Did you know that in Iron Man 3, that scene has a much deeper meaning than you might think?
For those who don’t remember, at the end of the movie, Tony Stark throws his arc reactor into the sea. That moment holds great significance in the life of actor Robert Downey Jr.
Everyone knows the actor went through a lot of struggles in the late '90s and early 2000s, when he was arrested multiple times.
But what many don’t know is that on July 4th, 2003 — a very important day in Robert’s life — he decided to get rid of all the drugs he still had.
To do so, he threw them into the Pacific Ocean… while eating a hamburger.
And that’s where the powerful meaning of that scene comes in: it’s when Tony Stark realized he no longer needed the reactor, mirroring the moment when Robert understood he didn’t need substances anymore and chose to let go by throwing them into the sea.
It's incredible the connection he has with the character.
