00:00...for his first race, we're ready for the first race, here in Denver, 2.50 west, rolls into action, Hayden Deegan, center of your screen, gets that inside line, can he hold it, whoa, almost spun the bike out and dropped it, March Banks gets right up the inside, Hayden went to come out of that corner to accelerate and lost the rear end and that's what allowed March Banks to get into the lead.
00:25They had just watered the track before opening ceremonies and I think that's what caught Hayden on that first turn, but he's still in good shape, March Banks has been riding well today, he's shown a good turn of speed.
00:36Yeah, he did, remember he got injured at the beginning of the season, look at these guys leaping through the rhythm section, but he started the season injured, sorry, got injured about second race into the series, so now he's getting back into full swing and he looked really good earlier today, qualifying practice.
00:53Well, there's another Kawasaki in the top three, guess who's back, the 16 year old, Drew Adams, after injury, he's back to full fitness and down goes March Banks, that wet track has caught out another one.
01:07Well, that's very easy to do, so this SMX track crew have been doing the best they can to stay on top of the moisture, the sun has been shining, it's dry, they're doing the best that they can, but it is over water right now, but by main event time, this track will be the best that it can possibly be and that's what you saw with March Banks, he just asked a little bit too much out of the bike, leans the bike over, we saw his teammate do that back in Birmingham.
01:32Got to be really patient here, early on before this track really takes a set and the lines get worked in.
01:42Joe Shimoda, bike 30, middle of his screen, he gets stuck, two other riders who are down, and Joe is way down the order at the moment in 13.
01:53Nothing you can do there, here's March Banks, goes in there, initiates the turn, and as he does that, that dirt being a little bit soft and wet, it just goes away, JT.
02:05Yeah, Ricky, if you watch him lose the front end there, it's so difficult because these riders, they have tire choice on for a hardened racetrack, what it's been all day and what will likely be for the main event,
02:15but it's a very muddy situation right now, so those hard-packed tires simply aren't getting traction in this wet track, so it's a really tricky thing, the track will come in, the tires will come around, because first laps are treacherous.
02:27Yeah, like JT is talking about, so what you have to do to counteract what's happening is you have to keep the bike a little bit more upright, you can't lean it quite as much, and that's how you guard on conditions like this,
02:38but like JT said, this track will take a set, probably be a little bit better in the next 250 heat, 250 heat two, guys will really be able to turn in some good laps.
02:49With the pro motocross season just around the corner this week, Hayden Deegan did a little bit of motocross testing and preparation, but he is keen to take care of business here tonight and win his first 250 Supercross title.
03:02He's won the SMX World Championship the last two years in a row, but he wants this elusive Supercross title.
03:11Got a three and a half second lead over Enzo Lopes.
03:13Garrett Marchbanks has picked himself back up, and he is trying to charge back as best he can. Tell us more, Will.
03:22You guys spoke earlier about that injury there, Ricky, mentioning that. I mean, things have been going a lot better since then.
03:28He's been well since the last time that we saw them on track, saw these West Coast riders on track.
03:33He's been working with Brock Tickle over at Monster Energy Kawasaki, so that's a huge thing.
03:37But the biggest thing that the team told me for Garrett Marchbanks is the amount of motocross training that he's been doing.
03:43They're all prepping, all the teams are, to get ready for the upcoming season.
03:47And they said those speeds are just open, you know. They're just high speed all week long they're training for this.
03:52And just kind of the way it goes, that then translates over into Supercross, and they find more pace on track.
03:57So that might have a lot to do with what we're seeing out of Garrett right now.
04:00Bottom box, Joe Shimoda. He's worked his way back into a transfer zone.
04:03He's perfect. Man, Marchbanks almost got caught up there with, I believe it was Derek Kelly, or it might have been Orland.
04:16Yeah, it was Orland. He had a nice save. Orland got a little sideways, jumping onto that tabletop, trying to guard the inside.
04:24Track slowly starting to get a little bit better. You can see the ruts going into the corners, starting to take shape.
04:35Hayden Deegan now has a healthy five-and-a-half-second lead over Enzo Lopes aboard his Toyota Redlands Bar X Yamaha.
04:43And then, Drew Adams, Max Sanford, Derek Kelly, all in the top five Marchbanks.
04:49Then Joe Shimoda. I think quite a good comeback ride for the man who won here in Denver a year ago.
04:55Spoke to Joe briefly yesterday, and he's like, he's got a big smile on his face.
04:58He said, I have very happy memories of this place.
05:01He's done very well here in years past.
05:04But look, he's got some good lines right here.
05:07Pulled right up to the back of Marchbanks.
05:09Again, not easy to do because Marchbanks riding extremely well earlier today.
05:15However, he is getting held up here, so that has been part of the reason.
05:18Whoa!
05:20Derek Kelly on the 58 there ahead of Marchbanks has done a nice job.
05:25That was wild right there. It happened to Marchbanks.
05:27It's like he high-sided coming out of that corner.
05:34There's the move now. Marchbanks on Kelly.
05:37Shimoda's lining up for a shot as well.
05:39Here comes Joe on the inside of Derek Kelly. Nice move.
05:45These inside lines, especially in the 90-degree corners, are starting to take shape as well.
05:51These riders making that work.
05:53There's a great example of that. Look at Joe.
05:55There's a two-wheel drift.
06:00So Marchbanks has cleared. Max Sanford now.
06:02Shimoda's working on him.
06:04Time is up.
06:05I'll tell you, Lee, the base of this racetrack is so hard, and typically it is.
06:12So it makes it super, super tricky when it's wet on top, but then at the very bottom, it's like ice.
06:20Tricky conditions for these guys.
06:22They really have to be in tune and paying attention to what they can get away with here.
06:27Nice work from Joe Shimoda through that rhythm section. That was beautiful.
06:32Yeah, nice double, triple, triple. Perfect execution.
06:38Told me that his hand has really recovered nicely in these past few weeks off while we've been racing with 250 East Division.
06:44has given his hand more time to recover.
06:49There he is, Drew Adams.
06:52He had the fastest lap of the race this last lap.
06:56He ran a 53.6.
06:59Well, he's the fastest on the track in the last lap.
07:01Pardon me.
07:02Two tenths off of Hayden Deacon's fastest lap, but good to see him back out here.
07:06He's all recovered from his collarbone and had some vertebrae injuries as well.
07:15That's what took the longest to recover, he was saying.
07:18So glad to have Drew back out there, a young, great talent.
07:22So a lap one, turn one, slip and slide.
07:26The rest of it has been very straightforward and quite clinical for Hayden Deacon.
07:31Yeah, comes around to take care of business, start his night, leading this championship the perfect way.
07:38Deacon wins, he won.
07:40This is the fight for second here.
07:42Enzo Lopes has been there for the majority of the race.
07:46Good work.
07:47Yeah.
07:47And Drew Adams with a fine third heat result.
07:50Really nice ride by Enzo Lopes as well for second.
07:56Doing what he needs to do.
