Farnham Town Council joined communities across the UK in commemorating 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe, with a day of remembrance and celebration on VE Day. In the evening, residents gathered at Gostrey Meadow from 8pm to 9.45pm for a special beacon lighting event. The programme featured live music from the Alder Valley Brass Band and a nostalgic performance of 1940s classics by Victoria Cluskey. Winston Churchill’s historic Victory broadcast was replayed, adding a poignant touch to the evening. Deputy Lieutenant Bill Biddell delivered a heartfelt VE Day Tribute before the beacon was ceremonially lit by the High Sheriff, Peter Cluff.
