00:00On the other news, the modernization of Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or the FIVOX marks a significant step towards enhancing the country's disaster preparedness.

00:12With plans to expand monitoring stations, increase its poll or pool of experts as it aims to better safeguard communities and minimize the impact of natural disasters.

00:24PTV's Rod Lagusa tells us more.

00:27Following the periodic eruption of Bulusan Volcano, FIVOX stressed the possibility of another eruption occurring in the coming days.

00:36Because of this, the agency is strictly reminding the public not to enter the 4-kilometer danger zone.

00:42The volcano is currently under alert level 1.

00:44However, FIVOX Director Teresito Bakulkol explained that even if the volcano is alert level 0, another periodic eruption could still happen.

00:52FIVOX recorded around 89 volcanic earthquakes over the past 24 hours.

00:56On the part of Office of Civil Defense, four towns in Sorosogon were affected by ashfall impacting around 27,000 individuals.

01:16Based on the agency's data, 19 families are in evacuation centers.

01:20The OCD has coordinated with the provincial government, the local disaster risk seduction management office, and the Bureau of Fire Protection to conduct flashing operations on the streets.

01:29Dahil nagdudulot po ito ng low visibility kapag nadadaanan ng mga sasakyan, at upang makaiwas tayo sa dagdag pinsala na maaaring maidulot ng traffic accidents,

01:39minabuti po ng ating Bureau of Fire na bugahan ng tubig ang mga ashfall na ito.

01:43Bukod po dito, ang ating pong DSWD ay nakapagbigay na rin po ng 20,000 food packs sa mga affected families,

01:50at meron din po silang mahigit 200,000 food packs na nakahanda pong i-deploy.

01:55The OCD has also distributed face masks, and in case of another eruption, additional evacuation centers are already set up and prepped.

02:02Meanwhile, in relation to monitoring volcanic activity, faster disseminations of information or warnings to the public about volcanic eruptions,

02:10earthquakes or tsunamis is expected following the signing of FIBOX Modernization Act by President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr.

02:17According to FIBOX Director Teresito Bacolcol, the agency needs 300 seismic stations, but right now it only has 123.

02:24Also, this will help augment the agency's monitoring equipment for volcanoes.

02:28Of the country's 24 active volcanoes, only 10 are currently being monitored with only two, Taal and Mayon, having complete monitoring systems.

02:36With the passage of this FIBOX Modernization Act, at least yung angin most active volcanoes will have complete monitoring equipment,

02:46and the rest will have at least the minimum requirement for monitoring volcanoes.

02:51Bacolcol also said that having a centralized data center will help integrate seismic volcano and tsunami data in real-time,

02:58along with modern laboratory for real-time data analysis.
