DPM Gan Kim Yong made a late switch on Nomination Day from Chua Chu Kang to Punggol GRC. On day 2 of campaigning, DPM Gan and the People’s Action Party’s team for Punggol were out and about meeting residents.

00:00I think yesterday we spent a lot of time walking around the estate, meeting people,
00:08going to the shopping malls where there's high traffic.
00:12So my objective really was to meet as many people, residents of Ponggol as possible because
00:19I really want to know them and also let them know about me.
00:22So I had the opportunity to meet many people because we visited various places near the
00:28MRT station, the transport nodes, shopping malls, the food centres so that I can sit
00:34down, talk to them, understand where they live and what are the issues of concern to
00:39them or of interest to them.
00:41So I think I had a good sense.
00:42I think they all want to ensure that this Ponggol is a vibrant town so that we can continue
00:49to add facilities to enhance connectivity and to help them to find more places for them
00:56to have an opportunity for community bonding.
01:01You've seen me just now at the coffee shop and we sat down with some of the residents
01:06to talk to them, where they stay, what do they do and understanding their family, their children
01:10and so on.
01:11So I think this gives me a good sense of the residents in Ponggol.
01:16I think it's an important first step for me.
01:20Ponggol is a very, very beautiful town.
01:22That's something I discovered and I think residents here all enjoyed the corny island,
01:29the waterways and the greenery and there's a lot of greenery.
01:34So I think we do want to create more spaces for the community to be able to come together,
01:38to get to know one another and to bond together as a big family.
01:42So I think that's a very important part.
01:43So connectivity and spaces for community bonding is a very important part of our strategy.
01:51I'm very privileged to be as a member of the PAP candidates for the Ponggol GRC and I do
01:58want to look towards them for their support and their confidence and their trust so that
02:05I can continue to, together with my team, continue to serve them for the next five years and to
02:12implement the plans that we have already put in place and to continue to strengthen our bond
02:16as a big family.
