Burnley's Municipal Choir who practise at Burnley College are on the hunt for new members.
Transcript
00:00Well, it's been going for over a hundred years now,
00:02or four and nineteen, anyway, a long time ago.
00:07And we have currently 120 members.
00:12The membership has been up and down,
00:14but it's as strong now as it has ever been.
00:18And it's going really, really well.
00:21Totally inclusive choir.
00:23There's no auditions.
00:25You just come, and we expect you to sing and enjoy yourself.
00:34And that's it, basically.
00:46For the piece is The Dream of Durantius by Edward Elgar,
00:51which is a huge classical piece of work,
00:54which is just an amazing choral number.
01:00Elgar wrote a lot of very romantic and very beautiful pieces.
01:04And towards the end of his life, he wrote this piece,
01:08which has actually been regarded as one of his best works
01:10by many people.
01:11We're always looking for new members.
01:19We like people to come and join us, yeah.
01:22Because, obviously, there's a way of stitch people
01:24who drop out for one reason or another.
01:27They'll help old age or whatever.
01:30So, yeah, we're always looking for new people to come and join us.
01:33The younger, the better.
01:35Everybody's made very well, which is a really lovely, special place to be.
01:43It's all there on the website.
01:44If you look up to any municipal choir,
01:47it'll tell you everything you need to know,
01:49how to join, what to do.
01:51Yeah, but it's dead easy.
01:52There's no auditions.
01:55Everybody is well.
01:55It's something that's enjoyable because it's something you're doing
02:03together with other people, first of all, in a choir.
02:06But also, I would say, it's good for the heart and good for the soul
02:09and good for the memory.
02:11So all of those things make it a really all-round winner.
02:16And it's just enjoyable.
02:17Most of our concerts are the mechanics in Burnley.
02:26It's a wonderful theatre there.
02:31But we also sing at St Peter's Church.
02:34We do the Messiah.
02:37I had this Messiah there once a year.
02:39We also sing at St Catherine's on Todd Road and St Stephen's.
02:45So it's not just at the mechanics, but mostly at the mechanics, yeah.
