00:00It's a big game, but of course with you, like it's a playoff game and it's the second round.
00:04It's not like I'm blowing it off, but...
00:07Chilling.
00:07Chilling.
00:08Chilling.
00:09Worst case scenario, outside of injury, they lose.
00:12Super excited, but chilling.
00:15You know what I mean?
00:16There's just not a lot of angst around this one.
00:19Maybe there is for you, I get it.
00:20But I think tonight, tonight's the best kind of night.
00:25Something great could happen and nothing awful can happen.
00:28Yeah.
00:29That's great.
00:30That's great.
00:31I mean, I don't want to say that out loud and sound like I'm jinxing it, right?
00:34I don't want another injury to happen.
00:36Of course.
00:37That would be awful.
00:38But here's what I mean by a gravy game and a gravy series, quite frankly.
00:44It does not mean that I'm just like, okay, Warriors lose.
00:50Oh, well, on to the summer.
00:53That's not my vibe.
00:54That's not how I'm doing this at all.
00:56There's still plenty of intensity about this.
00:58But it is managing these two words.
01:03Hope versus expectation.
01:06Now, maybe, and I know you've answered this a couple of times this week by saying this,
01:13maybe you weren't expecting the Warriors to win, even with Steph Curry.
01:17But I think majority of Warrior fans, after what this team has done over the last 12 years,
01:23majority of Warrior fans, they like to swagger into the room.
01:27Oh, I'd like to see you beat Steph Curry and Draymond Green in a series.
01:32They don't want to face us in the playoffs.
01:33Go ahead and show me, Thunder, Shea Gilgis, Alexander.
01:38Show me that you can actually do that.
01:41Because people don't usually do that.
01:43They usually don't do that.
01:45Well, now they don't have to.
01:47The Minnesota Timberwolves don't have to beat the Warriors with Steph Curry.
01:50They just need to beat the Warriors with Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler.
01:54And that's different.
01:56And so, for me, any expectation that you felt has left town.
02:02And you can be mad at that.
02:04That may not describe you.
02:06That's fine.
02:07But those are very, very different emotions.
02:10I hope the Warriors can win.
02:12I am cheering for the Warriors to win.
02:14And I am optimistic that they can still make noise here.
02:18But you know this about me.
02:20I hate the word expectation.
02:21It ruins stuff.
02:23It just does.
02:24When you go in with massive, lofty expectations and they're not met,
02:27you come out all upset.
02:29And that's sort of where I'm at.
02:31I've promised two things now in these playoffs.
02:35One, I will never get mad at Buddy Heald again.
02:38And two, I ain't going to be mad at him no matter what happens.
02:41I can't be frustrated or surprised or any of those things with a basketball team in the NBA playoffs
02:51that cannot or does not win when it's ultra, uber, super duper, international, iconic superstar
02:59isn't playing.
03:02He isn't playing.
03:04I saw expectation left town.
03:06It's gone.
03:06Yeah, for me, I still have expectation because you've got two other Hall of Famers
03:11and you've got a team against whom you're up one game to none.
03:15And so you've got home court.
03:17No matter what happens tonight, you've got the home court advantage.
03:19And I do look at your team and your calling card has been your defense.
03:24And Steve Kerr, every time he joins us, and he joined us yesterday and he comes on every week
03:28exclusively in this market on 95.7 The Game.
03:31He talks about how they're the number one defense since they got Jimmy Butler.
03:35And you lose Steph Curry.
03:36And I do believe that you still are a number one caliber defense in the association, even
03:42if you don't have Steph Curry.
03:44So you just have to go about winning these games in a different fashion.
03:47And I know you're an underdog and you were going into the series even before Steph got hurt.
03:52But you've got a one game lead and you have a way to go about and win a game or two games
03:59or maybe three without Steph.
04:01I don't know when he's coming back.
04:02If he's coming back, nobody knows that.
04:04But I look at what you have and you have enough to beat Minnesota.
04:08I firmly believe that.
04:09So I'm going to have expectations.
04:11And if they don't do it, it doesn't mean I'm going to be gutted or call for firings or rip people.
04:18I'm not going to change my expectations just because Steph Curry went out.
04:22That's fine.
04:23And so there's a little bit of a difference there with how we're looking at it.
04:27Again, and somebody just hit us on the Boxner and Gerson work injury attorney's text line
04:31and said, Willard, have some faith.
04:33Again, don't use the wrong word.
04:36I have plenty of faith.
04:37I have belief.
04:39I have hope.
04:40I have optimism.
04:42I have strength.
04:44All of these things that you use when you're rooting for your team.
04:49I do not have expectation.
04:52That's totally different.
04:54Expectation.
04:55Think about that word now.
04:57Like the expectation you have of people when they're around you, whether it's family members,
05:04whether it's those you work with.
05:05You know what I mean?
05:06Like you being here today, that's an expectation.
05:10I expect you to be here today.
05:14But, like, I'm not going to put that word on a lot of things.
05:21Especially, like, for instance, if, and I think last week, you did miss the show because
05:27Milo was sick, right?
05:28Oh, yeah.
05:28Okay.
05:29It's like expectation leaves town.
05:31Yep.
05:32You got something going on.
05:34Now, we're not expecting that anymore.
05:36We're going to hope.
05:37We're going to hope that Milo gets better.
05:39We're going to hope that Dibs gets back the next day.
05:40Oh, she's better.
05:41Great.
05:41And you only missed one show.
05:43Oh, that's great.
05:44It turns into hope rather than expectation.
05:47And that's all I'm saying about the Warriors.
05:50I still have hope, but I'm not going to expect anything.
05:53And quite frankly, those of you who are parading around with a flag on your car,
05:58I never wavered.
06:00Stop.
06:01If I had thrown this at you a week ago, you'd have cried just like Steph did.
06:06I shared a bunch of the tweets that people were sending me after the Game 6 loss.
06:10Because I sent out, hey, how are you feeling, Warriors, after that?
06:13And it's like, no chance.
06:14Zero.
06:15It's over.
06:15Giants.
06:16Summer.
06:17Cancun.
06:17Like, I got a whole litany of people who had given up.
06:20And then they win Game 7.
06:21And now our expectations are back.
06:23So I do believe that all of this is fleeting.
06:26And my expectations are not as high as they would have been if Steph was still here.
06:30But I'm not just going to say, well, I mean, it's over.
06:33They're going to lose in five.
06:34And I'm not saying that either.
06:35I know you're not.
06:36But I do believe that this becomes a big-time test for Draymond, Jimmy Butler,
06:42and Steve Kerr in particular.
06:44Figure out how you can get this group without Steph to get this done.
06:48Yeah.
06:49And actually, the sort of way that we normally fan, to me, it morphs a little bit into intrigue.
06:58Like, that's how I'm approaching tonight's game.
07:00I'm a little intrigued more than I am, like, excited, LFG, let's get some drinks and scream.
07:08I'm more like, huh, I wonder how they're going to approach this.
07:13Who is going to start?
07:14How are you going to attack the basket?
07:18All of those things.
07:19A little bit more, just take a step back.
07:21You know, pretend you're in a parachute and you're just looking down on the game.
07:25And I wonder, how are you going to approach it?
07:28And maybe they find some lightning in a bottle.
07:30Maybe Buddy goes for 30 again.
07:32I don't know.
07:33I don't know.
07:34But I sort of look at it that way because everything they are, the whole eye of the storm is gone.
07:41So you've got to rebuild your city.
07:44Totally.
07:44You have to rebuild the whole thing.
07:47Dub Nation, let's get engaged before we go to the calls, okay?
07:49We do it before every game.

08:10Here's the question today.
08:11With Steph Curry out and going to miss at least three games, and there's no guarantee he'll play again in this series at all.
08:19So if he misses the rest of the series or even most of it, easy question.
08:24Yes or no?
08:24Can the Warriors win the series?
08:27Can the Warriors win the series without Steph?
08:31Yes or no?
08:33Go vote in the poll on the 95.7 The Game Twitter page now, and we'll have the results.
08:39We'll check in on that a little bit later in the show.
08:43Let's go to the phones.
08:44Jonathan is in Mariners Point.
08:46I used to play a lot of nine holes there once upon a time.
08:49Hi, Jonathan.
08:49What's going on?
08:50Hey, guys.
08:53How's it going?
08:53That last little back and forth is exactly why I have Willard in the 95.7 power rankings and where I have dibs where he is.
09:02So thank you for that.
09:05I don't know if you can say that without telling us what your power rankings are, Jonathan.
09:09I have a feeling that I'm pretty low on the rankings, Jonathan.
09:12Go ahead.
09:14Dillard, what I love about you is you have the attitude of a six-year-old with a toddler, and I appreciate it.
09:21So my rankings would go Shafky, Willard, Steine, Goo, Dibs, and then it's still out on Spadoni.
09:28I just miss Ponte so much.
09:30That's fair.
09:31That's fair.
09:32Wow.
09:32What the hell do you love so much about Shafky?
09:35I'm kidding, Jonathan.
09:37Go ahead.
09:37Go ahead.
09:43And then it got loud.
09:45You still there?
09:45Yeah.
09:46Now we got you again, Jonathan.
09:47You turned into the ocean for a minute.
09:49Go ahead.
09:51Oh, well, that's where my last ball went.
09:54Did you get my power rankings?
09:55Yeah, we got them.
09:56We got them.
09:57All right.
09:58All right.
09:59So here's my question.
10:00This is why I love sports.
10:02This is going to be who steps up.
10:04You don't know who, just like we didn't think Buddy would.
10:06My question, though, is if they can only win one of the next three, which is the most important?
10:11Is it going home and up 2-0?
10:14But that means you're down 2-2 after our home games.
10:18You take game three, which means you split at home.
10:21A lot of pressure on game five on the road.
10:24In the same scenario, you need to win that game four to go back split to Minnesota.
10:30So of the three, which is the most important, that they win.
10:34Okay.
10:34It's game four.
10:35Thanks, Jonathan.
10:35Thank you, Jonathan.
10:36Why is it game four?
10:37Because then you'd at least have momentum, quote unquote, heading to Minnesota for game five.
10:42I think that if you win tonight, and I'm just making light of momentum, but you win tonight, and then you go home and you lose two in a row, the feeling among the fan base, anyway, the players don't care about these feelings, but the fans would be like, oh, boy, you stole a couple in Minnesota and you can't win at home.
10:59Oh, geez.
11:00Woe is us.
11:01But if you lose tonight, I think it's kind of a telegraphed loss.
11:05Game three, oh, boy, you didn't quite get it done.
11:08And then game four, you right the ship.
11:10For me as a fan, I would feel the best about a 2-2 split with a game four win.
11:15I'll agree that the answer is definitely not tonight, because if you go up 2-0 on the road, and then you go home for two games and gaff that opportunity away, that would suck.
11:27That would be a gut punch.
11:28So I don't think it's that.
11:30I guess my answer beyond that, though, is I don't care.
11:33I don't care if it's game three or four.
11:35If you come home and split the games at home, it doesn't really matter to me which one.
11:38You made momentum.
11:40I know you said you're making light of momentum.
11:42There is no momentum.
11:43There is no momentum.
11:44Like, one game does not affect the next.
11:46So, I don't know.
11:47I guess I'll go with you for this reason.
11:50If you lose tonight and then you were to win game three, you're, again, you know my rule.
11:57The pivotal games are the even-numbered games.
11:59Right.
11:59That means each time that you had an opportunity to really take control of the series, you didn't do it.
12:05You didn't do it tonight, and then you didn't do it in game four.
12:08And so, I don't know that that would feel great.
12:10Yeah, I guess you would feel best if the answer was game four.
12:16But largely, my answer is, doesn't matter.
12:19It's either three or four, but it's got to be one of those, not tonight.
12:22I'd find, like, even in this situation, if you go up 2-0 and then come home and hand it right back to him, that would suck.
12:30No matter who's in the lineup.
12:31Yeah, no doubt.
12:32I think you're right about that, about the lineup and, you know, what that would feel like.
12:35Again, 2-2 is 2-2.
12:37And if you are in a series where it is 2-2, well, now you've given back home court,
12:42and you've got to win two of the last three, including one in Minnesota for sure.
12:47So, that becomes more difficult, especially if you don't have Steph Curry.
12:50And I don't know, nobody really knows when Steph could potentially be back.
12:55The thought is, he'll be re-evaluated after next Wednesday or for next Wednesday,
13:00which would be ahead of game five.
13:02I don't know if he'd be ready to play in that game.
13:05Maybe he can go Sunday in game six.
13:07Something I heard, and I wasn't sure if you heard it or, Grandy, if you know the exact answer to this,
13:13but is Steph Curry going to stay in Minnesota?
13:16And I know that they're leaving tonight as a team.
13:20Is he just going to stay?
13:21No, he was just staying with the team through game two.
13:24And he'll fly back with the team.
13:25Okay, thank you.
13:26I heard that Joe's talking about this this morning, about whether or not he's going to be on the bench.
13:31And I'm sure he's still with the team.
13:32I think what's significant for fans is whether or not he's actually going to be on the bench,
13:37either sharing his thoughts to the players as they go out there,
13:40or also, of course, like it just makes fans feel good.
13:44They want to see Steph Curry.
13:45You want to see him out there with them.
13:46I don't know for sure, but I think he will be.
13:48He was out there at shoot around and rebounding for Draymond and others.
13:51Right.
13:52Or passing to them.
13:53Great.
13:54Yeah.
13:54Just what I heard today about somebody mentioning that he was going to stay in Minnesota.
13:58I wasn't sure if that meant that he was going to stay there through games three and four.
14:02That way he didn't have to fly and, you know, have his hamstring be on a plane.
14:06I guess I haven't heard for sure that he's flying back, but I haven't heard otherwise.
14:09So I assume he's going to fly back with the team.
14:12Boxer and Gerson work injury attorney's text line, 925.
14:15This is absolutely ridiculous.
14:19Dibbs has been absolutely crushing since the Rise Guys days.
14:25Dibbers is number one.
14:27Yeah.
14:28Go ahead and lock that up.
14:29I mean, put that on the board.
14:30I just want to make you – I just want to – I want to help you rebound.
14:33I don't need to rebound.
14:34I know you don't need it.
14:35Number one.
14:35Jonathan from Merrill's Point.
14:37Let's just see how this went.
14:38San Francisco, San Mateo, and Stiney.
14:45Like, that's his top three?
14:46I would defy you to find another human being who has that as his top three power rankings on the station.
14:51That's all.
14:52San Francisco?
14:53You lost him.
14:53Shaski.
14:54Oh, oh, oh.
14:55Got it.
14:56So a Peninsula guy favored a city guy and a fellow Peninsula guy and then the ultimate curmudgeon?
15:03Okay, Jonathan.
15:04Your power rankings can be your own.
15:06I don't share those as my top three.
15:08Don't tell me you didn't need a pick-me-up.
15:11I know you didn't need a pick-me-up.
15:13Like Mother's Day is this weekend.
15:15They don't need a gift.
15:17But you get them one.
15:18I mean –
15:18You get them one because it makes them feel good.
15:20You get them and you show some respect to your mom.
15:23Well, I had one.
15:25Well, thanks.
15:27Thanks for taking it in that direction.
15:29I mean –
15:30How about your wife, Dibs?
15:32Good Lord, yeah, exactly.
15:33Slap some flowers on your urn, Mom.
15:34There you go.
15:36Happy Mother's Day.
15:37I've told you this story before.
15:39I'm going to leave the name of the former 49er out of the conversation.
15:45But you know how we like to do the big finish.
15:47Oh, yeah.
15:48On interviews, and I did this one time where –
15:52And I think the category was fun with food,
15:55which was one of my staple categories when I used to do this all the time.
15:59And so we're doing fun with food.
16:01And one of the questions I threw at him was,
16:03What is your favorite meal that mom used to make?
16:07And this guy pauses and goes,
16:10See, now you didn't do enough research for this interview
16:14because my mom died when I was a little kid.
16:18Oh, boy.
16:19Yeah.
16:20I'm like –
16:22Okay, brother man, first of all –
16:24You better be careful.
16:26We don't –
16:26We don't research like that.
16:29I'm not going to go into your entire family tree
16:32and read your entire world history –
16:35Don't be disrespectful.
16:37So that we can have a conversation about the 49ers.
16:40You could have taken that anywhere.
16:42He's like, I was raised by my grandma.
16:45Great.
16:46Then what did she make?
16:47Like, come on, man.
16:48You didn't need to drive the whole thing off of the cliff
16:51and make me look like the biggest jerk in the history of mankind.
16:54This reminds me of Jolo and Dibbs.
16:58We had Mary Babers Green on a weekly.
17:01Draymond's mom.
17:02Draymond's mom.
17:02So Loneal's doing this whole Thanksgiving setup,
17:05and he's like,
17:05You know,
17:06Mary, what do you like to make?
17:08Something special?
17:09Maybe it's the collard greens.
17:10Maybe it's the turkey.
17:11Maybe what's your one signature ditch for Thanksgiving
17:14that you like to make?
17:15And she's like,
17:16Baby, I don't cook.
17:19Loneal rips the headphones off his head,
17:21and he goes like this to Joe.
17:23I'm done.
17:23I'm done.
17:24I'm done.
17:24I'm out.
17:25No, no, no, no.
17:26You don't get to be done
17:27just because you tried to ask a Thanksgiving question,
17:29and Mary Babers Green said,
17:31Oh, no, I don't cook.
17:32Yeah.
17:33Same thing, though.
17:34You don't need to take it there.
17:37I mean, yeah.
17:38Mother's Day is still Sunday,
17:39even though your mom has passed away.
17:41May she rest in peace.
17:42Yeah.
17:43She rests in pieces on my sister's mantle.
17:46I cry out loud.
17:48What?
17:48It's my mom.
17:49I can do it.
17:50Okay?
17:51I can do it.
17:52I can riff on my mom.
17:54She's been gone for 10 years.
17:56Oh, my God.
17:57Yes, she rests in pieces.
17:59Literally pieces.
18:01Millions of them on Gail's mantle.
18:03There's only one person I love more than Deep Dive Dibs,
18:06and it's Dark Dark Dibs.
18:08Dark Dark Dibs, yes.
18:08Dark Dark Dibs.
18:09You asked me about my dad next.
18:11Oh, Jonathan in Mariner's Point just texted in,
18:14and the Boxker and Gerson work injury attorney's text line.
18:16I'm now number seven?
18:17No, he said,
18:18Hey, good news, Dibs, you're still in my top five.
18:21Woo-hoo!
18:22Okay?
18:23Means a lot to me.
18:24All right.
18:24Mariner's Point.
18:25Mariner's Point's not even a place.
18:27It is a place.
18:28It's a golf course.
18:29Yeah, it's not a city.
18:30It's not a good golf course either.
18:32Wow.
18:33It's a dark track with duck crap everywhere.
18:36I played it.
18:37It's a little nine-holer.
18:38It's not there for good golf and collared shirts.
18:42It's there to go out there and whack it around a little bit with your friends.
18:45It's all fine.
18:46Fighting geese?
18:47Yeah.
18:48What's wrong with fighting geese?
18:50Yeah, just Mariner's Point.
18:53Mariner's Point.
18:54Get out of here.
18:55It's windy out there, brother.
18:56Shoot.
18:58Seriously.
18:59It's windy.
19:00Constantly.
19:00Windy city, Chicago.
19:02Screw you.
19:03You've never been to Mariner's Point.
19:04Does Mariner's Point have a pope?
19:06I didn't think so.
19:07Shout out to Leo.
19:08They might today.
19:09I haven't been there to see if there's any smoke.
19:1333 to 1, by the way, if you were in the betting markets.
19:16Was it really?
19:1733 to 1 on the American pope.
19:20Yeah.
19:20I don't even know.
19:22I mean.
19:22What?
19:24I mean, that's a win.
19:25If you thought that there was going to be an American pope and you wanted to bet it,
19:2933 to 1 is a nice price.
19:30The same thing happens when you talk pope as when you talk horse racing.
19:34I'm like, I don't.
19:36I don't even know what you're talking about.
19:37You know that there was a betting market on who the next pope would be.
19:40There's a betting market on everything.
19:42Well.
19:43There is a betting market on everything.
19:46And I'm telling you that the market for the pope, the American pope, was 33 to 1.
19:51Okay.
19:51So if you believe in America.
19:52I believe you.
19:53I just don't.
19:54I don't even know who the hell got announced as the pope.
19:57This Chicagoan who speaks multiple languages.
20:01Good for him.
20:01First ever American pope.
20:02Yeah.
20:03And I found out about it watching Pat McAfee.
20:06That's where we are now as an American society.
20:08Breaking news here on the roast.
20:10Awesome.
20:11I was just.
20:12I just dropped June at school.
20:14And then.
20:16Breaking news.
20:17And I'm like, oh, God.
20:19Who's got the.
20:20Who's got the hiv now?
20:21Right.
20:21Who's sick for the warriors today?
20:24And Spadoni's like, no, we got a pope.
20:26Oh, my God.
20:27Back to music.
20:30I'm trying to listen to this.
20:32Shout out, Leo.
20:33Anyway.
20:34Do we have time?
20:35Yep.
20:35Oh, we do.
20:36Okay, good.
20:36Let's go to Mike in Alamo.
20:38Hi, Mike.
20:38What's up?
20:38Thanks for calling.
20:42Mike?
20:44All right.
20:45Mike choked on the open net.
20:46Let's go to Wes in Castro Valley.
20:48Hi, Wes.
20:49What's up?
20:51Hey, guys.
20:51Can you hear me?
20:53Yeah, Wes.
20:53Yes, we can.
20:55All right, guys.
20:57Why do I have that feeling?
20:58First of all, I love your show.
21:00I listen to it every day.
21:02Where do you write dibs?
21:04Never mind.
21:05Go ahead, Wes.
21:09Why do I have that feeling that they're going to try to face guard?
21:15What's his name?
21:17Butler.
21:19It's your name.
21:19And how will he react to that?
21:22Second, what do you think about how the ref is going to call when Anthony Edwards attack the rim?
21:34Because I feel like he's going to do that all night.
21:39How do you guys feel about that?
21:41Thank you for taking my call, guys.
21:43Okay, Wes.
21:44Thank you very much.
21:45So I think if I got the questions straight, A, how will Jimmy Butler handle, basically, when he says face guarded, I think he means like if they're fronting him down low.
21:56And then how will the referees handle Anthony Edwards, who is going to attack the basket with reckless abandon?
22:03Like, do you have some ref-o-lytics for tonight?
22:06Yeah, we're starting to do the deep dive on it.
22:08You do have Tony Brothers, who is the crew chief, and he's the guy who's been doing it for...
22:13He's good.
22:14Yeah, very good.
22:15Yeah.
22:15And even though the ref-o-lytics in game one indicated a home-heavy whistle, it didn't matter because Minnesota couldn't make a basket.
22:23Right.
22:23So we can do ref-o-lytics all we want, and it only matters, I think, if the game is close or if the game gets officiated a certain way.
22:31But when you get to this level, the playoffs, you know that every single ref on every crew is a former crew chief or a current crew chief.
22:39So you don't get any of these weak sticks who are refereeing.
22:42Also, as far as Jimmy Butler being fronted, they do that a lot.
22:46They've been doing that a lot in both of these series, and I know that is a difficult entry pass, but that's going to be key.
22:54The Warriors have got to take care of the basketball, and so some people who don't normally handle the ball are going to have to handle the ball a little bit more.
23:03Brandon Pajemski, Buddy Heald, like they're going to have to do some things down there.
23:07But the other side to it is, look, I'm sure the Warriors are going to have an approach to this.
23:11And Jimmy Butler ranks right up there with the smartest players in the game with the ball in his hand.
23:17I don't know if it will work.
23:18I do know that they will have a plan.
23:21They will have a plan, and if they can keep this thing under 12 turnovers, I think they'll have a chance to win the basketball game.
