00:00In the middle of a beach, young Mia watches the sea alone, as if she had a strong connection
00:04with the water. Years later, she has become a teenager and, because of her father Michael's
00:09job, she has moved to another school in a new town. At the end of class, a girl called Sophie
00:14tries to make friends with Mia, but she quickly dismisses her. The girl is more interested in
00:19getting along with the group of popular students, led by Gianna, but none of them pay any attention
00:24to her and they leave. Later, back at home, her mother, Gabriela, asks how the school
00:29day went, but Mia doesn't feel like talking and goes to her room. Even so, Gabriela insists
00:35that she tell her what happened, but the young girl loses patience and pushes her mother out
00:39of bed. At the same time, Mia feels guilty and helps her up, but when Michael returns, he
00:44scolds his daughter for her rebellious attitude. Her parents believe it's because of puberty,
00:49but when night comes, Mia can't sleep and, on impulse, drinks a glass of water mixed with
00:54a lot of salt. The young girl can't explain her sudden craving for salt water and does
00:58her best to prevent her parents from finding out. Afterwards, she goes to her mother's

01:22her to her house, along with her best friends, Vivi and Nelly. Once there, Mia notices that
01:27the relationship between Gianna and her father isn't the best and the girl asks him to look
01:31at her authorization for the trip, which he signs without asking any questions. Gianna
01:36then calls the group into the bedroom and there she challenges them to a game. The idea is for
01:40one to squeeze the other's neck as tightly as possible, long enough to enter a state of
01:45hallucination. Vivi and Nelly don't like the idea, but Gianna insists that Mia do it and
01:50she agrees. As soon as the girl gets enough air, Mia starts pressing on her neck, slowly
01:55increasing the intensity until she almost makes Gianna faint. The girl falls into bed with a pale
02:00face, but as soon as she catches her breath, she says it feels fun. Curious, Mia decides to take the
02:06test, but just as she is about to pass out, the young woman begins to have strange visions at the
02:11bottom of the sea. These visions torment her and, as soon as she regains consciousness, Mia rushes back
02:17home. When she reaches the living room, she hears the sound of water in the aquarium and, in yet
02:22another inexplicable impulse, she grabs and devours one of the fish. As soon as she realizes what she
02:27has just done, Mia feels sick and runs to the bathroom. Shortly afterwards, her mother appears
02:33and asks if her daughter is feeling well, but Mia tries to disguise it and runs towards her room.
02:38Another day passes and, on arriving at school, the young girl meets her friends going shopping at the
02:43mall. The four of them go there and, as they enter one of the stores, Gianna starts stealing
02:48makeup items, without anyone noticing. Vivi and Nelly do the same and, in order to be accepted by
02:53the group, Mia also steals an item and keeps it in her pocket. After that, the four prepare to leave,
02:59but the store security guard sees everything and runs after them. To escape, they split into pairs,
03:06with Gianna and Mia running towards the emergency stairs. After a lot of effort, the two run out of the
03:11mall and onto a highway, where they start shouting at the drivers, celebrating that they've narrowly
03:16escaped. Vivi and Nelly show up soon after and the four of them leave with the items they took from
03:21the store. Hours later, Mia returns home and tries to relax in the bathtub, but she notices something
03:26strange around her toes. Frightened, the girl goes to take a closer look inside the room and notices
03:32that her feet are bigger and her bones are more visible. To make matters worse, her mother calls her
03:37at the door and asks what happened to the fish in the aquarium. In order not to tell the truth,
03:42Mia says that she threw the fish in the toilet for no apparent reason. Her mother asks for an
03:46explanation and, in a fit of rage, slaps her daughter across the face, who locks herself in
03:51her room and cries because she doesn't understand what's happening to her body. Another day passes
03:56and Michael wakes up his daughter, saying he's going to give her a lift to school. Mia is frightened,
04:01believing that her father has seen what is happening to her feet and hides them under the sheet.
04:05However, when she looks at them again, she sees a layer of skin joining her fingers.
04:10This only makes her more nervous and she tries to drop the subject, but on the way to school,
04:15her father asks her why she threw her mother's fish in the toilet. Once again, the girl can't
04:20justify herself, so her father grounded her, forbidding her to go on the trip to Connyland.
04:25Annoyed, Mia gets out of the car, but instead of going to school, she decides to go to a medical
04:30clinic. When she meets the doctor, she asks for a routine checkup because she feels there
04:35is something wrong with her body. She then shows her foot and the doctor reassures her that it is
04:39a special condition, which creates a skin capable of joining the toes. She adds that this syndrome
04:44is something of birth, but Mia claims that the condition appeared the day before. The doctor
04:49then decides to take another look and notices an unusual layer of skin between the girl's feet and
04:53recommends further tests. Mia then goes for a blood test, but notices that the doctor has a suspicious
04:59expression on her face as she talks to someone on the phone. Afraid she's becoming a freak,
05:04Mia removes everything attached to her arm and runs out of the hospital, until she stumbles in the
05:08middle of the sidewalk. The girl cries without understanding what is going on, but soon pulls
05:13herself together and returns home. There, she begins to wonder if this is a family problem, or worse,
05:19if she isn't her parents' legitimate daughter. The confusion in her mind only gets worse when she realizes
05:24that, in the photo albums, there are no pictures of her mother when she was pregnant. Mia then asks
05:29for an explanation, but Gabriela just shrugs it off, saying that the pregnancy photos are elsewhere.
05:35The young girl insists on asking why she doesn't physically resemble her parents, but her mother
05:39tells her to forget it and do her homework. Seeing that she won't get any answers, Mia goes back to her
05:45room and tries to distract herself with her social networks. She ends up finding the profile of an older
05:50guy and, to impress her friends, she arranges to meet him. The next day, she talks it over with
05:55Gianna and, together with Vivi and Nelly, the three of them accompany her to the meeting point.
06:00The place is a hotel and Mia meets the guy in one of the rooms, but he is uncomfortable when he
06:05learns the girl's age. If that wasn't embarrassing enough, he notices strange stains under Mia's socks
06:11and asks if she's hurt. The guy tries to take a closer look, but this only infuriates Mia,
06:16who knocks him down with a shove. Soon after, the girl leaves and, feeling ashamed of the whole
06:21situation, leaves her friends behind and runs towards the mall. Once there, she picks up more
06:26items hidden in another store, such as makeup, absorbent cotton and a pair of scissors. After
06:31that, she returns home and tries to treat the problem on her toes by removing the skin around
06:36them. Despite the intense pain, she puts bandages on to stop the bleeding and covers everything with
06:41her socks. Even so, the girl is still upset about these changes and decides to visit Roberto,
06:47one of her schoolmates, to distract herself. When he sees the girl, he says that he wasn't
06:51expecting her to visit, but Mia is interested in having a moment alone with her colleague.
06:56This is another attempt to impress her friends and the two have their romantic moment, but in the
07:00end Mia is not satisfied. Despite this, her romantic experience causes more changes in the girl who,
07:06at dinnertime, devours an entire piece of meat in front of her parents. Later, the girl meets Roberto
07:12and his friends at a stadium, where they spend the rest of the night dancing and having fun.
07:16At one point, Mia confesses what happened between her and Roberto to her friends.
07:21They confront the boy to find out if it's true and he confirms it, but clarifies that the two are
07:26just friends, with no serious commitment. Mia is disappointed by the answer, but soon puts it
07:31aside and continues to enjoy the evening with her friends. It doesn't take long for the drink to take
07:36effect and Gianna is the first to feel ill, so Mia invites her to sleep over. The girl accepts and
07:41the two go to her apartment, where they find Gabriela asleep in the bedroom, while Michael is
07:46lying on the sofa. Mia reveals that her parents' marriage isn't going well and they're not even
07:50sleeping together in the same room. She also says that she feels like she has been adopted,
07:55because she has nothing in common with her parents and so they can't understand her.
07:59Gianna shares this feeling, because shortly after her divorce, her mother went to the United States
08:04and promised that her daughter would live with her. However, it's been 5 years and the girl feels
08:09abandoned by her mother, forced to live with her father who pays no attention to her. Despite this,
08:14she tries to make up for his absence by being free to do as she pleases. Mia wants to have the same
08:19freedom, but her parents won't allow it and haven't even signed the authorization for her to travel
08:24to Coniland. When she hears this, Gianna takes the letter and forges Michael's signature so that
08:29they can go on the trip together. After spending the night at Mia's house, the young woman meets her
08:33parents, who invite her to Michael's boss' wedding. The girl refuses, saying she'd rather stay at home
08:39and then introduces Gianna to her parents, who don't take too kindly to her behavior. Even so,
08:45they let Mia spend the day with her, without suspecting that the two were planning to sneak
08:49off on the school trip. As soon as the two get on the bus, the teacher picks up the authorization
08:53letters and doesn't notice that Mia's father's signature is a forgery. Thanks to this, the two meet up
08:58with Vivi and Nellie and plan what to do in Coniland. Before the bus leaves, Gianna shows
09:04her friends the forbidden substance she's obtained by mixing it in her bottle of juice and tells them
09:09all to drink it. As expected, the four are totally dazed by the effect of the substance and just watch
09:14the visitors passing through the park. Just then, Mia meets Roberto again and, even though she's a
09:19little dizzy, she calls him over to have another romantic moment. The two of them hide in a storage
09:24room in the park, but the girl starts to feel sick and tells him to get out of there. Confused,
09:29the young man leaves her alone and Mia runs to the bathroom, where she sees more strange things
09:34happening to her body. When she lifts up her shirt, she notices that her belly button has disappeared
09:39and her legs are covered in strange dark spots. Desperate and under the influence of the forbidden
09:43substance, Mia collapses on the floor until her friends find her and try to help her. They see the
09:49stains on her legs, but Mia just disguises it and tells everyone to get back on the bus.
09:53After the trip, the young woman arrives home to find her parents, who already know about
09:58the excursion and demand explanations. Gabriela asks her daughter to communicate, but Michael
10:03has lost patience and tells her he's going to send Mia to therapy. Unable to talk, the
10:08girl just goes to her room and locks herself in, but in the middle of the night, she feels
10:13a strong discomfort in her feet and falls asleep without her clothes on the floor. At dawn, Mia
10:18sees several scales lying on the floor, which are coming off her legs. She quickly hides
10:22them under her bed and puts on a pair of pants so that her colleagues can't see what's happening
10:26to her body. After that, she goes to class, where the teacher asks her to open the body
10:31of a fish to study its organs. Just like in the aquarium at home, the girl feels an impulsive
10:36urge to devour the fish, but restrains herself as much as possible until the end of the lesson.
10:41When everyone leaves the room, Mia can't help herself and starts eating the fish, just as Sophie
10:46is passing by. Seeing the girl, Mia grabs her by the neck and warns her that if she says
10:52that to anyone, she'll regret it. Her colleague runs away frightened and Mia drops everything
10:56on the table, furious that she is acting in such an unusual way. Afterwards, she leaves
11:01the room and meets Roberto, who asks her if she's feeling all right. Apparently, the rumor
11:06about the marks on her legs has spread around the school and the boy is afraid that she has
11:10given him a disease. Mia denies everything and leaves the school, where she finds her
11:15mother waiting for her in the car. From there, she drops her daughter off at therapy and the
11:19psychologist asks Mia to talk about what's bothering her the most. The young woman tries
11:24to explain that strange changes are happening in her body and this frightens her, as she is
11:28afraid of becoming some kind of monster. She also believes that it may be genetic, but that
11:33it comes from her real family, who she suspects abandoned her in childhood. The psychologist
11:37asks her to be more specific, but Mia doesn't want to give any more details and leaves the
11:42session. After that, she calls Gianna to come over to her house, because she's willing to
11:47clear up the story that her parents aren't the real ones. The two take advantage of the
11:51fact that there's no one at home and start looking for any documents proving whether Mia
11:55is adopted or not. During the search, Gianna finds documents written in French and Mia tries
12:00to translate them, but both are surprised by Gabriela. She tells Gianna to leave and asks what
12:06Mia was looking for, with the girl replying that she didn't find any pictures of her
12:10pregnant mother. Gabriela doesn't respond and just scolds her daughter for going through
12:14her things without permission. All this mystery only makes the atmosphere between the family
12:19even more tense, until, on the day of the wedding, Michael and Gabriela once again call their daughter
12:24to come along. Mia again refuses the invitation and, in order not to make matters worse in the
12:29house, they respect her decision and leave her to her own devices in the apartment.
12:33Hours later, Mia tries to distract herself by watching television, but again she feels
12:39a strong urge and devours the new fish in the aquarium without hesitation. Seconds later,
12:44the girl receives a message from Gianna, inviting her to a party at night. The girl readily agrees
12:49to go and there she tries to forget her problems by drinking more than she should. At one point,
12:54Mia overdoes it and falls to the ground, but before she loses consciousness, she sees Gianna
12:59with a friend in the middle of the lake. At however, the girl ends up in the deep end of
13:03the water and starts to drown, so Mia runs and jumps into the lake to save her. Unexpectedly,
13:09the young woman manages to swim with great agility and, as well as rescuing Gianna, she uses a breathing
13:14technique to save her. After that, she brings her friend back to the surface and everyone around is
13:19amazed at how the young woman managed to rescue the girl without difficulty. Gianna tries to thank her
13:24friend, but Mia gets nervous with everyone staring at her and runs back into the house. Inside,
13:30the young woman looks in the mirror and notices that openings similar to the gills of a fish have
13:34appeared on the side of her body. At the same time, the scales are becoming more and more resistant on
13:39her legs, to the point where she can no longer remove them. Minutes later, Gianna also appears on
13:44the scene and, on seeing the girl's leg full of spots, she asks what's wrong and tells her friend to
13:49see a doctor. However, Mia is furious that Gianna has discovered her secret and throws a bottle of
13:55drink at her, telling her to get out of there. The next day, the young woman decides to throw it all
14:00away and goes to another party, where she consumes even more drink and even ignores Gianna. Mia even
14:06starts dancing wildly on the table, which attracts the attention of the party owner. He invites her to
14:11a room, where he wants to introduce the girl to his other friends. When she realizes what's
14:16happening, Gianna rushes to stop her friend from doing something stupid and tells everyone to stay
14:20away from Mia because she's sick. Fearing that it's a contagious disease, the party owner and his
14:25cronies try to see what Mia has and discover that her leg is covered in a dark coating. Everyone is
14:30frightened and Gianna tries to defend Mia, but she runs back home. No longer able to stand the situation,
14:37the girl reaches the edge of despair and, with a knife, she hits her own arm and falls to the ground,
14:42unconscious. The next morning, Mia wakes up on the floor and, to her horror, realizes that her legs
14:48have turned into flippers. It is then revealed that Mia is actually a mermaid, who got lost on
14:53the beach as a child and was found by her adoptive parents. Still in shock at this discovery, the girl
14:58begins to run out of air and jumps into the bathtub, where she turns the taps on full blast.
15:04Soon, the whole house is flooded and she calls Gianna for help. Her friend promptly goes there and
15:09discovers the whole truth about Mia's true identity. However, instead of rejecting her, the young woman
15:15takes her to her truck and the two set off towards the sea, on the outskirts of the city. Arriving at
15:20her destination, Mia asks for Gianna's cell phone and calls her parents, planning to tell them the
15:25whole truth. However, at the last second she gives up and just says that she'll meet them again soon.
15:30Finally, the two friends go to the beach and Gianna asks if the girl is afraid of this change.
15:35For the first time, Mia says no, because now she knows who she really is and where she has to go,
15:40even if she has to give up her previous life. Gianna is sad to have to say goodbye to her best
15:45friend, but Mia comforts her, saying that the two of them will meet one day. Finally, Mia, now a
15:51mermaid, jumps into the water, following her true nature and returning home to the immensity of the
