00:01Hey Vogue, I'm Dua Lipa and we're getting ready for the Met today. Come on in.
00:09I love being back in New York.
00:11Every time I just feel like the city's energy is so raw and feral and infectious and fun.
00:21This is Katie Jane Hughes, my makeup artist.
00:24Hi Vogue.
00:25Skincare for me is really important, especially because I travel so much and I'm always on the go.
00:33And especially when touring and performing, I feel like taking care of my skin is kind of crucial to my everyday.
00:43But these are some things that I just can't live without.
00:47Eye cream, because you never always get as many hours of sleep as you'd like.
00:51So this makes me look alive, no?
00:54It makes you look fresh, it's perfect for stage, perfect for just a day in the city.
00:59I think the importance of skin prep before makeup, it's important to have the right ratio and the right amount.
01:04Like on stage, I'm quite stingy with your skincare.
01:06I like to just do a little bit, because I don't want to have to keep powering you in between quick change.
01:10Because I get really sweaty.
01:11Right.
01:13Dua's got the most perfect skin of any client that I might have ever done makeup for.
01:17It's a joy.
01:18Katie's being very nice.
01:19It takes a small army to get me ready for something like the Met Gala.
01:23The glow is real.
01:27This is similar to an eye that we do for radical optimism actually, but this is just a little bit more of a red carpet version as opposed to like a party stage version.
01:36Stage look, yeah.
01:37Perfect.
01:43With Chanel, which is an amazing brand to work with, there was like a picture that we really, really love.
01:48Portrait of Josephine.
01:50We really found like the perfect match for what was our idea.
01:54Josephine was an amazing performance.
01:56She was like standing for rights.
01:58We felt very close to what she did.
02:00She was mixing like extreme feminine elements with masculinity as well.
02:04I mean, so we decided to put like the tailor elements just like with a jacket.
02:09And of course, Chanel tailor jacket is the best way we can ask, you know, just like so.
02:14This is about silhouette.
02:15This is about extreme silhouette.
02:17It's like a performance happening on a carpet, you know.
02:19So just like that's why we decided to have like this beautiful veil that in some way just like it looks like a short dress, but it's not.
02:28And the cape gives the drama.
02:30And this is the last touch.
02:32So we decided to pair the dress with these beautiful crystal gloves.
02:38It's a very, very long process.
02:40The Chanel team has been working on this for 2,000 hours.
02:46Now we're just kind of doing the finishing touches to the look.
02:49This is Peter Lux.
02:50Hello.
02:51My hairstylist.
02:52And we've gone for like a modern take on the 1920s.
02:58Yeah, I love this.
02:59It's fun.
03:00I think that's something that the Met Gala really pushes people to do is experiment.
03:06This is something that we do for radical optimism for the shows.
03:10A really gorgeous gleamy eye and a lot of shine on the skin, but like very flushy and gorgeous at the same time.
03:16We really just want it to look like Dua, but glamour.
03:20Yeah, more exaggerated.
03:21Yeah.
03:22I'm looking forward to the party, to kind of seeing everyone, to seeing how everyone's interpreted the theme or not.
03:29I think it's going to be a blast.
03:30You never really know what's going to happen, so.
03:32Over the years, my style has just gotten a bit more, I'd like to think, a bit more refined.
03:39The outfit kind of has two sides to it, both of which were inspired and celebrate Josephine Baker's style,
03:46kind of off-duty and as a performer.
03:50And there's this wonderful quote by Josephine Baker where she says,
03:54I love performing and I shall perform until the day I die.
03:59And I feel very connected to that quote of hers.
04:04This is Chanel high jewellery, which I'm going to be wearing tonight.
04:10I think jewellery can just be very glamorous, but at the same time really audacious and powerful and feminine.
04:17And this particular piece has a very chic little fact about it,
04:22is actually the diamond in the middle, is the shape of the Place Vendôme.
04:25So, I'm very excited to wear this very, very special piece.
04:28But one last thing, I've got to spray some perfume on.
04:33Alright, I've got to go.
04:36Okay, so this is my almost final look.
04:39There's a cape that goes with it, but I just love this little bow detail.
04:43Underneath is the more of the performance look.
04:55I love this dress so much.
04:57It's been so much fun creating this look with the Chanel team.
05:00And I've loved every moment.
05:02I can't wait to just enjoy it now.
05:08Alright, Vogue.
05:09Thanks for getting ready with me.
05:10I've got to get on that carpet.
05:12Bye.
05:13Bye.
