00:00This is a little boy lamb who was born yesterday afternoon to our pedigree
00:06Clin who she actually has got a name this one they don't all have names but
00:11she does she's called random you. That little lamb and his many brothers and
00:15sisters are the stars of Hadlow College's annual lambing event a week
00:20and long culmination of the students curriculum I spoke with a few of them
00:24and their firm manager to find out more about their hands-on experiences in the
00:29lead-up to the event. I truly love livestock you know I really want to learn
00:34about it and so far Tanya our farm manager she's allowed me to
00:41experience lamb and ewes myself and getting lambs in get some units across the
00:46field so it's just been a really fun time and it's over this last week putting in
00:52the hours I would like to do it again over the course of the years whilst I'm here.
00:57Obviously lambing is a time of year where there's the care of the ewes that we need
01:02to consider and also the lambs that are being born and here at Hadlow we lamb indoors and
01:08it means that the students get involved with things from delivering the lambs to
01:12ensuring the ewes have got the right nutrition looking ringing and tagging the
01:16lambs when they're born and turning them out in the fields and checking that
01:22they're doing well out in the fields with their mums. Getting the opportunity to
01:27for the second year you're left alone a bit more so it's sort of being more
01:33involved about being told what to do sort of picking and choosing your jobs and
01:38making sure everything is done and having the opportunity as well to sort of be like
01:43that that's not okay we gotta do something about that one as well.
01:48This year's lambing weekend is expected to be the biggest yet having the event
01:52expanded across the schools campus and facilities I'm here in the expansion space
01:57now with one of the most exciting additions this year the sheep show it's
02:01about to begin behind me let's take a look
02:15it's great when you come here and you can we've got lots of vendors here we've
02:19got lots of activities bouncy castles from that perspective it's it's a
02:23lovely experience and yeah we very much enjoy it as staff and very happy to give
02:28up our time at the weekends to to oversee. Ronnie Glaston for KMTV
