Despite once being a domestic staple, landlines are falling out of favour in houses across Wales and the rest of the UK. Mobile phones have meant that people simply don’t need a home phone anymore, but is that a mistake? We’re asking people in Newport if they think landlines should stay, and why they’re still important to plenty of people.

00:04I think they're very useful.
00:07So, with mobile phones, I'm the only, like, kid that can't work technology.
00:12In work, I can't use it, I can't use my phone properly.
00:15And getting hold of my grandparent, she was disabled,
00:18and she used to struggle a lot with her legs, and she had falls a lot.
00:22I don't actually have a landline.
00:24My parents got rid of this about two years ago as well.
00:28I think it's a sad thing that they're going, but I completely understand it,
00:34because the way life is now, no-one's really home that long.
00:43Yeah, everyone has their phones on them.
00:45I mean, you could just look around now, everyone has a phone in their hand.
00:48Well, I think most people have mobiles who don't have the use for them,
00:51but especially for older people, mobile phones are quite a new thing,
00:55so to have them is quite useful to connect to people.
00:57Maybe we would, like, live further away as well.
