00:00Welcome to La Vuelta Femenina, into its third edition as a fully-fledged week-long stage race.
00:08And for the third year of running, we kick off with the team time trial, so the GC favourites will have to be switched on from the word go.
00:15The woman to beat is no doubt the defending champion at Demi Follering.
00:19The Dutch woman lines up for her new team, FDJ Suez, alongside Juliette Labusse and Evita Music, both in the top five last year.
00:27Last year's runner-up, Rihanna Marcus, has switched to Lidl Trek, along with Neve Fischer-Black,
00:32and the American squad are out to win the TTT for the second time in a row.
00:37Reigning Tour de France champion, Casio Nuevi-Odoma, is also here, but she will be in a support role for Neve Bradbury over at Canyon Tram.
00:45SD Works are headed by the returning Anna von der Brecken, whose Ardennes Classic season was blighted by illness.
00:52And there's another big comeback for Pauline Ferron-Prevo, who's riding her first Grand Tour in a decade for Visma Lisa Bike, alongside Mariana Vos.
01:01Well, this opening team time trial around Barcelona is just 8.1km long, and it's going to be fast and furious.
01:08This one is all about raw power. It's a nice flat course with plenty of long straights, and the times will be taken when the fourth rider of each team crosses the line.
01:19So, time to get the party started in Barcelona.
01:31Well, lotto ladies kicking off this Vuelta Femenina and setting the first time to beat, 10 minutes and 7 seconds.
01:38But they didn't spend long in the hot seat. Their mark was bettered by Cofidis, and then blown out of the water by Picnic Postenel, the Dutch squad roaring round in an average of more than 50km an hour.
01:50And they obliterate it. Go to the top of the timesheets. The first squad to break 50km per hour. Vinka Vinka leading their line to the line.
02:00So, 9 minutes 39, now the time to beat, and that was just beyond the home favourites, Movistar.
02:07The Spanish team with their new Swiss powerhouse, Marlon Reusser, coming in at just 7 seconds down.
02:13Well, meanwhile, there was a bit of a chaotic start for Visma Lisa Bike.
02:18One of their riders just late to the party, and will she get on? I mean, that's absolutely disastrous for a team of that calibre.
02:25They need for two teams, so I wonder if there are just some communications issues among the teams.
02:29The ladies in yellow setting off without Imogen Wolf, who would never catch up again.
02:34And that no doubt cost them in their bid to win the TTT for the second time in three years after 2023. Visma Lisa Bike finishing 12 seconds down.
02:43Picnic Postonel were eventually knocked off their perch though.
02:48Mavi Garcia's Liv Alulajaco team powering their way to the line in Barcelona.
02:54It's going to be the top spot for now for the Liv Alulajaco squad.
02:5950.8km an hour, and that is the fastest time so far.
03:04A brilliance effort from the Australian outfit, and it was beyond the reach of Canyon Srams Zonda Crypto, who came in just five seconds down.
03:12Little Trek looked in the mood though, with their incredibly strong line-up, including Emma Norsgaard, the Danish Time Trial Champion.
03:19Anna Henderson, the British Time Trial Champion.
03:22Rihanna Marcus, the Dutch Time Trial Champion.
03:25And Ellen van Dijk, the three-time World Time Trial Champion.
03:28Even with all of that firepower, it was going to be mighty close.
03:32Through to the line, and that's good enough by three seconds, just about get there.
03:36And it's Little Trek have taken over as the fastest team on stage one of Vuelta Femenina.
03:42SD Works Pro Time also enjoying a solid day at the office.
03:47Van der Brechen and co. only dropped three seconds on Little Trek.
03:50But there was then a scary moment for the last team out on course, FDJ Suez.
03:57Oh, rider down. Oh, and that's very, very painful.
04:00Well, Vittoria Guazzini going to ground hard. We hope she's okay.
04:04The rest of her teammates recovering though, and limiting the damage to just six seconds.
04:11Victory for the second year running, going to Little Trek.
04:16Well, in 2024, Little Trek won the team time trial here, despite a crash in the final kilometer.
04:22And it's one of the women who went down that day, Ellen van Dijk,
04:26who becomes the first leader of the 2025 edition.
04:29The American squad laying down an early marker.
04:32We are super happy. We really wanted this win.
04:35We trained really well for it.
04:38We had the whole team, like, really going for this.
04:41Not just the riders, but all the staff. We were here with a lot of staff.
04:44So, yeah, we really, really wanted this win.
04:47So to, yeah, to do it in the end is super nice.
04:52Well, the gaps were super tight today with just nine seconds separating the top six teams.
04:57Among the GC outfits, Visma Lisa Bike lost 21 seconds after their mix-up at the starts.
05:03Little Trek had the top five riders overall,
05:06with Van Dijk saying she was honoured to wear red on behalf of the team.
05:10Misha Bredewold is the best of the rest for SD Works.
05:15Monday's second stage should give the sprinters a first chance to stretch their legs
05:19as we head from Molins de Rey to Sandboj de Jobregat.
05:22Do join us then, and thanks for watching.
