00:00Food bloggers are speaking out against popular Australian influencer Brooke Bellamy,
00:04accusing her of plagiarizing recipes in her best-selling 2024 cookbook,
00:08Bake with Brookie, and we're here to break it all down.
00:11According to reports, the controversy began when Nagi Mahashi, creator of the food blog
00:16Recipe 10 Eats, discovered striking similarities between her recipes and those in Bellamy's book,
00:21including Mahashi's signature caramel slice and baklava. At the center of the dispute is
00:26Brooke Bellamy, a Brisbane-based baker and the force behind Brookie Bakehouse, who has built a
00:31huge TikTok following in recent years and is known for her picture-perfect desserts and viral baking
00:36videos. But for some, the recipes felt too familiar, prompting Mahashi to contact the publishers of
00:42Bake with Brookie, Penguin Random House Australia, last year about possible plagiarism. And Mahashi
00:47states she was met with legal threats instead of answers. Now reports state a second blogger,
00:54Sally McKinney, of Sally's Baking Addiction, has joined the conversation, alleging that one of
00:59her signature recipes also appears in Bellamy's books, as well as Bellamy's YouTube channel,
01:04without credit to McKinney. Bellamy has since responded in a since-expired Instagram story,
01:09denying all plagiarism claims, stating,
01:11I do not copy other people's recipes. Like many bakers, I draw inspiration from the classics.
01:17But the creations you see at Brookie's Bakehouse reflect my own experience, taste, and passion for
01:23baking. Born of countless hours of my childhood, spent in my home kitchen with mom. Brooke even
01:28shared an old photo from 2016 as proof she made caramel slices long before Mahashi's version was
01:34published in 2020, as shared by Marie Claire. Even with receipts, public backlash has been fierce for
01:41Brooke. Some users are leaving sarcastic comments like, whose recipe is this one? And yum, I love
01:46plagiarized recipes on recent posts. Even Mahashi feels the personal attacks against Brooke have been
01:52a lot and asked her audience to stop with the trolling. I know I've made serious allegations.
01:58This does not justify the personal attacks that I've seen online. And I'm asking you to stop.
