00:00In other news, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or FIVOGS observed an increase in seismic activity at Bulusan Volcano in Sosogon province with 98 volcanic earthquakes recorded so far.

00:14PTV's Rod Lagusad has the report.

00:18Following the observed increase in seismic activity at Bulusan Volcano, FIVOGS says that a sudden steam-driven phreatic eruption is possible.

00:27FIVOGS Director Teresito Bacolcol explained that from April 12 to 21, a total of 98 volcanic earthquakes were recorded.

00:34Of these, 94 were classified as volcano tectonic earthquakes.

00:37As water slips into the ground or yung groundwater natin slips to the lower part and gets into contact with hot volcanic materials or hot rocks,

00:48yun yun, it heats up and nag-expand.

00:51Kapag nag-expand siya, it would require more space.

00:55So parang ginigit-git niya yung mga bato.

00:58So as a result, nagkakaroon tayo ng paggalaw ng mga bato, nagka-crack yung mga bato.

01:02Meanwhile, four of the recorded quakes were low-frequency volcanic earthquakes.

01:06Ito yung movement ng fluid.

01:11Nagproproduce din niya ng earthquake.

01:13Yung as the hot fluids would move, it also generates low-frequency volcanic earthquakes.

01:17It could be water or it could be gases when you say hot fluids.

01:23He added that these are signs of building of pressure that could lead to a sudden steam-driven phreatic eruption.

01:29Once the pressure becomes too high, an eruption may occur.

01:33Should that happen, the alert level of the volcano could be raised to alert level 1.

01:37At this point, we are still maintaining alert level 0.

01:41While yung number of earthquakes natin tumataas, yung overall activity remains low and mahihina lang din naman yung mga earthquakes natin.

01:49So there's no strong indication of magmatic movement that would justify an increase in alert level.

01:56The last time the volcano was under alert level 1 was from October 2023 to November 2024.

02:01Volcanic earthquakes are only one of the several parameters monitored by PHEBOX.

02:07Which is why the agency reminds the public that entry into the 4-kilometer danger zone around the volcano is strictly prohibited.

02:14Bulusan volcano last erupted in June 2022.
