00:00It was Pauline Ferrand Prevost and Imogen Wolff still with me.
00:08It was amazing just to follow their wheels and to be able to get through the last corner in front.
00:15It was slippery but being in the front is then the best position.
00:24Welcome to stage 3 of La Vuelta Femenina.
00:27Mariana Vos was in a league of her own in yesterday's sprint powering her way into the green jersey.
00:33But she wasn't the only one celebrating as second placed Letizia Paternoster took the red jersey.
00:40Well those two are likely to be the central protagonists once again today as we gear up for another sprint.
00:46And if yesterday was anything to go by Vos will certainly take some beating.
00:50As for Paternoster and her teammates it's also about defending red.
00:55We hope today's stage won't be too hectic. We're ready for anything.
01:01We have a strong team, we can protect each other, so hopefully nothing bad happens.
01:07Well this is the second longest stage of the week, 132.4km from Barbastro to Huesca.
01:14There are no climbs to speak of but there is some rain and wind forecast and that could potentially split the race if it's strong enough.
01:21Otherwise the sprinters are likely to battle it out on the line.
01:24Hello and you're very welcome. It's day three in the Vuelta Femenina 2025 and we're heading west across the very top of Spain.
01:33There were five ladies in the day's breakaway.
01:36Micah Collier of Arkea B&B Hotels.
01:39Marian Boras of Kofidis.
01:41Magdalena Lindt of Kop Repsol.
01:43Marina Garrao of B-Pink Imatra Bonjuani.
01:47And Ariana Gilabert of the NA Cat CM team.
01:50Their maximum gap today was around three minutes but they led by just over one minute with 60km still to go.
01:57Meanwhile there were three non-starters this morning.
02:00Kop Repsol's Laura Lizette Sander.
02:02Niva Lula Jayco's Georgia Baker, a teammate of our new race leader Paternoster.
02:07And Canyon Schram's Chloe Digert, the former Time Trial World Champion.
02:12That was another blow for Canyon Schram after their leader Niamh Bradbury crashed yesterday and lost over two minutes.
02:18It'll be interesting to see how that impacts their approach to GC.
02:22What a day meanwhile for Paternoster.
02:24Her first outing in the leader's jersey at a Grand Tour.
02:27But with more bonus seconds available today and plenty of riders within just a few seconds.
02:32She knew she would have a job keeping hold of it.
02:34Here in Caridad, we have several riders in one car with several riders.
02:41The Arkea B&B Hotels riders clearly failed that one.
02:46A nasty one that for Emilia Farlin but she was able to keep going.
02:50Slowly but surely, the bunch began to close the gap on the breakaway with the weather improving and the sun back out here in northern Spain.
02:59With just over 35 kilometres to go on a small rise, five went down to three at the front.
03:04Baras and Gillesbert were dropped as Collier, Lint and Grau forged on.
03:09But that remaining trio was swept up by the bunch before the intermediate sprint.
03:13Wisma Lisebach really upping the tempo.
03:16Vos was going for the maximum bonuses once again but she was pipped to the line by Femke Gerritzer of SD Works.
03:22The Dutch woman becoming the virtual race leader, two seconds ahead of Paternoster.
03:27But the action was only just starting and as the wind began to pick up, the pelotons shattered into several groups.
03:34And several big names were caught out including three from Lidl Trek, Rihanna Marcus, Anna Henderson and Shirin van Anrooy.
03:41The UAE leader Erika Magnaldi was also in this chase group with the Canyon tram leader Neve Bradbury in trouble for the second day running.
03:49Ashley Molman-Passio from AG Insurance Sudan was also in there.
03:53So a furious chase for this small group but they managed to catch up again with 15k to go.
03:59Kilometer 118 all the race, the bunch is riding all together.
04:03The riders hurtling their way into Huesca and starting to get themselves set for the sprint.
04:09With Vos looking relaxed as she slowly worked her way up to the front.
04:13EF Education only taking it up with just a few kilometers to go, Kristen Faulkner on the front.
04:18But there was set to be more late drama.
04:24Riders down at the back of the group and the considerable confusion and that's inside three to go.
04:30The sprint favorites all managed to squeeze through.
04:33Esti Works now hitting the front with Anna van der Brechen and Misha Bredewald leading out for Gerica.
04:38But she had Mariana Vos right on the wheel.
04:43Who's going to own it? It's Esti Works that have command at the front.
04:46Gerica is in absolutely perfect position but she's got the greatest of all time on her wheel into the final 300 meters.
04:53Ostalazza has got herself in great position as well and a sensational opportunity for her pattern.
04:58Ostalazza is sitting in about sixth position at the moment.
05:00Gerica launches inside the final 200 meters.
05:02And Mariana Vos, has she got the legs to get up and over?
05:05Mariana Vos trying to get up and around.
05:07Gerica to get to the line.
05:08Who's going to get the victory?
05:09It's Gerica, would you believe it?
05:10She's held off Vos to get the glory on stage three.
05:14What a way for Femke Gerica to claim her first World Tour victory.
05:19Beating Mariana Vos to become the overall leader of La Vuelta Femenina.
05:24The 23 year old showing that she has what it takes to be a top sprinter.
05:28This is her second win of 2025 after the Omloop van het Haageland and just the third of her career.
05:35It's crazy.
05:37Yeah, I really didn't expect this today.
05:42I took the boni sprint and then I thought, okay, my sprint is good.
05:47But this final was so chaotic so I just stayed calm and I felt Mariana, I think, I don't know,
05:53it was Mariana but I felt someone coming but I could keep first place so yeah, it's really crazy.
06:01Gerica winning ahead of Vos with Linda Zanetti in third for UNOX Mobility, followed by Bredewald,
06:07Megan Jastrab and Vittoria Guazzini.
06:10Paternoster could only manage seventh while Casio Nuevi Adoma was eighth for the second day running.
06:16Gerica goes top of the pile overall, leading her compatriot Vos by 12 seconds now,
06:21while Paternoster slips the third.
06:23GC contenders Marcus, Van de Brechen, Garcia and Follering are all inside the top ten.
06:29Vos still has a healthy lead in the points classification.
06:34She is 30 clear of Gerica who had a maximum haul of 75 today.
06:38Paternoster is third on 57.
06:41There were no climbs today so Ana Sant Esteban is still our queen of the mountains,
06:46although she was involved in a crash just as the echelons were forming.
06:49Hopefully no major damage done.
06:52Tomorrow is one for the punchier riders and perhaps even the GC favourites
06:56with a five kilometre climb in the final.
06:58Do join us for that on Wednesday and thanks for watching.
