00:04A Derbyshire mum has been jailed after her son played truant for years, even though he
00:09was offered the chance to pick the lessons that he went to, a court has heard.
00:13The schoolboy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also excused from wearing uniform
00:17and told he could study part-time, but he still failed to attend regularly, leading
00:22to his mother getting a suspended prison term for his absences last year.
00:27Now she has been jailed for four weeks after magistrates heard of the efforts of education
00:31chiefs in the Derbyshire Dales to get the youngster to attend lessons.
00:36The court was told that the boy attended just 27% of classes in the academic year which
00:41ended in 2021.
00:43He failed to turn up at all for the next two years and attendance was just 6% during this
00:48academic year.
00:49The mother, who was in her 40s, admitted failing to ensure his regular school attendance and
00:54being in breach of the six-week suspended sentence imposed in November.

01:18We've been opening at 8am and people have been coming in early doors.
01:22People have been willing to wait for tables outside.
