00:00Further devastation has come to Toowoomba after the deaths of a four and seven-year-old
00:06girl overnight, succumbing to injuries they suffered in a house fire here on Merritt Street.
00:12Early yesterday morning, emergency crews were called to the scene and after extinguishing
00:16the blaze, also located what is believed to be the body of a nine-year-old boy.
00:21A 36-year-old woman currently remains in the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital in a critical
00:26condition and is also under police guard.
00:28Police say that investigations are continuing to the fire, which they are treating as suspicious
00:34and are looking for anyone with any information to come forward.
00:38However, they are not looking for anyone else to be connected to the incident at this time.
00:43Police have earlier today confirmed that the woman is the mother of all five children involved
00:49in this incident, while the 34-year-old man is the father of some.
00:53And here is what police had to say earlier today.
00:54With these sorts of situations, we'll always treat matters as suspicious until proven otherwise.
01:01So obviously, when we've got people that we can't talk to, we've got people that have
01:05exited the house, there was some information that was provided to police and as I've said
01:09at this stage, it's too early to be able to comment further until we've spoken to all
01:13parties involved.
01:14Throughout the morning, locals have also been paying tribute to the three children who have
01:18now lost their lives, laying flowers and bears, making comment about the great sadness that has
01:24been felt throughout this region.
01:26Premier David Crisofulli said earlier today that Toowoomba is a really tight-knit community
01:30and will be devastated by this.
01:33Meanwhile, Education Minister John Paul Langbrook said that this is something that no one could
01:37ever imagine going through and that they will be delivering a suite of resources through
01:42the schooling system and particularly the school of the children that have been involved.
01:45It also supports staff, other students and the wider community that have been affected
01:50by this devastating disaster.
