00:00Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Arakji visited Islamabad to hold talks with senior Pakistani
00:07officials in an effort to mediate tensions with neighboring India. Tensions have spiked in recent
00:13weeks after an attack in Pahagam claimed the lives of 26 people. The visit is the first by
00:19a foreign dignitary in the wake of the deadly attack in the Indian disputed region of Kashmir.
00:24Islamabad reaffirmed its commitment to peace but warned that it will resolutely respond to
00:29any violation of its territory or sovereignty.
00:32In case of any act of aggression by India, there should be no doubt in anyone's mind that
00:41Pakistan will do nothing. Pakistan, let me tell you, Pakistan will resolutely defend its sovereignty
00:47and territorial integrity in exercise of the inherent right of self-defense as enshrined
00:56in the Article 51 of the UN Charter.
00:59The comments came after a senior Pakistani minister revealed recently that intelligence
01:05indicates an Indian attack may be imminent. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has urged
01:11both parties to de-escalate and make decisions that prioritize peace and human life.
01:16Now is the time for maximum restraint and stepping back from the brink. That has been my message
01:23in my ongoing outreach with both countries. Make no mistake, a military solution is no solution.
01:31And I offer my good offices to both governments in the service of peace.
01:35Both countries have been on high alert to maintain preparedness in the case of any attack.
01:42India has ordered several states to conduct military drills as Pakistan continues to carry
01:47out missile tests. Arakji is set to visit New Delhi in the coming days to meet officials
01:53and explore ways to restore peace.
