Around 15-hundred people gathered in Alice Springs to watch the annual Bangtail Muster. The parade is a colourful community event which this year raised money for palliative care services in central Australia.

00:34This year's theme is the magic of friendship.
00:37Every year we do a new theme and this year we thought well without friends what have we
00:41got and friends make your community don't they.
00:44The first Bangtail Muster was held in 1959.
00:47It was a cattle muster and referred to the stock workers cutting off the hairy ends of
00:53the tail of the cattle to count them.
00:55Since then the annual event has evolved into a colourful community fundraising parade.
01:01This year the money will go to palliative care services in central Australia with the Alice
01:06Springs Hospital to buy an electric recliner for patients struggling with mobility.
01:11It just means they're out of bed, they can spend time with family, we can wheel them around
01:14the facility if we need to and get out in the sunshine if they want to be out in the sunshine.
01:19And those things are important.
01:21And friendship is also important for community wellbeing.
01:25Alice Springs is such a remote area and many of us are here without extended family so your
01:30friends become your family.
