00:03A heartbroken Derbyshire widow is suing a counsel over a pothole she claims caused her biker husband's
00:09death. Robert Mewcombe, age 70, from Ilkeston, died after being thrown from his motorcycle on
00:16the A43 in Walgrave, Northamptonshire. A coroner later ruled that the grandfather of three's death
00:22had been caused as a result of a degraded road surface. The local authority claims he was
00:27speeding and made a dangerous manoeuvre, something his family refutes. His widow Aileen, who is 71,
00:34has now launched High Court legal action against Northamptonshire Council, claiming substantial
00:39damage. The local authority denies liability, and the case will go before a judge if the
00:45two sides cannot agree a settlement. A community funding scheme has donated funds to provide a
00:52new play area at a park near Matlock. Whitworth Park in Darleydale is set to welcome play equipment
00:58to provide a brand new space for exercise and play for local children.
01:02It comes after Darleydale Town Council applied to Platforms Community Chests, a funding pot for
01:08local charities, clubs and other not-for-profit organisations, for any projects linked directly
01:13pay for Platforms customers. The Platform Housing Group, one of the largest housing associations
01:18in the area, has donated £15,000 to be spent on the play equipment at Whitworth Park.
