most games against this team.
06:39So, like, all the stuff we're talking about that needs to go well, like, Draymond needs to play better.
06:44My Hall of Famer, who's one of the most important players on the team and in franchise history,
06:48has got to play excellent basketball.
06:50They have no shot.
06:50It's the same.
06:51Like, it's...
06:52We can talk till we're blue in the face about booty hitting shots.
06:55Dre's got to play better.
06:57Coach Dink, Fairfield, wants to step right up.
07:00888-957-9570.
07:01Coach Dink, what you got on last night's loss?
07:06Oh, man.
07:06Got a lot of...
07:07Got a lot with a little time.
07:09So, let me just start by saying, I don't want Butler being our facilitator.
07:14I need him to get us 30.
07:16I don't want Kamiga sitting the bench no longer.
07:20If we're going to criticize, let's criticize Curry.
07:23I mean, Curry.
07:24Our coach's got to be held accountable first and foremost.
07:27Our best athlete on our team is sitting the bench.
07:31If y'all don't think Kamiga is not the best athlete on the Warriors, we have an issue.
07:38Houston, there's the problem.
07:40I take the call.
07:42Look, I think Sid Kerr was brilliant for multiple games.
07:45I don't think yesterday...
07:47I don't think yesterday he was on it on a variety of things.
07:51And, look, when you praise him, I understand criticizing him,
07:55but I'm not going to crush Steve Kerr for yesterday.
07:58Guys didn't play well.
07:59I mean, they did their job.
08:01They tied the series.
08:02It's 1-1.
08:03Okay.
08:04You got the game you needed.
08:05Had I switched the sequence, we would be feeling different.
08:08Right?
08:08Meaning, coming off of a win today.
08:10Correct.
08:10Now, that win would have come off with no Steph Curry.
08:13There'd be different feelings involved in that.
08:15But, again, we all agreed.
08:17Did we not yesterday?
08:18Yesterday, this was an experimental game to see what's going to go on without Steph and
08:22Curry, because we knew for at least three games, Steph is gone.
08:27We don't know who's going to shake out, who's going to step up.
08:30And yesterday was a feeling out game.
08:32Now, you don't want to hear that as a fan, because it's a playoff game, right, Joe?
08:35It's like, great.
08:36You missed me with that.
08:37I want to win the damn game.
08:38This is playoffs.
08:39There's no such thing as time for experimenting in the playoffs.
08:43But yesterday, they kind of needed to.
08:45I mean, Quinn Post has not played in a game where Steph didn't play in.
08:48You know what I mean?
08:49Like, of this magnitude, even close to it.
08:51And so, yeah, I mean, look, this is a, yeah, there is a feeling out.
08:54And I think that he was searching yesterday for combinations, lineups, scoring, defense.
08:58Like, he was looking at everything.
09:00Look, he faded Looney in this game, which I was surprised.
09:03Coming out of game one, if you thought they were going to fade Looney, like, that wouldn't
09:07have been on my bingo card.
09:08And it was probably the right move, because TJD brought a little something different.
09:12I was surprised by the TJD minutes, and then him getting that long.
09:16But then, as soon as you started playing, and like, it worked.
09:18He faded Guy Santos in this game.
09:20He gave him a look early.
09:21He played in the first quarter, and then went back to him a little later, and was like,
09:24no, this doesn't work.
09:25I'm not going to go back to it.
09:27Here's Steve Kerr after the game, talking about his game plan, and how the team executed
09:30it.
09:31Well, I think part of the game plan coming in was to play a lot of people.
09:35And we did.
09:36I think we played 13, 14 people in the first half.
09:39And part of the reasoning is, you know, obviously the fatigue of the run we've been on with
09:45all the travel and the games.
09:46But part of it also is we have to figure out what we're going to be able to do in this series
09:50without Steph.
09:51And so, we gave a lot of people a lot of chances.
09:54And then, you know, some guys really stepped up.
09:56Trace and JK were both really good in this game.
09:59You could see that their athleticism was important.
10:02I thought we made a really spirited run, you know, got it to seven.
10:07And then, we just kind of lost a little bit of composure.
10:11We turned it over right out of that timeout a couple of times and gave up a couple of threes
10:16where we lost connection defensively.
10:19But we learned a lot.
10:20And I think this game will help us figure out, you know, how to move forward.
10:24I thought that their timing on when to double was really bad yesterday.
10:28And they gave up a lot of good looks.
10:32A lot of good looks.
10:33Whereas, the game prior, I felt like they contested a lot better.
10:36They closed out better.
10:37In this one, Minnesota contested better and closed out better late in the shot clock than we did.
10:41And that was due to spacing.
10:43And obviously, the gravity of one Stephen Curry not being out there.
10:46They're going to be a lot more aggressive.
10:47They're going to take more chances because they can do that.
10:49It's hard to take chances when you know that Stephen Curry's on the opposing end
10:52and he can make you pay left and right, especially if they get an offensive rebound.
10:56Because more often than not, it feels like that's going to go in if you're Steph.
10:59If you're budding the offensive rebound category, actually, sneakily close, TJD had a couple of them.
11:06You had Brandon Pajemski, obviously, getting a couple of them.
11:08Jimmy Butler had a couple of offensive rebounds.
11:10So, that was tight.
11:11Kaminga got that missed.
11:12I think it was TJD missed free throw in the corner.
11:16And it was either Kaminga or maybe it was Knox.
11:18They were both going for it.
11:19He batted it to them and they got another second chance.
11:22That's why I think there are some encouraging things.
11:25I'm not here to play Capri Suns and Orange Slices, Joe.
11:28I know.
11:28This is the playoffs.
11:29This is legacies on the line, stakes on the line.
11:33You can't be out here experimenting in games.
11:35But I do feel like there is a feeling out process.
11:38You try something, it doesn't work.
11:39Let's try this, it doesn't work.
11:41You can't just roll out your normal stuff.
11:44You don't have your best player.
11:45Everything is designed around it.
11:47So, there is a level of tinkering that is kind of into this game.
11:52Your starters, your normal starters, because I'm not putting QP in here.
11:55The start was awful.
11:56You had eight turnovers.
11:57Joe, they had eight turnovers in your starting lineup.
11:59That can't happen.
12:00What was the score?
12:01Like eight to 25 or something to start the game?
12:03Yeah, it was ridiculous.
12:04It was bad.
12:04They couldn't score within like the first five minutes of the game.
12:07They couldn't do it.
12:08It was bad.
12:08You know what's not bad?
12:09Shameless shout outs.
12:10You know what's not bad?
