Pittsburgh recorded one of its strongest winds in recent history on April 29 as severe storms pushed east. But the Northeast isn't done with storms for the week yet.
Transcript
00:00Take a look at the ongoing severe thunderstorm watches. I wanted to mention that there's an
00:04addition here of the area of central and eastern Kentucky now under a severe thunderstorm watch
00:08until 1 a.m. Also areas around Louisville still under a remaining severe thunderstorm watch
00:14until 8 p.m. central or 9 eastern and then we're still under a watch farther east as well. So
00:19Pittsburgh, we had a remarkable storm earlier and again really disruptive. We had a 71 mile
00:24per hour wind gust, the third strongest gust measured at the airport. In recent history
00:30here, 83 mile per hour gust 20 or 30 years ago. Five years ago we had a 75 mile per hour
00:36gust, but this is on a short list. Fierce, tenacious winds, lots of outages. Hundreds of thousands
00:41in Pennsylvania are without power and into tonight the severe storms continue to move east here. Now
00:46you'll notice where a lot of the storms are right now. We're into the yellow zone. Some risk of severe
00:50storms, but still some parts of upstate New York and we're dealing still with some issues
00:54here into Kentucky as these move farther east. We're going to enter a more stable environment
00:59that's going to erode some of these storms and they won't be as intense as they had been,
01:03but still we've been very warm. 20 degree difference in some spots here between the storms and those
01:08who have been cooled down by the storms and as the winds continue to be very active, even behind
01:13the storms, behind the front 24 mile per hour, refreshing cool breeze there into Detroit, Michigan.
01:18Now that all plows east and our front will be far offshore as we get deeper into the night,
01:23but the tail of this kind of gets hung up and watch what happens tomorrow. More storms build along that
01:27boundary there into Virginia. So there are areas in the mid-Atlantic states that'll still face the
01:32chance for some rain and we could use some of this in Virginia and Maryland on Wednesday. Thursday,
01:37though, this all comes back in with some more showers and thunderstorms and some of these could be
01:42severe on Thursday and again on Friday. So Wednesday, cooler for most, but still along the tail of that front
01:48here. We still have some showers and storms around parts of Virginia, southern West Virginia.
01:52Thursday, this buckles north again. More thunderstorms return to the area and we could use some rain in
01:57New Jersey. A wet start to May. Hard to believe May begins on Thursday, Damian. We're going to have
02:02some wet weather here, unfortunately, on a Saturday once again in the northeast.
