In the final instalment of this revalatory series Ross travels to Russia to infiltrate a brutal gang of Neo-Nazi skinheads.
Transcript
00:01I'm in Moscow, capital of Russia, one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
00:07To meet with a deeply disturbing gang who not only advocate extreme violence,
00:12but also have worrying political ambitions.
00:15We are training people for street fighting, not for sports competitions.
00:20They are combat wounds, scars are decoration for a fist.
00:33I saw him on T. Oh, he's so cute, oh my gosh, like, oh!
00:38Spino!
00:50We've come to Russia, a country where the extreme rights are on the rise.
01:19Violent attacks on immigrants by neo-Nazi gangs happen every day.
01:24It staggers me that in a country who lost millions of people to the Nazis during World War II,
01:30that these gangs exist.
01:32So I've come here to find out why.
01:39My journey begins in my hotel room.
01:42I know these gangs have a presence on the Internet.
01:46Disturbingly, it doesn't take me long to find skinhead sites showing videos of their racist attacks.
01:56They've obviously been trained to do it, how to fight, in a street fight.
02:03So they've actually been trained to go out and kick people in the head and do it properly.
02:09But the skinheads are notoriously hard to track down.
02:12I'm hoping that the more official neo-Nazi websites might provide me with a way in.
02:17One group stands out. It calls itself the National Socialist Society.
02:22It seems highly organized and is run by a man called Dmitry Rumyantsev.
02:27While this Nazi gang aren't stupid enough to admit responsibility for racist attacks,
02:32I know they have direct links with the skinheads and suspect they provide them with combat training.
02:37Dmitry agrees to meet me at a private gym that the NSO are leasing in an old Soviet office block.
02:44Dmitry is in charge of ideology and is effectively the PR man for the Nazi gang.
02:49Dmitry, you tell me a little bit about your organization, please.
03:07We train the people who will take part in momentous events that are going to take place in the future.
03:18We train people for combat.
03:22The commander of our combat units is Sergei.
03:26Sergei Maluta.
03:32We train in different ways. Here in the gym, also outdoors in the city.
03:37We teach different types of combat. You can see for yourself.
03:41You know, many of the guys here I've seen on the website, they look like they might be ex-army.
03:51Yes, a lot of our guys are ex-soldiers. Some are officers.
03:55Sergei fought with the Serbs in Kosovo.
04:00I can see how disenfranchised ex-soldiers might be attracted by the military hierarchy, physical training and even their ideology.
04:09And so people have to pay sometimes for the training, is that correct?
04:12No, it's free.
04:14It's free, is it? As long as you're a member of the organization?
04:18Sometimes skinheads come and train with us and train for free.
04:22We don't ask them their name. If they say they agree with our aims, they can come training with us.
04:29How do skinheads differ in fact from your organization?
04:32We understand that street violence alone doesn't solve problems.
04:35When a person understands that, he leaves the skinheads and comes to us.
04:40Well, that was day one. We spent an afternoon and evening with the National Socialists.
04:49I think they're quite a scary organization. They seem to have lots of money.
04:53They're incredibly well organized. And they seem very determined.
04:57I want to find out more about this gang, so I persuade Dmitry to let me join their regular weekend training session.
05:06We're here with Dmitry and the rest of the NSO boys.
05:10We're in a suburb north of Moscow, and I'm about to start my day's training in the building behind me, which was going to be a hospital.
05:19I think the money ran out now. It's become an NSO urban training ground.
05:24So, here we go. How you doing?
05:30I've no idea what I'm letting myself in for, but I get the feeling they'll be putting me to the test.
05:36The first surprise is one of their recruits. Not everyone here is ex-army or a skinhead.
05:43She seems to be with them. I'm not sure about her urban camouflage, though.
05:53Look at this line. Open up. Pan up. Pan up now.
06:01Just taking our time.
06:06According to Dmitry, the number of gang members is growing, and there is a queue of new Nazis waiting to join.
06:13WP, white power, spelt in English.
06:24I have to say, it is incredibly hot, but Sergei, the short guy who's in charge of the military wing,
06:29he's definitely never heard of deodorant.
06:31I really have to say, I never envisage myself running around a building excited with a load of neo-Nazis in Moscow wearing camouflage.
06:46Is he running a group now? They're running?
06:50There's a gas tube inside the magazine there.
06:53Yeah?
06:54And then he'll load his kind of steel ball bearings.
06:58And obviously, the gas behind it projects the balls.
07:01Is there a go?
07:02It hurts.
07:03Is it loaded?
07:04There?
07:05I'll see if I can shoot it.
07:06Yeah, I can.
07:07And again.
07:08The ball bearings are small, but they go right through the bottle.
07:09Yeah.
07:10He's making his point.
07:12These guys aren't messing around.
07:13There.
07:15I'll see if I can shoot it.
07:20Yeah, I can.
07:25And again.
07:29The ball bearings are small, but they go right through the bottle.
07:33Yeah, he's making his point.
07:37These guys aren't messing around.
07:39They've just done a 5K run with 30 kilos of bricks on their backs.
07:44It seems I've signed up for more than I'd bargained for.
07:47Combat commander Sergei did warn me that the training would be a test of character.
07:54I decided to go without the rucksack on the basis that they are all half my age,
07:58and they've been doing it fairly lower than me.
08:09And I'm caught completely off guard when I have to launch myself into freezing snowmelt.
08:20Whoa!
08:21Big drop.
08:24Whoa!
08:25You know what?
08:26It's a fire.
08:27It's a fire.
08:28I'm hoping if I make it through these tests, I will win Dimitri's trust, and then be able
08:40to find out exactly what they're training for.
08:45So, I have to say, training with an arse is quite an interesting experience.
08:53Erm, completely unsafe.
08:55I mean, we run around the woods in direct sunlight and turn a corner into a cellar for the entire building,
09:03which has got staircases in it, and you drop, like, the height of me plus.
09:07So, two of them missed the foot and went straight down.
09:10Like, you're running in complete darkness for a good 250 metres,
09:15where there are concrete wire posts sticking out of the ground.
09:17Holes in the ground like this.
09:19Look.
09:20Look at it.
09:21I'm surprised any of them want to go around again.
09:25The Nazi recruit I'm most intrigued by is Sasha,
09:28a 20-year-old economics student from a wealthy family.
09:31Her brother introduced her to the gang.
09:34I can't help but wonder why she's here.
09:37To find out, I have to wait until she finishes her shootout exercise,
09:41they call The Duel.
09:43Armed with one of the gas-powered guns,
09:46Sasha's task is to fire as many ball bearings at her opponent as possible.
09:50Their only protective gear seems to be an extra layer of clothing and some ski goggles.
09:55Well, are you ready?
09:56Yes.
09:57Masha.
09:58On the 3rd, we work.
10:001.
10:012.
10:023.
10:03We work!
10:041.
10:052.
10:063.
10:071.
10:082.
10:091.
10:101.
10:111.
10:122.
10:132.
10:141.
10:151.
10:161.
10:172.
10:181.
10:192.
10:201.
10:212.
10:221.
10:231.
10:241.
10:25Do you think that training is ever going to come in handy in the future?
10:40I'm sure this training will be useful.
10:43Of course, I don't know what's going to happen in the future in this country.
10:47But the situation is unstable.
10:50And this is why survival skills will be very important.
10:55And would you take arms to defend Russia?
11:00Yes, of course.
11:03You answer that very, very positively.
11:06Have you envisaged what might happen?
11:10I think a civil war may break out.
11:15Between who?
11:19Between the people who realize the country is in a critical situation
11:22and the people who don't care, who want to ignore it.
11:28Disturbingly, Sasha seems to have swallowed Dimitri's propaganda without question,
11:32although her definition of the enemy remains pretty abstract.
11:35Now it's my turn.
11:51Although for my benefit, it appears the stakes are about to be raised.
11:55And you have to pull the weapon out in the pocket, yeah?
11:59Okay.
12:01Yeah.
12:02Let's go!
12:04Let's go!
12:06The guard will be done, so you will have to shoot on the floor.
12:15In the back!
12:21Are you ready?
12:22Yes!
12:23Let's go!
12:26In the back!
12:27On the count of three, we work.
12:30One, two, three!
12:42This is the most extreme test I've ever had in order to gain access to a gang.
12:47Stop! Stop! Stop!
12:58Boys!
13:03There's no ammunition in my gun.
13:06Artem, thank you very much for shooting me in the finger.
13:09I have a little memory.
13:11Can you tell me what's the purpose of that?
13:14Why do you set fire and why do you shoot at each other like that?
13:18We're training to be ready for the moment when we will need to defend not only our motherland but our people.
13:27Sooner or later that time will come and we will have to take arms and prove that we are men.
13:34And who will you be taking arms against, do you think?
13:38The most likely enemy is the Islamists, the Muslims, the people who may come to our land.
13:44But there are many enemies.
13:47Are you not using the fact that you get people excited by abseiling and by shooting and setting fire to them and getting young people to come to you and then selling them an ideology?
13:58No.
14:00We train only those people who come to us with firm convictions.
14:04We don't accept any stowaways, so to speak.
14:07Do you have a regular job and you do this at the weekends?
14:09Yes, of course. I'm an engineer in a small private firm.
14:14And would your bosses be upset if they knew that you were in the NSO and that you came and did this at the weekends?
14:19I don't think my employers care. As long as I work efficiently and meet the deadlines, they don't mind.
14:26What would happen if a Muslim came to try and join the group?
14:30We haven't had anyone like that try to join. It's hard to tell, but it's unlikely we would accept one. But they don't come.
14:36And one way you could say, oh, it was a nice day out of bonding, or another way you could say it was, this is the way they get these people to do things for them.
14:52And it was very clear that there were people like Dimitri sitting in the background, who wasn't particularly getting his hands dirty, didn't get himself set on fire or didn't end up up to his neck in freezing cold water, who were pulling the strings.
15:04And for me, well, I don't know totally what's going on here, but I'm beginning to think that there is something very ugly underneath all this kind of bon amis and camaraderie.
15:19I do hope today, though, that for me getting involved in some way we've won their trust.
15:26Do I have to stand there like this, with this lot?
15:29I also think that they think that they're using us in some way as some sort of propaganda for them.
15:34We're at the stage where we're not quite sure who's using who right now.
15:40So far Dimitri and his gang have admitted to training for a future war against immigrants.
15:46But tomorrow I'm going to meet some of the people who live with the reality of daily racist attacks.
15:57I'm in Russia on the trail of a neo-Nazi gang I suspect is behind a growing number of attacks on immigrants.
16:05After the collapse of the Soviet Union, former republics like Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia suddenly became countries in their own right.
16:14And their citizens are now viewed as foreigners by most Russians.
16:17Many immigrants find work in markets such as this.
16:24These are the people the Nazi gang see as the enemy.
16:29If you look at the faces of most of these people here, if you look at the colour of their skin, these people would be referred to as blacks by the NSO and the neo-Nazis.
16:43Most of them are Azeris, Tajiks and what the Russians are saying is they've been pushed out of the marketplace by these people.
16:55But the people that you can't see who are standing behind us are the owners of the market and they are Russians.
17:01And all the policemen and all the security here are all Russians.
17:05So these people may be stealing other people's jobs, but the people in control still are the white Russians.
17:11According to recent estimates, a third of Moscow's population are immigrants.
17:19And while the government has stated that they need more immigrant workers to keep the economy afloat, it's doing little, if anything, to prevent racist attacks.
17:27Many of these crimes occur openly on public transport.
17:43Only recently, a gang shouting glory to Russia attacked an Armenian teenager, Arta Sartayan.
17:51Arta didn't survive.
17:53This is the train that Arta took home every night from work.
17:59It was only two stations away from home, Pushkin Station.
18:05And these guys got on the train and changed his life and his family's life forever.
18:10In the early 90s, Arta's parents, Edik and Irina, fed the anti-Armenian pogroms in Azerbaijan and came to Moscow hoping for a better life.
18:27Instead, they lost their son.
18:31Despite fearing for their own safety, they've agreed to talk to me.
18:39The investigator told me that there were two attackers, but near the entrance door to the carriage was one more.
18:49The third one, who was watching.
18:53It sounded as though it was an organized group.
18:57He was such a skinny boy. He had a very thin neck. What was there to cut up?
19:04But they stabbed him six times in the neck.
19:07What for?
19:12Why was my son, whom I raised, to whom I gave all my love, all my tenderness, why did this non-human kill my son?
19:26A real man would never attack from behind. Only traitors, only weaklings do it.
19:42A strong person would never behave like that.
19:45People who hide them are also weak people.
19:48They teach to attack secretly. They never say things to his face.
19:52They are rats. They are cowards.
19:59The authorities define this as a racially motivated crime.
20:03However, as yet, nobody is being charged and the case is gathering dust.
20:11Irina now refuses to let a surviving son take public transport.
20:15But every day, she has to take the train on which the attack took place to work.
20:24Now all she wants is to leave Russia, a country she hoped would be their haven.
20:29The next morning, Dmitri, leader of the Nazi gang, has arranged an interview.
20:46While they will not admit responsibility for racist attacks, they seem strangely proud of an apparent work of fiction.
20:52And I'm to meet the author.
20:55Hello, Ross. This is Dmitri, the author of the book that I gave you.
21:02I hope you will find the general language.
21:05All right. Thank you.
21:07Bye-bye.
21:08Bye-bye.
21:11Although this account purports to be fictional, the author refuses to show his face on camera.
21:20And he has admitted to me that the account is based on his personal experiences as a skinhead.
21:29This may be the closest I get to a confession.
21:32He reads me an excerpt.
21:34In the next carriage, the skinheads stood by the door.
21:42Watch the communication cord.
21:45Don't attack altogether.
21:51The immigrant woke up and saw that he was surrounded by angry skinheads.
21:56He looked around in desperation.
21:58Twice the immigrant tried to get to his feet.
22:02But the skinheads pushed him down.
22:03The skinheads were removing their belts and chains.
22:05The air was electrified with calm and calculated hatred.
22:08There was nothing left for him to do but to await the execution.
22:09There was a countdown in everyone's head.
22:11Four, three, two, one.
22:13One, two, one.
22:14Let's go.
22:15Let's go.
22:16Why the fuck did you come here?
22:17Bitch.
22:18Die.
22:19Die.
22:20Die.
22:21Die.
22:22Die.
22:23Die.
22:24Die.
22:25Die.
22:26Die.
22:27Die.
22:29Die.
22:30Having arrived home, they phoned one another to ask if it were to go back to the police.
22:31Let's go.
22:32You're dead.
22:33One, two, three, two, one.
22:35Let's go.
22:36Why the fuck did you come here?
22:37Die.
22:38Die.
22:39Die.
22:40Die.
22:41Die.
22:42Die.
22:43Die.
22:44Die.
22:45Die.
22:55Die.
22:56Die.
22:57one another to ask if everyone arrived safely at 3 o'clock in the morning they
23:01were asleep with a sense that they had thoroughly fulfilled their duty so we
23:05know I had to listen to this disgusting rambling for over an hour and he seems
23:12pretty proud of the effect the book is having on the far right
23:16moment I could have blown a piece of Klinger since the time the book was
23:20written the movement has made a step forward yes it's not least that now if
23:24you look at the statistics the victims are not just beaten up they're stabbed
23:28to death this new bit I mean will do what
23:34so it's not surprising the immigrants are terrified at the thought of leaving their
23:38homes and coming face to face with a bunch of these thugs you would hope they
23:44could turn to the police for help however in Moscow that isn't the case just about
23:49to meet a lady called gav heart she's from Tajikistan one of the poorest the
23:54former Soviet Socialist Republics she's basically the only ray of hope for
23:58many illegal immigrants here that have race hate crimes committed against them
24:01and her work is so sensitive that we're not allowed to film her in her office so
24:05we're going to have to meet her at her house
24:08Gavar deals with almost 100 cases of racial abuse and attacks every year she
24:14struggles to even get the authorities to take notice and getting the cases to
24:18court is even harder convictions are extremely rare
24:22but it's not just racist gangs that Gavar is fighting disturbingly several of her cases
24:37also involve the police that's very good please thank you spasiba welcome
24:45wasn't there an incident once where a girl was being kidnapped and she rang you
24:49would be ashamed it's only yes a Tajik girl was put in a car by some drunken policeman
24:55they were on the way to the forest probably so she could be raped but the police failed to notice
25:01she had a mobile phone she called me and said I'm being taken somewhere but not to the police
25:07station so we told her what to do she said to them I just called my lawyer they know I'm here so
25:16then they changed their minds and took her to the police station how did the police get money illegally
25:25from immigrants it's a nice dishonest policemen have worked out all sorts of ways to make money
25:31just cool a local policeman can charge a work of 500 rubles a month to stay in a flat or for false
25:40registration to live in Moscow or to prevent you from being locked up in the worst case they threatened
25:48to fit you up for something like planting drugs in your pocket the police have worked out
25:54all sorts of ways to make big money to do it to me but she digi I'm not surprised that most of
26:03gavar's clients have refused to talk to me but I'm on my way to meet one tajik immigrant
26:09Rusta who stood up to the police and has agreed to speak to me Rusta's problems all started after a
26:18night out with a friend he was keen to get home a policeman asked him for his papers when
26:24Rusta said he didn't have any the policeman took him to a special police room they have in all the
26:30tube stations it was there the policeman asked Rusta for a bribe of 20 pounds when Rusta said he didn't
26:38have any money the policeman said you know I can kill you he took the safety catch off and aimed the
26:48pistol at me and opened fire from a distance of one and a half meters he was aiming at my forehead but
26:55I turned my head a little and the bullet hit me in the mouth the bullet went into his jaw and took out
27:03a tooth it then traveled down his neck and lodged in his shoulder I could see my reflection in the
27:13mirror there was blood everywhere my friend picked me up and started shouting at the policeman I said
27:20call an ambulance for me the policeman replied you go into the street and use a public phone if you want
27:26an ambulance on tax a phone up to the whistle at the Sun score with Gavar's help Rostam got a lawyer and
27:34after a year-long battle the case eventually came to court amazingly the policeman was found guilty and
27:43sentenced to nine years they wouldn't have done it to a white Russian nor to a Muscovite but when
27:56they see black people Tajiks Uzbeks they start to torment us we did I need much night is divots a
28:04after the policeman was sentenced did you ever experience any trouble with the police a small
28:11little bit smaller it occasionally I still get stopped but I'm registered to live here please
28:17ask what are you doing in Moscow I once said you can deport me if you like I'm fed up with Moscow the
28:24police already shot me once so deport me I'd be better off back at home with police attitudes like
28:37this it's no wonder that Dmitry's gang think they're above the law the Russian government claims it
28:45sorely needs more workers to save its economy meanwhile Dmitry's Nazi gang keep openly recruiting and
28:52training Russians in preparation for a war against the very immigrants their country's future depends on
29:00tonight is kind of martial arts night or you know teaching each other how to kick people in the
29:12head let's go meet them then as I walk over Dmitry is once again on the sidelines
29:23they are practicing street fighting we are training people for street fighting not for sports competitions
29:34and even delicate girls like this are learning to fight that is why of all the political organizations
29:44we are the most feared we bring fear to the streets then Dmitry tells me about his absurd vision for Russia's
29:55future when we take power the first thing to do is to arrest all the corrupt officials and decide the fate
30:05of each of them we will then have to put in their place young guys who are now fighting in the streets
30:11and have no experience of government of course it won't be easy what's in body in a world second
30:20priority is to get rid of all the immigrants they need to be put in camps and prisons like the corrupt
30:27officials there's on factor so that was to meet your views I mean they're all based on on mine camp
30:40for Hitler's rise to power he's got these kids running around for him like his little Hitler youth he's
30:47advocating putting people on trains and sending them off to camps people that he doesn't like he's also
30:54going to replace the Duma with those kids they're all going to be the ministers for foreign affairs the
31:01minister for education the minister for agriculture can't wait to see what happens when they get in
31:06charge the frightening thing is that you know I don't believe for one second any of this is ever
31:13going to happen but the fact that he has a following here and the fact that he believes so vehemently in
31:21everything that he says makes him a rather scary human being
31:24even more frightening is the fact that no one is speaking out against the meat tree and his gang
31:37and unlike any other gang I visited around the world they actually have their supporters in the
31:43Russian parliament he says I'm a Russian Nikolai Kuryanovich the most outspoken of the far-right
31:52politicians has agreed to meet me he tells me he's a big fan of both Hitler and Stalin which is a bit
32:11confusing maybe any dictator will do I have read some of the books written by the leaders of the
32:20Third Reich I have seen films I like this spirituality the unity of the nation the imperial power and he
32:34has a barbaric solution as to how to save the Russian economy migrant workers need to be used as cheap
32:44labor a form of mild slavery they shouldn't be allowed to become Russian citizens they have to work pay
32:51their taxes and go home go home so mr. Kuryanovich a man that advocates public hangings mild forms of
33:02slavery whatever that means ethnic cleansing I mean one of the things that he advocates is the removal of
33:08passports from white Russian women who go out with what he calls blacks the worrying thing is he has
33:14quite a strong support people quite like what he says tomorrow is my last day Dmitry has agreed to
33:22take me to their secret training camp on the outskirts of the city it's my final chance to really get to
33:28the bottom of the sinister reality behind this gang it's my last day in Moscow or after two weeks I have
33:38finally been accepted into the heart of the neo-nazi gang I'm about to be taken to their secret headquarters
33:43on the outskirts of the city there's surreal atmosphere I feel like I could be in Germany in 1933 preparing
33:59to go to go on a picnic with a young Adolf Hitler and Ava Braun while I've declined to have a kick
34:09around I'm sticking with it as this could be my chance to reveal the truth behind this gang we're just
34:21about to go to the NSO headquarters it's a two-hour drive out of Moscow and it requested that we're all
34:27blindfolded for the journey in case we reveal its location I'm not sure who's more nervous elena the
34:33interpreter or me mobile telephone it's
34:37towards nerves
34:50Cody Hoffman please tell you say something you have this
34:53you can Kamala a milk
34:55I'll drink the water
34:56no silence
34:56I'm not sure what you have this
34:58there are
35:01I've got an emergency
35:06Obviously, I have a balaclava on my head, and the lady next to me is Elena, our translator.
35:16She has a balaclava on her head, and it wouldn't take the most brightest person to work out.
35:20The cameraman possibly hasn't got a balaclava on his head, and we haven't got cuffs on,
35:25so we could look out the window, but we're obviously doing this in their trust, so we
35:29could go there and film this space.
35:32It's good to be here, not on my own, but in company.
35:39You think you're safe with me?
35:41With Ross.
35:42Oh, yes, sure, Ross.
35:44I can't say this is the most enjoyable trip I've ever been on.
35:48We have no idea where we're going, they've taken away our only means of communication,
35:53and our balaclavas stink.
35:57After a two-hour drive, we finally arrive at their secret dacha.
36:02I think we're here, and I think we can take our masks, or our balaclavas, or whatever
36:07they are.
36:09It's obvious that Dmitri hasn't completely relaxed his guard yet, and he immediately
36:18decides who I can and can't meet.
36:21I'm told to take my shoes off.
36:38I think it goes for all of us, I believe.
36:45And having established Nazis' light clean carpets, they then take me on an interminable
36:50tour of the house.
36:51Here's the kitchen.
36:52Here is the kitchen, we are ready to share this.
36:54Here we go.
36:55Here we go.
36:56Here's the kitchen.
36:57We are ready to eat.
36:58Here we go.
36:59Here's the kitchen, we are prepared to eat.
37:00Alexey, work on the microphone.
37:01Yeah.
37:02Here we go.
37:03Here we go.
37:04Here we go.
37:05Yes.
37:06There are girls.
37:12There's a lot of training.
37:17A cabinet.
37:28When I get outside, the garden party is in full swing.
37:31It's a strange mix of shaven-headed thugs
37:33and impressionable young girls.
37:3516-year-old Katie went to a prestigious American school in Moscow
37:39and is now the gang's web illustrator.
37:42Two years ago, at 14, I turned Nazi.
37:47But what was the sparing moment when you were 14 to want to become...
37:50I saw Hitler hunting.
37:51Oh, he's so cute. Oh, my God.
37:53It's like, oh.
37:55But he's dead. He's not real anymore.
37:58There's something like Mickey Mouse or, like,
38:00Sunday Claus or Superman first.
38:03Katie's also a budding journalist who enjoys writing for Nazi publications.
38:09Now I'm writing a column at McDonald's.
38:11McDonald's is a true Aryan food.
38:13It's true Aryan food?
38:14Yeah.
38:16Of course.
38:17Why of course?
38:18Oh, just a joke. It's funny.
38:20Oh, just a joke.
38:21Oh, well, we like it.
38:22I should go.
38:23Glamour.
38:24Some of the people here have gone out and beaten black people up.
38:29I know. I used to do that for one month.
38:31You went out and beat people up?
38:33Well, when I come first, I should... I should...
38:37was, like...
38:39What happened then?
38:40Well, I killed one man.
38:42You killed a bloke, yeah?
38:43Yeah.
38:46How did you do that?
38:47With a knife.
38:48But I'm not doing that anymore.
38:50I just used... I had to.
38:53Why did you have to?
38:54Well, because I, like, make friends with all those people and stuff.
38:57Sorry?
38:58To make friends and stuff.
38:59Well, just feel how it feels like.
39:01I don't like killing.
39:02It's not funny.
39:05But I think the robots will kill all the humanity and we'll all die.
39:09Right.
39:11Like in the movies?
39:12Yeah.
39:15Katie seems to be trying to shock me,
39:17and it's difficult to take anything she says seriously.
39:21But I have no doubts about this man's credibility.
39:24Tezak, whose name means hatchet in Russian,
39:26is a fully-fledged member of a skinhead gang.
39:30These are the people I've been wanting to meet.
39:34My name is Ross.
39:36Tezak.
39:38Shultz.
39:40You've got some nice knives there.
39:41Can I have a look at your knife?
39:43Yes.
39:45It's the Russian bear, huh?
39:48What happened to your knee?
39:54I hurt it a little.
39:56Things happen.
39:57Our life is hard.
39:58It's dangerous on the street.
40:00Immigrants attack people.
40:03They're combat wounds.
40:05Scars are decoration for a fist.
40:07It's beautiful to have a scar.
40:09When you say combat wounds, what kind of combat are they from?
40:17From fights with the blacks.
40:20In a fight, you don't always notice immediately that your enemy has a weapon,
40:25especially when it's dark.
40:27Then you just feel the blood running from your arm.
40:29But what can you do?
40:30In the desert, there are aggressive wild animals.
40:39You have to hunt them.
40:41If you don't, they attack the peaceful population.
40:44That's it.
40:48If you kill one, a thousand immigrants won't come.
40:52Tezak shares some of Dimitri's warped logic
40:54and believes that terror against immigrants is for their benefit.
40:59When they come here, they suffer from eating the wrong food.
41:02They try to sell things.
41:04But people here don't like them.
41:05People are always trying to kill them or humiliate them.
41:10Tezak says he became a racist after Chechen rebels
41:13supposedly blew up several blocks of flats in 1999.
41:15In the first block of flats lived a girl whom I knew.
41:21I said, let's go and kill Chechens.
41:25I took a knife and decided I would kill a Chechen.
41:29So I saw some guys with clubs and they saw me with a knife.
41:34They felt my mood and they said, come with us.
41:37We went to a market and punished some Chechens for the crime committed by their compatriots.
41:43Tezak has confirmed, but I suspected all along that this neo-Nazi gang is harboring racist murderers.
41:56Meanwhile, Katie tries to catch my attention again.
42:00Want to see some movies?
42:02Yeah, sure.
42:04They made those movies, those guys.
42:06Tezak.
42:08We go inside in order to see Katie's screen properly.
42:11The Nazi gang have made huge efforts to give the impression that violence is what they're all about.
42:19It's obviously difficult for people to talk about crimes with which they haven't been charged.
42:26It turns out that Tezak made those videos I saw in my hotel room at the beginning of my journey.
42:36And there are far more disturbing ones to come.
42:39It doesn't look very realistic. It looks like it's been set up.
42:53But anyway, it's propaganda, isn't it?
43:08Yes, of course it's propaganda. It goes without saying.
43:10However, some clips are obviously genuine.
43:22Blood is going to splash on the wall. Beautiful, isn't it?
43:24Beautiful, isn't it?
43:32What do you think of this thing, Dimitri?
43:35About which clip? In general? I watch them with pleasure. I like them.
43:39A lot of people who want to watch this program, Dimitri, are going to be very shocked by your opinions and your philosophy.
43:50What would you say to those people?
43:53I would like the viewers in Europe to remember the bombs in the London Underground and what's happening in Holland, what happened in France and Denmark.
44:08If they don't like our philosophy after that, then those people don't deserve being called people.
44:15This is the most distasteful gang I've ever met. We still have to keep up the pretense of enjoying their hospitality as we have no idea where we are or how we're going to get back to Moscow.
44:31National socialists and skinheads dressing up in uniforms, playing soldiers, espousing far-right beliefs may sound like a bit of a joke, but the fact is the far-right are on the rise here and racist attacks are a daily occurrence.
44:52There is no doubt that this gang is either directly or indirectly behind racist attacks in Moscow.
44:58Their literature and videos alone are inciting other racists to attack defenceless immigrants.
45:05According to one estimate, over half the world's skinheads now live in Russia.
45:11And that's an awful lot of mines for Dimitri to fill with hate.
45:28The idea of the ones who are having informations for the war, I mean, they can't be the same.
45:29They can't be the same. They can't be the same. The actual fame that I could do, they have seen multiple times, they can't be the same.
45:31She is still on the edge. They can't be the same.
45:32I think that happens.
45:33The ones who are out there, they can't be the same.
45:34We can't be the same.
45:35They can't be the same.
45:36The last thing that involves a secret in-game situation.
45:37It's hard to err.
45:38The next year is a great thing in the future.
45:39We can't do that.
45:40The main physical situation in a new world's skinhead is what this happens.
45:42It's hard to do so many things.
45:43The first place in the world's heart.
45:44And the right time they move like,
