We’d all love a bit of time away from our phones, and where better than Wales’ beautiful countryside. Vango and CampWild have teamed up to put a bit of research into how much we rely on our phones, and they say that most of us can’t go a few hours without them.

00:00not only are you able to have seclusion and privacy and you're immersed entirely in nature
00:06because there's no campsite there but you're also you've got time to actually slow down
00:10and that's that detox bit away from technology away from your pace of everyday life
00:15nowadays we're absolutely glued to these things most of you will have been on your phones for at
00:21least some time today most of you might also absolutely love a break from them camp wild
00:26and vango have teamed up to take a look at how much time we spend on our phones and how we can
00:31take a so-called digital detox quite surprising just how much we rely on our phones but it's
00:36something we all have to deal with but there are ways of taking a break from it outside in the wild
00:42vango has undertaken a survey to to to look at what like basically the disc the ability for people to
00:51disconnect from the phone how hard is it for people to actually come off their phones um and
00:55to spend time outside immersed in nature away from technology and those results that survey have been
01:01have proven quite surprising i think in terms of just how how little um you know people are actually
01:06able to get away from their phones it's the phone is the first thing that you see in the morning is
01:11usually what has your alarm on it and it's often the last thing you see at the end of the day when
01:14you put it down and that whole day in between you're connected to work to friends to to all sorts
01:18of different things so we understand that being digitally connected or being you know constantly
01:24notified of everything is not necessarily great for our mental health and our anxieties um but at
01:29the same time we're not able to disconnect from it in the way that we're living life at the moment
01:33so by maybe stepping outside into nature a bit more and and removing ourselves from from one thing we're
01:39going to be able to break habits of of staying connected and the stresses that that brings with it
01:44the reality is that our phones are a part of our lives and we all know and accept that they can be
01:50incredibly useful tools for many different things especially when we're out in nature like for maps
01:55or contacting people in emergencies and of course taking pictures so we aren't going to get rid of
01:59them entirely not necessarily being able to fully kind of put down technology and not have to use it
02:05entirely i think it's more case of um if you are going to be using your phone then making sure that
02:10when you know it and they allowing yourself time and space to do it outside um you know your phone
02:15is a tool even outside you can use like an app to tell you what bird songs around you um but it's
02:19it's not it's it's as chris was saying earlier today switching off your notifications it's it's it's not
02:25using it to scroll through social media it's um it's making sure you're using technology to enable
02:30your time outside rather than actually being inside i mean for us it's it's making people understand that
02:35there's a knowledge barrier for a lot of people in in access the outdoors and that can come from
02:41lack of experience lack of knowledge um accessibility of kit cost of kit wales is an incredible place
02:49with incredible scenery so outside of getting away from our phones we should probably take any excuse
02:54we can to get out there and explore our incredible natural spaces whenever we get the chance
